I think we can deride Liverpool for allegedly paying Joe Cole £100k a week and Jovanovic £120k a week. Also for believing that this will be their year. As per usual.
I saw the Tevez headline yesterday but I didn't have it in me to read it. Closer to his family or more money again was it?

by the way, that champions league final was something else. barca right now are on another level really. no doubt they have talented players, but they are 2-3 moves ahead, looking where to move, where to receive the ball/pass the ball, always, and i mean always, in support of the man with the ball. guardiola has truly taken total football to the next level, i have no doubt this is the future to football (fellow managers, there is work to be done
it looks like the women's world cup will be televised over here, but its on a channel that aren't good at sports. (its hard to take them seriously when they talk to the audience like we have A.D.D. and there is a constantly scrolling ticker on the bottom of the screen) if its bearable, will give match thoughts

F365 made an excellent point today about Liverpools £20m chase for Jordan Henderson. If it was Hodgson trying to sign an unproven player that they don't really need for that price then they would be up in arms....again.
I also just saw the interview with Tevez on Argentinian TV where he complains about Manchester and the lack of things to do because theres no good restaraunts and he can't go to the cinema because he doesn't speak the language. If your on £260k+ a week then surely you can shut your whinging mouth and buy a restaurant, also if you have been in the country what 4 years? 1 at West Ham, 2 with us and is it 1 or 2 with City? Surely you would have learned the language by now. I'd get a temp ban if I truly described how much he disgusts me. He also turned up with his daughters on this chat show like he hasn't already beaten that horse to death.

As for Henderson...still to read that article, but I would guess they would have to back Dalglish otherwise the fans will probably be trying to force the owners out again. Then we'll have all those videos on YouTube how the club is such-and-such. I get the feeling if a club isn't spending ridiculous amounts of money then somehow it's all the owner/board/manager/nextdoor's cat's fault; and that clubs should follow Leeds' business model when they were still in the Premier League. Goodness forbid that some common sense should prevail.
Oh...and Martin Jol as Fulham's manager. Wasn't expecting that. Never could see why Tottenham sacked him in the first place.

It wasn't really an article on Henderson, it was more of an observation in the middle of one of the gossip columns I think. Why are they continually linked with central midfielders? Its the one position they seem to be stockpiled in. Bloody papers and their lack of logic.
I was wondering why Jol was on tv. I thought they just felt like showing him for a while. Spurs sacking him was ridiculous and left them in a right mess, now look at them. Out of the Champions League while paying for a Champions League squad and a joke of a manager who is going to jump ship at the first chance he gets.

What move does he want though? I hope they stick him in the reserves and force him to live the rest of his days in dreary Manchester City.
Fixed...a litte bit
Apparently Chelsea have been 'advised' to try and sign Wesley Sjneider by a certain Mr Hiddink, not sure if that's an ultimateum of sorts for Hiddink to join them or not. And apparently it seems United no longer want him anymore perhaps?

I saw that one this morning Sparroww, I bet he ends up staying at Inter. With Rooney playing deeper now he plays in almost the same position anyway I think. Though I haven't seen enough of Snjeider, maybe he can play in the heart of the midfield too. I think Modric would be perfect for us....and Hulk, but mostly because he is called Hulk.

hmmm, henderson, well liverpool don't really need more midfielders, i only saw them once, but how are they on their back line? suarez was also looking like a good signing.
tevez..hehe, maybe he has greener grass syndrome?! i am not fitting into the lifestyle, i miss my family...but he doesn't seem to want to play for boca either. interesting indeed. he does score goals though, which can't be beat.
and how about that giggs?! he did his brother dirty he did. well, i think i am switching his role to berbatov. you have to remember, hernandez is a good kid, and still impressionable. when players are young, they need encouragement and someone who is going to instil confidence and belief. if i were hernandez, i would go bother and annoy berba
edit: forgot to add this, but what is also nice about women's football (and you can include rugby and aussie rules football) is the lack of attention seeking athletes. perhaps that is due to lack of media coverage and because the focus on their stage isn't as bright, it doesn't give rise to that sort of behavior. whatever the reasons may be, it is really nice not to have that. i think its similar to what you guys were saying about balotelli. (though i still admire his sheer lack of not caring whatever he does

There was a story a couple of days ago alleging that Balotelli is connected with the Mafia. His agent dismisses it of course so we don't know the truth, but it adds to his rather colourful life.
I read somewhere that it would cost £100m to get Tevez and wages will have to be £250, 000 a week. Barcelona and Real would have to stump up that amount for him (implying they are interested). Oddly, why would Barcelona want Tevez. A side built on smooth passing football buying a player who often loses it? Don't we all love press speculation....
Liverpool's backline needs some reinforcement I think, especially with footballer-turned-wrestler (or is that sports entertainer?) Carragher getting on a bit. And Suarez does indeed look a good player. Selling an out-of-sorts Torres was the best bit of business Liverpool have done in many a year methinks.

