You nailed it one! Everton it is.

Wait until you see Paddy McCourts second goal for NI tonight on youtube tomorrow. Absolute ****** it was.

Whoops. That ended a lot quicker than anticipated.

Seems like a few games have been called off due to the riots. Ecclestone mentioned that to postpone the games would be a sign of weakness or something similar. Not sure if that's entirely correct though I see why that's a possible stance on the issue.

What games are off? The only one I've seen so far is Spurs - Everton.

Seems theres alot of deals close to being done too, Enrique to the scum, Dann to Arsenal, Fabregas to the club that can do no wrong ever, Nasri to City, Tuncay to Bolton. Think theres a few more.

The closer we are to the end of the transfer window I expect more deals to be done.

Only Everton-Tottenham is confirmed off at the time of writing. Reading earlier this morning it seemed more were due to be postponed.

I was waiting on more being called off but it doesn't seem to be happening. Cheltenham - Swindon is off though. PL seems to be ok now.

Paddy McCourts goal last night. He wasn't that good when he played with us...

How did you get that from my comment? lol.

Thank god the Fabregas saga is over. Barca might shut the f*ck up now. Though its unlikely.

SSN showed their list of best PL goals since it started and I had to question it. Beckham from the halfway line is in there yet no Yeboah against Liverpool or Cantona against Sunderland. I'll never get the big deal about that Beckham goal, all he did was see the keeper off his line and punt it down the middle. There was no skill involved. If I remember correctly David Batty did the same thing the very next week against the same team. Yet he isn't Beckham so no fanfare. They also have a poll on who will be top scorer. Curiously leaving out last seasons top scorer.

Anyone else find the whole Tevez thing now hilarious? No one wants him and its all his own fault. His big whiney mouth and wage demands may leave him stuck in the last place he wants to be, playing second fiddle to Aguero.

Should we do season predictions before the big kick off?

Tis not for you to reason why
it is that my mind's reasoning goes awry.

*Cough*

Well, if anybody who deals with transfers is thinking straight and considers Tevez, then it is unlikely that he will be signed by them. He's been stating how much he misses his family since what feels like forever. If (and it is indeed a big if) he is sincere in that, then unless the club is close to his family then the prospective new club will have the same problem. A European club may be able to afford him, but any move to such a club utterly defeats the statement concerning his family. As such any non-South American club considering him would be rather foolish, unless they think they can persuade him otherwise (which doesn't involve money) it seems pointless. Tevez is indeed rather foolish to constantly whine about missing his family and moving fairly often (only to be further away from said family).

In summary: indeed, it is all Tevez's own fault for putting off possible suitors. (Sounds like a match making thing....)

Season predictions? Why not?

Prediction 1: after a couple of injuries 'Arry Redknapp will state they are down to the barebones.

Prediction 2: Arsenal start well but again stutter towards the end of the season and ends up trophyless.

Its not just the moaning about his family, its moaning that he doesn't like football and wants to retire soon, moaning about falling out with executives (something about Gary Cooke at City and Uniteds board not inviting him to tea) despite not speaking the same language as the board, moaning about the city, moaning that the sun is too yellow over here and he prefers the red sun of Krypton. I find it amazing he has kids as he is an ugly unpleasant wee sh*te, but then I remember he is rich and famous.

It seems Barca have been mouthing off again and annoying Arsenal by saying they have signed Fabregas when they haven't. They really are a disgusting self important bunch of tossers, them and Real Madrid really deserve each other.

I'm in a lovely mood today.

My predictions are:

'Arry to be down to the bare bones before they even play their first match, he will also require more signings which he will bleat bout repeatedly until febuary no matter how many players they sign. He will also refuse to talk about another teams player but go on to state how he is a great player and he would love to sign him but his club won't sell so its pointless to talk about. Poor 'Arry, he will "subtely" hint he should be England manager too.

Andy Carroll to be injured by October. Liverpools fans giving up on this year and declaring next year to be their year from November.

Arsenal to sign a 9 year old winger with a dodgy injury record to replace Fabregas and Nasri.

Chelsea to win via questionable refereeing. Villas Boas to be sacked no matter what happens.

Steve Kean to admit he isn't really a manager and is infact the local butcher.

A United player to be banned for something that several other players have gotten away with during the season.

Everton having to play their womans team because of yet another big injury crisis. Tony Hibbert will be fit but dropped.

Newcastle to quietly go about their business and finish comfortably mid-table with no scandals or madness.

Frank Lampard to score with a deflected shot that was clearly going wide then celebrate like he just won the world cup.

Anfield to be declared a danger zone with Adams and Gerrard on the same pitch pinging passes and shots into the crowd on a regular basis.

Nigel De Jong to get away with literally murdering someone on the pitch.

No one will notice Fulham or Wigan until someone wants to buy Rodellega. Then we will all remember Wigan exist but Fulham will remain unnoticed.

