I think we need both a defensive and a creative midfielder. Fletcher is great at closing players down but he doesn't so much sit infront of the defence as he goes allover the pitch, personally I think he is our best midfielder by a distance, didn't have his best season though. Carrick sits infront of the defence and generally does a good job, he was fantastic in the two legs against Chelsea but I think he lacks bite against better opposition and can disapear too often. We really lack creativity in there unless Anderson finally starts to fulfil his potential on a more regular basis.
On a different sport related note what the hell is wrong with that Maria Sharipova woman? She sounds like a seagull in distress.

I would rephrase the question, and give the answer at the same time.
Whats the ONLY good thing about football?. The cheerleaders ofc !.

Watching that MLS game reminded me of the 94 World Cup. I only found out last night they are showing MLS here along with live Russian Premier League matches on ESPN. The womens World Cup is on Eurosport for anyone interested. Did anyone hear about the two sisters who pulled out of the tournament after being accused of being men?
Those long range strikes remind me of that guy Ivanov I think his name was, crazed looking Bulgarian guy who played against United a few times in the CL and used to shoot from freekicks inside his own half. My mate took him as a bit of a hero and used to shoot with his goalkicks.
Anyone remember the guy from the Irish league who got nominated for FIFA goal of the year last year with this goal...
Well he was at it again it seems...
I don't think he meant it...
I quite liked this video too, its just a goal compilation. I think my favourites are George Best's goal and Almeda's freekick. I find it odd that Beckhams goal and Lampards first got into the compilation but neither of Yeboah's attempts to smash the underside of the crossbar got in.

Nice compilation, but the selection is somewhat odd. No way this one from Grafite () could be left out of it.

Agreed Merci theres some strange choices. That was a ******. But I thought Yeboah's goal against Liverpool would have made it...

Mind is working in a funny way today...well...odder than usual anyway. Just read this about Fabregas not going to AC Milan, and that Galliano states that Fabregas will be elsewhere. I would also like to state that Fabregas shall not be joining Norwich during the summer transfer window.
Like I 'said' mind is working funny today....

I'd like to follow suit and state that Fabregas won't be going to United either.
SSN are getting very excited Barca have apparently upped their bid to £35m and Man City are close to signing Nasri for £20m and Clichy for £7m. Its all happening.

Indeed. To Arsenal it seems as well. Might actually force Wenger to make something close to a wholesale change to the squad.

According to SSN Norwich have just signed Bradley Johnson from Leeds. Seems like the transfer window is gathering pace.

Aye Druss, we're in July now so I'll gather that there's quite a bit more twists and turns to come. Especially with the Arsenal situation.

Americans...
The Copa America kicks off tonight with Argentina - Bolivia, looking forward to when Brazil play to see if this Neymar fella is worth the hype. Hopefully its better than the womans world cup has been.

great goal kimo. that camera angle is also nice because you get to see all of the balls flight to goal. very nice
well, the international tournaments are well under way now. the women's wc is now in the knock out stage, copa america is getting juicy (though there is a noticeable drop in quality for some reason), and the sub 17s final is sunday, with Uruguay and Mexico in the final.
i havent been able to watch every match of copa america, but i have seen all but 2 or 3. well, the heavyweights have not played at the same level we saw them a year ago, but there is still plenty of football to be played. argentina have drawed both their matches now. i didn't get to see their second match, but against bolivia all they needed was that one extra touch to set them up for goal.
brazil brought a squad full of young guys, and it kind of showed a little bit. you know how pato is young but plays on milan, which is a team with quite a few veteren, confident, and experienced players? well, it absolutely shows, and it has rubbed off on him. he played out there with such confidence, such creative idea, he knows what he is doing. druss, i know you said you were going to watch neymar as well, im curious to get your opinion. feel free to disagree, but i really liked what i saw. i don't really know how to explain it in english, but he plays very upbeat. its kind of like you are watching him play at the local park, not a major tournament, and its an absolute joy to watch. i have no doubt its in no small part due to him playing for santos. i will be watching the brasilerao this year!
however, as a team, it doesnt seem they have clear leaders out there, any role models who want to step it up to the role. in fact, though pato is young, he shows good confidence. remember, just becasue you are super talented does not make you a leader, its your personality and the hard work you put in (it shows).
and chile chile, chile! they played open and the match was not boring in the least. however, i do not have as much to say on chile-mexico cause i was more just watching it to enjoy it then watching it to study it. more thoughts on different tournaments in the upcoming days.

to add a little bit more, i just saw the highlights for bolivia and costa rica. just from the highlights, you can tell costa rica played with pure heart out there. costa rica are a team that are not as consistent as i wish they were, but when they are on form, they can play with the big boys. bolivia is also easy to underestimate, but believe me, they are tough to beat. do check out the highlights if you get a chance.

Ah...playing with heart. The moment they move to one of Europe's big clubs I can almost see that side of his game disappearing. Well...I suppose it depends which club he ends up at.

yeah, thats so true obaka. he is still young, so i hope santos hold onto him till the world cup. i have a feeling its a couple of factors that do it. he is playing in his own league, so he is playing at home, and there isn't nearly as much pressure on him as there would be if he went to a big club over in europe, where you know the expectations placed on him will be lofty.
right now he is playing care free, and a move to europe would bring its own challenges, but for the moment at least, (hopefully) its still a whiles away. and hey, santos said they were adamant about hanging on to him.

I haven't seen much of the Copa America, that womans world cup was almost enough to put me off watching anything. From what I've heard of Neymar he is a bit of a prat off the pitch and has a questionable attitude, could be another Robinho/Ronaldinho case. Theres also alot of players that look good in Brazil and playing against international teams that aren't that good but who just don't cut it in Europe. Like Denilson.

The feeling I get concerning south American clubs is that it doesn't take a great deal of money to buy their players. The transfer fees don't seem to be close to the crazy levels we see in Europe, so it seems to be the case that the players seem cheap by comparison.
Often you'll hear of young up and coming players with their managers unwilling to let them go as they need to play a bit more at their current level; the thought is they would become better players (assuming it isn't a bargaining tool). Leaving for a big club without regular football would likely stall their development. Not sure how many are successful in actually keeping their players though.
Come to think of it, Arsenal will have a battle to keep theirs it would seem.
