I'm wondering about the discussion meself. As far as I'm aware there was never any discussion about which is better.

You have a point about the riots there, Druss. Seeing that players here have to pay higher taxes, which is partly why Spain is a more attractive option I hear, plus the oft cited bad weather and night life it's a wonder any foreign player comes here.

Saw the blurb about the el clasico. Three red cards I think it was, and Mourinho in hot water. Again. Does the Spanish FA come down on them when something like this happens? The FA has acted on the Newcastle/Arsenal game, and given just how often Barcelona and Real seem to get into these situations....

I'm even more confused because that guy only just signed up. Cocaine is a hell of a drug I suppose.

I just saw the incident on Sky, Mourinho went up behind a guy(obviously he wouldn't go face to face) and rammed his thumb/finger into the guys eye. He then tried to walk away before the guy turned around but got a slap on the back of the head. Before turning with a smug grin as if to say "Your on camera and caught." I should start a petition to have him banned from football, he brings nothing but the ugly side of the game.

How large a file on Mourinho could be made containing all his bad antics? Might be able to kill a cow with it?

Read about Everton's financial situation? Not overly surprised as they have been running on a tight budget for quite a few years now, and Kenwright has been trying to get new investment for the club for quite a while now I think. Probably another team that will suffer this season. Given the limitations on Moyes I do think he has performed a remarkable job there.

No one seems to ever mention that the year he won the league with Porto they were found to be match fixing. Sh*t doesn't seem to stick to him. Was it him or maybe Benitez who once claimed to have a dossier on someones wrong doing? Someone had a dossier and they even used the word dossier in a sentence. Maybe it was Wenger, bah head injuries are finally returning to haunt me.

I saw on SSN about Everton not having any money at all to spend because of the situation with the banks. They are in dire need with Cahill and company not getting any younger, they can't generate cash and need a new stadium that they can't afford to build. Unless they somehow make the CL then they will be in trouble in the next few years. Moyes has done a fantastic job and I think sooner or later he will get a chance at a team with a bit of money. Everton are arguably a bigger team than Man City or Chelsea but find themselves unable to compete, its a strange game is football.

In one of the articles, though in truth it might have been the comments section (but still made sense), it was mentioned that long gone are the days where the local millionaire could buy their club and spur it onto new heights. Certainly Sky (the money from TV revenue in general) has a part to play with the finances and especially foreign investment it would seem too.

I admire the job Moyes has done at Everton, and it would be a shame to see the club fail due to factors other than that on the pitch. But as you say, unless they can get that extra money then it looks like Everton will be in dire straits soon.

Maybe it was Sir Alex who had a dossier on Wenger...

A millionaire wouldn't even be able to compete these days. You would need atleast a couple of hundred million available for the team alone. Which rules me out for a start. How long before a player can afford to buy a team?

Will 'Arry use Modric given all the apparent transfer shenanigans. Has his head been turned? Oh...the drama. And what ever happened to the whole if we sell so-and-so then we're not a big club thing? (Though I'm sure someone will suggest that Tottenham aren't a big club.)

Being a Canuck I'm not near the quality of fan as others on there but seeing hilites of Mesi's two goals in that last game makes it clear why he has been the player of the year. What a player.

Messi is the best player in the world by quite a distance. Anyone who argues and says its Ronaldo is quite frankly an idiot and probably hysterical, your best to slap them just incase.

Only a slap?

Messi has a certain majesty when he plays. Though like many great players whenever I seem to catch their matches they seem to be having an off day for some strange reason, and as a result I tend to have the remark of 'even my grandma could do better! And she's deadd!' on the tip of my tongue.

Weekend coming up and that means more footy action. This will be an interesting one especially since Arsenal are at home to Liverpool with Arsenal's current transfers and Liverpool having strengthened...let's see how that plays out.

Seeing that Tottenham have won their Europa League match I am wondering what ole 'Arry's stance on that competition will be this season. Is he going to throw it away like when he first took over to concentrate on the league, or will he have a good go at it?I think they'll need Champions League football if they want to attract the talent to propel them forward.

Also be interesting to see how Stoke's season fares with a bit of European action as well. When Fulham were in it the other year their league campaign suffered a bit.

A slap and a reminder that any player who can't be trusted to play in his own position, who has a negative effect on other players in the team and does nothing to help the team when they don't have the ball is about as far from being the best player in the world as Steve Guttenberg is from an oscar.

I'm looking forward to that one tomorrow morning, should be interesting. Which means boring 0-0.

I reckon 'Arry will want to stay in the Europa League as long as possible, simply because its a convenient excuse for doing badly in the league making buck passing easier. Did you see the bit in yesterdays Mediawatch on F365 about him? classic Redknapp.

Is Europe ready for Stoke?

Vidic is out for a month along with Ferdinand now. I wasn't worried at all when it was just an aging crocked defender who I never rated much anyway, but now we have lost arguably the best player in the league too. Evans is back on form but I worry about the new lad Jones and the new keeper. I think we play Chelsea soon too. Nervous times.

Might well be a 0-0 but I am hoping for some goals. Last weekend we had way too many draws.

Stoke in Europe: always been intrigued how the more illustrious teams in Europe would deal with a Delap long throw.

I think it was mentioned that Man Utd, with their injury list, will probably have to field one of the--if not the--youngest back line. That would make many a fan nervous as some of those potentially fielded haven't been at the club long. All under the age of 22 (?) I think it was mentioned. At least it will build character.