That reminds me of all the stories about Andrei Kanchelskis and problems with the Russian Mafia.
Tevez is allegedly already on more than that so you can bet he will be asking for a pay rise too. I wish an injury upon him.
Liverpool have a rightback that can't defend, one leftback who was hounded out of the club by the "fans", one who can't stay fit for more than 15 minutes, a centreback who is even more injury prone, an elderly liability at centreback and a centreback who seems to do the square root of f*ck all. Combined with a bunch of kids and that Greek guy. So obviously agreeing a £20m deal for an unproven central midfielder is a fantastic idea. If he wasn't English how much would he be worth? £4m or £5m? Torres on his day is still better than Suarez and Carroll combined.
Seems we keep getting linked with centrebacks to be the longterm successor to Ferdinand, are the papers forgetting we have Smalling and Evans? We need atleast one but preferrably two central midfielders and a winger.
As for rugby players I can't stand them, I've known a few and they have all sickened me to my core with their ways.
Edit: It seems we have signed Phil Jones and he is currently having a medical at Old Trafford. Not entirely sure why we need another centreback but I'm lead to believe he can also play as a holding midfielder. Time will tell I suppose. £16m seems a bit steep, just like Henderson if he wasn't English what would he be worth?

Torres on his day is a fantastic player. Unfortunately I don't think many people can remember when that was...
Evans and Smallings need a bit more game time methinks, though I think Evans has been suitably impressive when he has played. Has there been any rumblings about Vidic leaving? I recall something a couple of years ago but nothing came of it. Mind you, there have been seasons for Man Utd where they lost practically all their central defenders to injury, so perhaps an insurance policy if you will.
EDIT: Benitez with a 'show me the money' request with regards to the Villa job. Hm... I have to wonder 'why?'

Torres scored against the US last week. Maybe its a return to form for him, mind you it was only the US. Not Germany or anyone.
Evans was great a couple of seasons ago, he went through a bad patch last season but was back to his best towards the end of the season. I keep hearing United fans demanding he be sold despite the fact he is still only about 23 and suffered one bad spell, other than that he has been excellent. He is still developing and has shown promise.
Apparently Sunderland have offered £12m for Brown, Gibson and another player. £12m seems like a low figure for 3 players, though it depends on the third player I suppose.
Why is it every time someone makes a signing Redknapp turns up on SSN talking about how Spurs tried to sign him too?
Whats this Benitez thing? I just heard Villa have been in contact with him.
Also why is the Prime Minister sticking his nose into football? Whats FIFA got to do with him? Whats football got to do with him? He should stick to rugby and other posh sports.

ahh, obaka beat me to it, but druss, torres doesn't have any more of those days left. i didn't see that match, but just you wait, suarez is on the up, torres is on the down. ditto the move of selling torres, they really got a good deal on that.
barcelona signed, or are signing, alexi ramirez from udinese. very good player and a good kid (saw an interview). lets hope he flourishes out there, but where does he fit in though? he is honestly good enough to start on any other squad. they said apparently they would not pursue rossi from villareal. i have seen him play in la liga and for italia, let me tell you, he has a great touch. also, guardiola was said to be interested in vidic this summer. not a surprise, he played well in the final.
its good to see espn over there aren't so bad. now if they only adopted that philosophy over here.
not a dig at benitez, but why would villa sign him? villa don't have my resume, yet. lol don't worry guys, you are all being brought on board.
right...time to look up some of these defenders you guys mentioned.

I'm willing to bet Torres out scores Suarez next season. Form is temporary, class is permanent. If Chelsea get a creative midfielder to supply him then Torres will return to form.
Do you mean Alexis Sanchez or is there a Ramirez too Modjo? I heard they were after Sanchez but Udinese's president is claiming everyone is after him.
ESPN don't have Jamie Redknapp so its always a bonus. They are good for the American sports too getting feeds from US channels.
Benitez has apparently turned down Villa. I assume they couldn't offer him the money to spend that he demands.

