Actually, looks like Norwich have got De Laet on loan from Man Utd. Should be interesting. At least I don't have to feel ambivalent about it.

But then this is football....maybe there is a clause (we wouldn't be told anyway would we).....maybe an option to get him in Jan or something?
See how he does first....but he was MoM when we played Pompey last season to actually gain promotion...good signing....even if it is only a season long loan.

i forgot to mention, but copo de oro is being played right now as well. they are in semi finals right now, and its mexico v honduras and usa v panama tomorrow. it will probably be mexico and the u.s. in the final, but whoever wins that one is a toss up for me.
the women's world cup starts on sunday, and copa america on the first of the month. by the way, how is norwich looking in the confidence, motivation, and self esteem department? ...cause i'm available lol

Seems Chelsea have got that Vilas Boa fella for £13m, SSN are already getting ready to dry hump him when its officially anounced.
Barca's attemps to sign Fabregas get better every day. First his value has decreased and they won't even offer £35m, now he is doing everything in his power to leave. Well everything except you know handing in a transfer request. If I was Arsenal I'd be reporting them on a daily basis for the constant comments about a player they aren't willing to pay for.
If you went to tesco and told them you wanted to buy a turkey but wouldn't pay even half the price and turned up every day making various comments about the turkey like how it wants to be put in your oven where it belongs you'd get called a mentalist and barred. Barca are no different.

Which reminds me of the shambles that is the FIFA Ethics Committee. Really? He resigned and so he is presumed innocent despite the evidence to the contrary?
I think Lambert's job is safe, modjo. Hm...looks like the Birmingham job has been filled as well....

Porto's last season manager is now in Chelsea. So Chelsea will be able to beat Barcelona, because of strong players and young manager!
When Messi, Xavi and Iniesta are in the team (together), no one can stop Barcelona.

Unfortunately nothing will be done about it because of Barcelona's status in Europe.

I found the whole FIFA thing to be rather brilliant. It just showed how corrupt the whole thing really is, how much more evidence is actually required? Everyone knows its corrupt to the core but it seems everyone is happy with it.
Ashley Young is having his United medical today, I'm still uninspired. I wanted some sort of foreign fancy dan who would be brilliant but constantly linked with a move to Real Madrid.
What do you English types make of the whole Olympics debacle? Announcing that they had an agreement without actually talking to the FA's opposing it was a ballsy move. I think they should just play with an English team and be done with it. Who in the other 3 teams would even get in anyway? Plus are they forgetting whats been going on in Scotland all season? Any Scottish or Northern Irish players playing for GB is taking their life in their hands.

Managers, stadiums and players in Scotland having bullets and bombs sent to them because of religion and sectarianism. Playing for a GB team would likely just fuel the fire.Garbage Master wrote...

The whole British Olympic thing: reading what was on the news I have to say that I read it differently to what the other FAs are understanding. I see it that there has been an agreement with the English FA to put out a GB team at the Olympics. Seeing that Scotland once represented GB I can't see why England can't do that. Of course the other FAs are taking it as the English FA as saying yes on all their behalves, which would be wrong of course. Wiggle room for interpretation as far as I'm concerned. Mind you, if the sectarianism is truly that bad...I wonder whether players themselves will want to represent their own nation in future yet alone be part of a GB team.

We'll see it in December when they face Santos! Assuming Santos won't play on "high heels" like Internacional did last year against Muzembe, Mazebra, whatever was that team name!

@modjo: ah...OK. I thought you had more lofty inspirations; nothing wrong with that. Might even be an inspired move.

The way they gave out the news on SSN the olympics commitee were saying that they had reached an agreement with all the FA's. For all the assurances from FIFA that it won't affect them having seperate teams can they be trusted? There would be players willing to play no doubt but I think they are asking for trouble. I don't think there should be any football in the olympics, its another tournament in an already overly packed schedule.
Ashley Young has signed for United....

Well, you have another player in the squad, Druss. Perhaps not the most inspiring of signings *cough* but perhaps it is a 'buy British' sort of mentality going on.
Be interesting to see what players other teams get in now.

Celtic's manager, Neil Lennon and other high profile supporters have had live bombs sent to their homes and to the stadium. The manager was also attacked during a match, and it has been chaos.

It seems alot of shopping in the lower leagues is going on, transfer window really hasn't started to get going yet.
I saw the new Norwich shirt going on sale today on SSN, the fans they interviewed all seemed to be very optimistic(and strangely large headed). I hope they are setting high expectations then turning their backs if things don't go to plan right away, its not going to be easy. Seems to be the trend these days.

I'm under no illusion that it's going to be 'easy'. The local news had a piece that essentially states that we'll be fine. We'll find out at the end of the season I think and not before. I'm sure there's something about chickens to be mentioned....
Ferguson must be keeping his central midfield plans close to his chest, because the attention seems to be with the backline more.

Its possible theres just no one good enough that he wants to sign and that we can afford for the centre of midfield. Seems all the best players are linked with clubs with more money too and I don't think we want to get into a bidding war.

As for Man Utd's midfield that is a good point. Though I do wonder what sort of player you would need more. Personally I would favour a good old tackling defensive midfielder; I don't think Man Utd have had one in years. Though maybe the thought is that the whole team pressurizes the opposition making that role a bit less important (not sure on that actually).