One more to add to your list, Big Mick criticizing his players for playing too clean and not absolutely destroying the opposite players, whilst eying up the camera.

Also a rare Ebanks-Blake chant between now and the end of the season.

On Fabregas: it just looks like Barcelona are just messing about now.

On Tevez: you think anyone can persuade the rest of the squad to all stand around him, point their fingers at him and snigger uncontrollably?

I can't see Abramovich doing the sensible thing and giving his manager the time to get the team in shape as they require. I do expect Villas-Boas to be sacked though as you state.

Still couldn't really believe that Steve Kean was given the job, whether Alladyce had his team play attractive football or not.

Oh...commentators to say something along the lines of 'Norwich have found the recipe for success' when they win a game.

Oh you gave me an idea for another... Swansea to be this seasons Blackpool. With people fawning over the "small club" as they battle their way to relegation.

It must be great in City's dressing room. A barrel of laughs with Tevez, Ballotelli, Bellamy, Adebayor, De Jong and I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting someone.

Did you hear the latest on Fabregas? I snorted my Sukie out my nose when I saw it on the tv. Guardiola wants the deal delayed to next week because of all the press comotion. The press comotion that Barca themselves are the only ones feeding and generating... I've grown to utterly despise Barca almost as much as Real Madrid. What world do they live in?

The only reason I can think Steve Kean got the job is because he is another yes man like Pardew. I think Blackburn could very well go down this year, I was surprised they stayed up after sacking Allardyce. Kean or Warnock to be the first sacked I reckon. Though Warnock because his bosses seem to be kind of retarded and no fault of his own.

Yeah, read that about Fabregas/Barcelona. Wonder if Arsenal will try and have something pushed through. Doubt it, but it would just add to all the commotion.

When Allardyce got the sack he seemed to suggest that there were certain...machinations that got him removed. Not sure who he had in mind, but it did seem he was pointing to a member of the backroom staff more than anything at the time. Always made me wonder if Kean had something to do with it.

Hm...wonder what the manager sacking odds are this time around. Who else might be a potential candidate for a sacking? It feels like this season there might be less of a managerial merry-go-round for some reason.

On an aside, it would be interesting to see how long Dalglish stays in the helm at Liverpool; and the fans reaction when things aren't going well.

I thought my commotions looked wrong. Mind you its looking wrong with two m's aswell. Barca are building it up as an excuse incase Real beat them on Sunday. There would be no commotion if they had shut up about it, but they seem incapable of doing that. I hope he flops big time. I'd laugh hard after the way they have behaved.

I got the same impression about Allardyce's sacking but I thought I must have been reading too much into it given that he never mentioned it again. I assumed he was referring to Kean. Definately adds an interesting twist to things, theres something about Kean that I don't trust. Why appoint him? He has little to no management experience and its not like he is a big name to attract players. Him and the situation in general strike me as peculiar, I assume he is a yes man.

I think the bookies have Warnock as favourite and Kean is 11/4. Haven't had an indepth look yet as I'm low on cash and it would tempt me to put money on someone.

Liverpool will find someone else to blame, my money is on Hodgson.

Ah yes, another fabled 'el clasico' or however it's spelt (can't be bothered to check).

I think we can concoct some interesting theories about Allardyce's sacking by Blackburn. Along the butcher line you mentioned earlier about Kean maybe he was chosen because he knew more about poultry. Considering all the news about the owners' intentions at the time, Kean was a very strange appointment. As a caretaker it seems understandable, but not as your 'permanent' manager after a few weeks or something. Definitely fishy. (Actually, perhaps he was a fishmonger at some point. He has that sort of look as well.)

As for the yes-men in the league...I wonder what would happen if they started to grow a spine...hm....

Ah yes...'we blame the previous administration'.

Getting closer to kickoff and I have an excuse to watch TV again. Here's hoping for a good start at Wigan. Natt's Newcastle have the late kick-off, and your (and Sparroww's) team play on Sunday.

Aye I can see him as a fishmonger too. He may have got the coaching job originally because he was Big Sam's favourite butcher. He doesn't even look like he owns his own butchers, he looks like he works on the meat counter in Tesco or ASDA and gets upset if you don't describe him as a butcher. Did you see the video of the Blackburn squad advertising Venky's chicken? It was....odd. Not quite as bizarre as Morten Gamst Pedersen and John Arne Riise advertising shoplifting or something though.

The big signings they touted I think where just a smokescreen to deflect questions about appointing the butcher.

What other yes men are there? I'd say Redknapp is one when Levi has him in private but as soon as a camera gets near him his lack of a spine takes over and he balls's the whole thing up by blaming everyone but himself.

It doesn't feel like opening weekend, mostly because its pissing down. Tomorrow will certainly be interesting, alot of big questions to be asked and possibly answered.