my bad druss, it is alexis sanchez. (i got him confused with a baseball player on the white sox over here). good player, lets hope he adjusts well.
thats not too bad then. right now the nba finals and stanley cup finals are in full force, and of course baseball is in full swing. i think baseball commentaries (only the local though) are great because sometimes the commentators will talk about all sorts of random things. (baseball can be slow at times) this is harry caray who loved the drink, and they say he would even get drunk during the games, but im not 100% on that. in case they don't it in the uk, ****** jack is just caramel popcorn that comes with a small prize in it. http://bit.ly/uIh22
ok, digression aside, i will take you up on that bet druss! how about betting one whole pound? i'm already thinking of how to spend it this time next yearDruss99 wrote...

well, villa just dodged one to be honest.
dear mr. villa chairman,
i see that you are looking for a new manager. i would like to take this opportunity to offer my services to the club. i guarantee that i will have a steep learning curve, but that we will not be relegated. as per salary, hmmmm, whats sir alex getting paid these days?

Will also expect to see Carragher and Terry trying to outwrestle the players they are up against as well.
Given Benitez's performance at Liverpool I am surprised he was even considered for the Villa job. Man City's financial clout might be more his suiting, but then the whole financial fair play thing will mess things up for them. Read on Ceefax that they spend over 100% of their turnover or something on wages. They will desperately need to increase their revenue or cut wages.
And...boy, Norwich have been busy with transfers it would seem.

Also apparently quite a few other Arsenal players are saying they'll leave if the likes of Fabregas and Nasri also leave the club (in one of the papers I read, desribed as a falling house of cards effect) though tbh I don't think they'll miss the likes of Bendtner, Denilsson etc.
Unless Wigan have plans to find a new manager that will not only help them survive relegation next year but also get them winning more games and possibly get better results in league cup tourneys then I can't see Martinez leaving. Perhaps they'd want a fair bit of money in the sale to help the club who knows, but yeah at the moment he's at even money favourite to be new Villa manager.

Barca don't seem to have the money to sign Fabregas so he might be staying again. Nasri on the other hand has made noises about leaving and joining us which would be a signing that inspires me, I might even do a painting or write a poem. This could be the year Wenger finally spends. Alot of teams will be spending big ahead of the rules coming in next year I reckon.
Dave Whelan said he won't stand in the way of Martinez leaving though I don't see why he would want to go to Villa, it looks like a club on a downward spiral. They just lost one of the best keepers in the league and now their star player is going. They seem to be lacking in cash too thats why O'Neill quit.

As for other transfer shenanigans....you know, I get the feeling the English premium might be tied in with the player quota thing as well. It's a possible explanation for why clubs are buying English more than they did.
It seems that Martinez is staying at Wigan as well. Can't say it's often you see a transfer target being granted permission and turning down the move. Move failing to go through due to negotiations failing yes, but denial is few and far between (hazy memory in operation).
O'Shea is one of those players who can be described as a faithful servant of the club. Steady, but not spectacular. Probably a fair definition of a squad player.
#2123
Posté 10 juin 2011 - 01:08
I think your half right on the quota's OBaka but there has always been a bit of a premium on English players who seem half decent.
Not too surprising Martinez turned Villa down, seriously why would anyone want the job who isn't currently unemployed? It has disaster written allover it.
O'Shea was spectacular when he first came through but seems to have lost it. Alot of United fans call for him to be sold but you can't have a superstar in every position and another 7 of them on the bench. You need players like O'Shea who will step in and get the job done no matter where you ask him to play. I don't think he has ever let the club down and I wouldn't want him to leave.
Seems United have agreed terms with Ashley Young and made a bid for Samir Nasri while Liverpool have made one for Clichy. Interesting times at Arsenal, Liverpool and United.

Martinez to Villa isn't really much of a step up. It wouldn't really allow him to do anything particularly different it would seem. More of a sidestep. Whelan also seems to know how to handle footballing affairs which is good too. Other chairmen probably would have sacked Martinez for the shambolic displays they have had against Chelsea last season (I think).
As for the superstar thing with respect to O'Shea, I believe Mourinho managed to do something along those lines when he first went to Chelsea and the money was flowing, or at least very close to that ideal. Thing is, a real player wouldn't want to sit on the bench.
Young to Man Utd. Hm...makes me wonder if there is something about certain transfer rumours. A while back I recall something about Nani....
EDIT: the English premium. Yeah, that's true as well, Druss. Just thinking it will be pushed more because of impending regulations as well.

Whelan seems to be loyal to his managers atleast. He was the same with Steve Bruce I recall.
Aye but you need to have more money than sense to do it. Mourinho got lucky arriving when he did and leaving when he did. As per usual.
Whats this about Nani? I don't recall seeing any rumours.
