Ok been watching Match of the Day and watching Ferguson in the stands pulling out a telephone from nowhere whenever something happened to his players or well just in general was hilarious. More entertaining to see him there than on the pitch although I'm pretty sure his ban will end after the next game or two.

Allowing him (and other managers?) to use a phone to communicate with the dugout just makes a ban up to the stands meaningless. What's the point in being suspended from a game when you can still (pun intended) make the calls?

4-0 loss to Stoke, who were worthy winners, we really are in deep trouble.
The Fat Controller  is pulling this once proud club in the muck.

^ Indeed that's why I laughed, there was really no point Ferguson being up there if he had a phone and could still make decisions just seemed odd.

Oh and a premier league player (can't remember the team) attempted a bicycle kick and narrowly missed the goal. Beginning of another trend now perhaps?

That would be Mark Noble in West Ham in their game against Tottenham I think.

They're doing it in the Dutch second division too : www.youtube.com/watch

Let's hope this is the new trend instead of the theatrical skills :)

I thought they weren't allowed to communicate at all. I definately remember instances of that happening. There was talk of appealing the ban but I think once they realised he could still communicate with the bench he just accepted it as it changed nothing.

Haven't seen much of this Sunderland - Liverpool game but the ref seems to be giving EVERYTHING Liverpools way. Its quite unbelievable some of the decisions. Bramble fouled Carroll, plays advantage and Meireles goes through and shoots over the bar. So he calls the play back and gives a freekick despite Liverpool having a chance.

I see Redknapp is making comments about Cappello again, its great how Cappello never reacts he just ignores him in a "Who are you and what have you done in 30 years of management?" kinda way.

Indeed, I'd rather watch players dive for an awesome goal than players diving for a free-kick/penalty these days.

Edit: @Druss "Who are you and what have you done for the past 30 years?" is something I say to the screen whenever Redknapp appears on it. lol

Watching this Chelsea - Man City game and a thought occurs to me. Why don't Chelsea speed up their play by having other players play the ball straight to the other team or booting it into the stands instead of working it to Lampard so he can do it? He is taking sh*t to a whole new level here.

On Ferguson's ban: I do remember that Mourinho was involved in something like that when he took Porto to the Champions League final. He was banned, but it was stricter as he wasn't allowed to communicate with his team. I recall him getting round it by making sneaky mobile calls. He might have been charged for that later but I don't remember. Certainly pointless if communication is allowed. Maybe it's so the ref can't see him near the touchline...

On Redknapp: you think he might go away if people ignored him?

No ones going to ignore him though OBaka as he has so many friends in the press to champion his cause. Even has his son on Sky to talk him up at every chance.

Title race has gotten very interesting again. Only 9 points between first and third with both Chelsea and Arsenal having a game in hand.

Mourinho was once given a touchline ban while at Chelsea, and was allegedly smuggled into the locker room in a laundry basket.

Also, a great result for Chelsea today. I really think we'll win the league.

blacqout: the laundry basket incident was when Mourinho was at Chelsea? I always thought it was Porto. Oh well...hazy memory and all that. But...I thought managers could speak to their players at half time. Getting confused now.

Druss: for some reason I forgot about his son. But then we don't have Sky so I don't have to hear them do the promos for ole 'Arry. I think I'll count that as a blessing.

Jamie Redknapp is on nearly every match on Sky in the studio stating the obvious and declaring things literal "Hes literally gone right through him Richard." or "Its literally exploded off his foot Richard". His grasp of English and tactical insight is on par with a seagull and you can just see the other analysts looking at him like hes an utter ****, which he is. Every chance he gets he is talking up Spurs and Chelsea where his cousin plays.

I give it a week after Matt Jarvis gets his first England cap until he is linked in the papers with United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Spurs and Liverpool.

Jarvis has been good so far... looks like Postman Pat finally picked a player that is on form...

Druss: maybe the Redknapp bloodline is in play there somewhere. Also...I'm sure the amount mentioned for Jarvis will be something silly as well. Oh, also caught that Liverpool 'couldn't score so have a free-kick' incident...yeah, only feeds my conspiracy theory....

Nattfare: How long has it taken Capello to actually do that? He did state he would pick players on their form I recall, and rarely have we seen that to be the case.