They're going to have nightmares about Stoke's tactics and Delap's throws afterwards I think.

I've just realised I can't name any other Stoke midfielder. Do they have other midfielders or is it Delap and a team of centrebacks? Etherington? Is he still there?

Evra is supposed to be fit so he will bump the age of the back four up abit. I heard the plan was to be Evra, Evans, Jones and Smalling. Seems a bit risky, I'd rather start Evra, Evans, Smalling and Fabio. Two actual fullbacks and two centrebacks who have played together.

Ok time to own up, who put the curse on Arsenal?

They lost Koscielny after 13 minutes to back spasms, one minute he was running with the ball, the next he could barely walk. So they had to send on another teenager that had never played in the PL before. Frimpong sent off in the second half, he deserved to go it was an awful challenge.

It was still a nothing game, Liverpool didn't look like scoring. Carroll was completely and utterly dominated by Vermalen. Then a through ball to an off-side Suarez, play allowed to go on and the young lad who came on for Koscielny intercepts and tries to clear, the ball hits Ramsey and lobs the keeper into the net.

You couldn't write it.

Awful result for Arsenal and despite Liverpoop having most of the ball in the match they never really looked that great to be honest.

I don't get the Caroll hype, why is he so special? All I saw him do was fall over a lot and **** at the ref a fair bit.

I think with Ferdinand and Vidic out for a bit, it'll give guys like Smalling, Jones, Evans etc a chance to step up in their roles especially for Monday's game. I think they'll do alright just give them time to develop, same for De Gea too.

Carroll is probably still trying to work his way out of Vermalen's pocket. I never understood the hype at all. He is like a slightly less sh*t Heskey.

Giving them experience is one thing Sparrow, playing them against Chelsea is something else. Evans is experienced enough despite his age. Its the other two I have slight worries about given their lack of relative experience. Its not so much playing them, its playing without Vidic that makes me nervous.

And yet Heskey actually scored today, funny how stuff like that happens.

I maybe sounding somewhat optimistic, but I'm not all that worried about our defence at all. Of course I'm saying this whilst having a drunk a few and that we have Spurs and Arsenal coming up in the next week which shouldn't be underestimated at all.

Chelsea though may well give us problems in the future of course.

Heskey: the traditional choice for the old fashioned centre forward. Scoring?!? Must have slipped into another reality; think I'd better check me lottery ticket.....

Eagerly awaiting highlights, i.e., MOTD, so will comment later. Having seen most of the results though it's going to be an even tougher season for Arsenal than I would have thought.

Natt, pleased to have beaten Sunderland I take it?

Hm...Norwich play their first home game against Stoke tomorrow. Here's hoping for a result; well...a good result in Norwich's favour.

Hhmm I mention Tara Reid and she pops up on the tv, I mention Heskey and he scores. Berbatov...hattrick!

I'm not sure if good results are really a great thing for Newcastle before the window closes. It might convince Ashley and his cabal that the lack of investment is working.

Very pleased with beating Sunderland. But less pleased with how poorly Newcastle played.

Right now it doesn't look like it will be great season for Arsenal.
Liverpool doesn't look that interesting despite their expensive signings... but £55 mill for Carroll and Henderson? Come on, Dalglish was out of his mind with those two.

Swansea tried to pass and trick their way through Wigan yesterday. With short and fast players like Dyer, Sinclair, Routledge and Britton. Think they will suffer from scoring few goals however... Graham was great in the Championship, but the PL will be a bigger step.
Wigan also had two shots in the woodwork and a penalty saved by Vorm... they can count themselves unfortunate.

Always good to get one over on your local rivals (oh how I laughed finding out Ipswich lost 7-1 to Peterborough; OK, there was a couple of sending offs but they were already beaten by then), though Druss has a point. Because if Ashley is as much of a....'spoilsport' it might not be good news.

Having caught up with the highlights it did look like the Arsenal-Liverpool match was heading to a 0-0 until the sending off. Frimpong looks to be that sort of midfield spoiler, though with yesterday's match I'm wondering if he has enough discipline to stay on the field.

Wigan were a bit unlucky with their shots; Swansea did pretty well though I think. Whether their players can step up is something I am wary of Norwich's ability to do so as well. Would be interesting to see whether Grant Holt can step up his game again (be funny if he can).

Eagerly, and nervously, awaiting the Norwich-Stoke match.

I watched the Peterborough-Ipswich in between watching the Chelsea game, loved how they showed the Ipswich first win of the season then swiftly showed them getting thrashed the week before (Southampton was it?) and talking about making a comeback only to lose 7-1. Ouch!

West Ham-Leeds is also on now, the hammers are another team that could do with a win to give them more momentum having been relegated.

EDIT: Having just typed that West Ham got a nice goal from a corner, 1-0 as of now. I've a feeling Leeds will have their work cut out for them today.

Norwich-Stoke is over. Can't say I'm too disappointed (again awaiting highlights), though managing a draw isn't too bad with 10 men. Shame we couldn't hang on for the win. And de Laet scores again. If he keeps up that sort of form I wonder how his first team chances will be back at Man Utd.

Wolves are going well too. 2-0 up against Fulham at the time of writing. Wonder if Big Mick has had to send his team out with the intention of breaking some legs....