In regards to managerial sackings, I agree that Kean's spell might come to a swift end before the end of this year. He just doesn't feel like the sort of guy you can rely on for results especially seeing as Blackburn are probably going to be in another relegation battle this season.

After watching an El Clasico from January this year (I think) and the Champion's League semi-final atrocity I can pretty much say that I'm not interested in watching either of those two teams play anymore.

Aye the weekend is upon us and football is gracing my screen once again, thanks to a new Sky subscription. TV is worth watching again as OBaka has pointed out.

You get Sky, Sparrow? Lucky. I still rely on the BBC for my fix of footy action.

Blackburn players advertising Venky's? Hm...not an easy thing to find but having found it it is a touch...odd. If their owners weren't involved in chicken but Pukka Pies or something....well...we'd know who ate all the pies.

The first batch of results are in and I am quite pleased that we got off to a non-losing start to the season. As for 'them'....

Just watching the Arsenal match and theres mystifying referee decisions already. Song had a clear stamp on Barton, fair enough the ref missed it. But then Gervinho dived and Barton charged in and pulled him up by the shirt grabbing and screaming in his face, it stopped just short of an actual assault, Gervinho slapped him and Barton went down like he was shot, Taylor then claimed elbow despite it happening behind him and theres no way he could see it. Gervinho sent off and Barton booked. Druss confused.

QPR got what they deserved for refusing to back their manager and arsing about with selling their best player. Not sure what to make of the other results yet.

Generally the lack of backing the manager seems to be an indication of the manager's potential longevity in the role. Probably expect them to start splashing some cash after they sack Warnock and get someone else in.

Dodgy reffing already? This will be a long hard season then for all involved....

Seeing QPR get thrashed on their first game was quite the sight, out of the three promoted they've not made that many new signings have they so that game should serve as a reality check if they want to stay up this year.

Newcastle/Arsenal was a bit atrocious, not really sure who was worse in that game; Song for stamping his foot, or Barton ready to murder Gervinho from that supposed dive.

Watching MOTD now and quite impressed by the Wolves/Blackburn game to a point. Druss how do you feel about the return of sexy football? ;)

And at least Norwich didn't lose today OBaka, eh?

If they were going to sack Warnock they should have done it looooooong before now. Unless they want to wait until the window is over so they don't have to give the new manager any money either.

I got so bored of that Newcastle match that I wound up putting Football Manager on during the first half. On the first day of the season too, both teams should be kicked out of the league for that.

I've MOTD recorded and haven't started watching yet, was busy insisting on running 11 miles on a cross trainer with pretty much one leg. I'll have to get candles, lotions, oils and some romantic music like Steel Panther ready for when the Wolves match comes on.

Nerves for tomorrow Sparrow?

I'll be honest I thought today was one of the dullest openings to the PL, tomorrow's games might change my mind though.

I sense a form of arrogance coming from the QPR, not just because they were the Championship winners but also because they never got the points deduction and the lack of any noteworthy signings and the fact that Warnock believes he'll be with his club throughout the season. I'm not sure but they're a team that just don't impress me in any way shape or form.

Gonna go out on a limb again and say they have a better chance of being relegated over Norwich and Swansea.

And Big Mick made me smile (not in that way) after his team's match, his antics are more memorable than the match itself.

Nerves? Narh not really, West Brom aren't a team that strikes any semblance of fear in me (well unless they put on really crap matches) and after the Community Shield United should be on a roll heading into the game.

Also remembered the Liverpool/Sunderland game, main highlight was Larsson's goal for Sunderland and Suarez sky-rocketing his penalty kick. I bet that miss put doubt back in the minds of Kop fans.

God knows whats going on at QPR, I suppose time will tell. I'd put my three to go down as them, Swansea and probably Blackburn. Wouldn't be that surprised to see Villa go down either though. I kinda cheated and sneaked a fourth in there.

Admit it, Big Mick made you smile THAT way and every other way you can think of.

I've seen us make sloppy starts to the season before, WBA aren't that bad a team and I fear we might think them a push over after beating City. Its happened to us before. Looking forward to the match at any rate.

Nah the doubt doesn't register with Liverpool fans for a good month or so. Unless Hodgson is incharge then the doubt registers before the first match, curious bunch. Science should study them but I wouldn't want to inflict that on a scientist.

I'm the same in that I'm also looking forward to the match, however I can now see WBA throw everything at us in the game effectively trying to spoil the party so to speak.

Yes Druss, Big Mick makes us smile in all ways possible the proof is here.

We shouldn't let anyone experiment on Liverpool, might cause another deadly outbreak.

A match that looked even more despicable than the Newcastle/Arsenal game today was Leeds/Middlesborough; highlight of the match was 3 red cards and you'll be pleased to hear that the match ended Boro 1, Scummy Leeds 0.