This is probably the first time capello picks a player based on form, not sure he will actually play though.

I remain convinced that England managers are forced to pick certain players either from player power or pressure from the FA/Sponsors. Its the only reason I can think of that they insist on trying to shoehorn Lampard and Gerrard into the same team.

True, everyone exept for the managers realised a long time ago that Gerrard and Lampard doesn't work together, must be more into that.

I wouldnt pick any of the current players over 28 years old....

Call it ageism.....I see it more as you had you chance...you were ****...no ****** off out of my dressing room :P

Put all the kids in, whether they are good enough now or not, only way they will gel and work as a unit....few years time...they play with each blindfolded....

Lets play pick you England team :wizard:

I'd go with...
GK: Hart

RB: Richards
CB: Ferdinand
CB: King (or Dawson if unfit, I'd actually go for one of Birminghams CB's but I can't tell them apart)
LB: Baines (I acknowledge Cole is a better player but come on)

CM: Wilshere
CM: Parker
LW: Young
RW: Lennon

CF: Rooney
CF: Bent

Lacks a bit of creativity in the middle but I suppose Rooney and Young could supply that. Also a fit Owen Hargreaves would be in ahead of Parker.

Bench:
Foster
Jagielka
Lescott
Rodwell
Milner
Adam Johnson
Carroll

That's not a bad selection there, Druss. Wouldn't really pick too many holes with that.

King is an awesome player I think, but it's a rotten shame he has that long term knee problem though and can't play intensively. Can remember him marking Henry out of the game many a year ago.... For practical reasons alone I would find it difficult to give him a place in the squad; his World Cup campaign certainly didn't do much to aid his claim. Shame that. (Hm...armchair Football Manager....)

If you put out eleven cones on the pitch they would probably play better than England have done over the recent years.

I have seen someone being tackled successfully by a bin in a park once...

Actually, just read Blatter's re-elect me stuff. Can't see him mentioning anything about corruption at the top levels of FIFA, but does seem to make a big case of zero tolerance in pretty much other aspects.

Not bad Druss indeed....

Mirror OBaka with King though, gifted but too much of a liability imo. Agree with Baines ahead of Cole, Cole may be better, but he can't defend, and goes awol too often at the wrong end of the pitch.

Parker a must I think, but I've been saying that for years. Would also personally lose Rodwell in place of an extra forward....Defoe maybe...or Crouch?

Maybe biased (as on loan at Norwich) but may also include Lansbury....he certianly one for the future (especially if he can slot in to Arsenal's midfield with Wilshire)...but perhaps he a little too young right now, but then in my view, we should be playing all the 19-23 year olds personally....get em used toe ach other at real internation football (not under 23's etc)....

So we may get battered a few times, so what....builds character...they be all the better for it in a few years. Already got my money on Germany for the Euro's and next WC if they continue with the squad they used last year.

To be fair Natt, England didn't do badly under Eriksson, most teams would have been happy enough with how they did in tournaments. But the media whipped themselves into a frenzy and wouldn't settle for anything less than their brave boys conquering those cheating foreigners and bringing football home where it belongs. Top level football in England is run by the media and it needs a strong FA to stand up and say no.

I only went for King because he is easily the best English CB in the game. I included him in spite of the injuries, if everyone was fully fit kinda thing. Though I probably should have squeezed Hargreaves in under those circumstances as a fully fit Hargreaves is easily Englands best midfielder as he has shown before.

I have only seen highlights of Lansbury and he did indeed look impressive, included Rodwell because of his versatility and I was tempted with another striker but don't consider any of them good enough, was tempted with Kevin Davis for sh*ts and giggles. Joey Barton is a player I could see squeezing into the team too on current form, for some reason I find him less reprehensible than Gerrard, Terry, Cole, Ferdinand, Carragher and Rooney.

England will never prosper with the inability to move from the 4-4-2 formation, it'll just be more of the same haemorrhaging possession, get some goal-scoring pacey wingers (Theo+ Adam Johnson) in a 4-2-3-1 formation, playing off and around Rooney or Carroll with Wilshere as one of the two deeper midfielders keeping the play ticking over.
