From what I saw of the Man City match today Aguero was kinda woeful. I wonder if there will be another kneejerk reaction tomorrow like the one he got after coming on against Swansea. He missed a couple of sitters. The kind of sitters that if a United player or Torres missed the papers would be allover them.
Are Ipswich being added to the list of teams to be laughed at this season?

Ipswich will always be a team on my to laugh at list whenever I have the opportunity. Oddly, the expected automatic promotion teams aren't doing that well in the Championship.
Aguero certainly didn't hit the heights of his debut, and they were sitters. One of those 'my grandma could do better' moments. Let's see how his play is at the end of the season.
Having seen the incident that reduced Norwich to 10 men I have to admit I remain somewhat unconvinced about the judgement myself. In all it seemed like a poor decision. Certainly wasn't in the box hence not a penalty; and it was by no means certain that Barnett even fouled Walters. It looked like Walters stretched his leg across Barnett to get the ball, and due to that they clashed; Walters goes down. Very dodgy. (As were the decisions in Norwich's favour when we played Wigan last week so I guess it sort of worked out....)
Man Utd against Tottenham tonight. Ole 'Arry has started the excuses with the obvious one of Modric's head not being right to start things off.

You have to love 'Arry's pre-emptive excuses. Wonder if he will get away with it when he is England manager, I hope they finally crucify him for the talentless clown he is. Sounds like Modric is gone then, Chelsea have agreed a deal for Mata too. Kinda wish we were in for him.
Haven't seen the Norwich highlights yet but I'm increasingly surprised by the decision to loan out De Laet especially given that now Brown and O'Shea are gone we are down to 2 leftbacks at the club and playing Smalling as rightback cover. I'd have thought De Laet would have taken up the O'Shea mantle.

I would surmise that Ferguson thought that de Laet could do with some regular playing time, and that chances would have been somewhat limited with the squad he had at his disposal before the injuries. He played as centre-back for the last match, and scored the goal as well; his first in a competitive game for Norwich and he had scored in a friendly beforehand as well. If he can find those spaces he could be one of those defenders who does well at set pieces.
'Arry as England manager. Possible excuses...well, can't have a player being turned by another country's team unless they're a youth team player and have dual nationality. I suppose he could complain about how the league prevents him from having the players for a significant length of time, and that we need a winter break (a common occurrence for England managers of late it seems). Oh...and complaining that the players have to play so many games in a season.

Maybe he could do with playing time but we could do with cover at fullback. Although I forgot that Jonny Evans actually plays leftback for Northern Ireland.
'Arry is probably working on his excuses already. Watching him tonight turned my stomach, he is so animated when his players do anything wrong like he is trying to highlight that its not his fault guv. He probably stinks of onions too.
Strange game tonight. It had 0-0 allover it until Welbeck scored, then United went up a gear and opened Spurs up time and time again. Welbeck had done absolutely nothing until he scored, then he became the best player on the pitch until he got subbed. MUTV phone in everyone is praising Jones and seeming to forget Evans was excellent tonight too. De Gea is going to give me a heart attack before the end of the season. Another excellent Anderson performance.

De Gea fluff another save I take it, Druss?
Wonder whether Welbeck will get a decent run of games. And if he does it then brings up the question of how much of a squad player is Berbatov. Ferguson said he isn't for sale, but would Berbatov be content in such a role?
Still, seemingly all-in-all a decent result. A 3-0 win over Tottenham at Old Trafford. Might just remind everyone that Man Utd is around seeing that Man City seems to have caught most of the attention of late.

He spilled a couple of shots awkwardly, never seemed fully in control of his rebounds. Came out for a cross at one point and fluffed it. Dribbled past Van Der Vaart in the box and got fouled, dunno what to make of that one. His distribution is excellent and I think he will be grand when he settles in.
Berbatov is in his 30s so I reckon he might be ok with not playing all the time aslong as he is played enough to keep him happy. Hernandez came on tonight too, looked off the pace which is to be expected.
I saw the Norwich red card. It was....strange. Looked harsh to me, it was just all very awkward.

The Norwich red card was strange, because at the least the placement was wrong for a penalty. To me it wasn't even clear that Barnett made the initial contact. Though I suppose we have the video replay to view whereas the ref wouldn't; still doesn't answer the question of just where was the linesman in all of this....
Hadn't thought about that about Berbatov actually. I suppose it will then depend on what sort of games he does get selected for. It seemed that at some times last season he didn't make the bench for some of the bigger games (if memory serves). I recall one criticism of Ronaldo was that he went missing in the big games, but against smaller teams he demolishes them. Perhaps Ferguson might see Berbatov performing in this demolition role where he has just that bit more time and space to tear teams apart.
Also nice to see that Levy and 'Arry are on the same page. *Cough*
EDIT: typo.

It didn't show anything other than a close up of the tackle on the replay I saw. They didn't even say where it took place and I couldn't see where on the pitch it was. It just looked like an awkward tangle of legs to me.
Seems people are getting carried away with Welbeck and Cleverley again, ignoring the opening hour where they were kinda crap. Cleverley wasn't too bad but Welbeck was like a headless chicken and kept giving the ball away until he scored. He was fantastic after that but people need perspective. He was woeful last week too.
Whats this about Levy and 'Arry? Is it the Modric thing? Am I the only one who sees what 'Arry is up to? Trying to set it up so that if Modric goes its not his fault its Levy's but if he stays then its all because of 'Arry. His recent comments have been setting the scene perfectly. Levy must be getting fed up with him, he must see it.
Nasri is on his way for a medical at City. What kind of team are Arsenal going to have against us on Sunday?

Well, Levy came out (but not in that way) and said that Modric isn't for sale. 'Arry on the other hand seems to suggest that Modric could leave. Of course, ole 'Arry's machinations are in effect so he can weasle out of any unsavoury conclusion to the current saga. It also remains to be seen how professional Modric is if he remains at Tottenham. This is also true of Carlos "When I finish my contract I will not return to Manchester ever - not even on holiday" Tevez.
Also, the English premium doesn't seem to be limited to just transfer fees. English players also get more praise, not because they are deserving of the praise but likely to be a 'goodness gracious me, he can do that?' sort of reaction. Our real expectations are so low that anything resembling 'good' then gets magnified out of proportion, and suddenly we have a new footballing god who will bring back the World Cup when he plays. Only when our new footballing god actually does play in a big tournament they get exposed by actually good players, and suddenly our 'sure win' trophy is lost. Not too pessimistic....

You've made me think of a new subject. English players who were genuinely World class...
Is Tevez still captain? I give it until September 15th before he declares his love for City. To be forgotten in December when he wants a transfer again. Inbetween there will be various statements you know the form...daughters...unhappy...Manchester is hell on earth...a board member has upset him...Mancini doesn't love him as much as he should...doesn't want to be a footballer...the usual.
Speaking of Tevez I saw him on SSN last week walking out of Man City's training ground with some other foreign looking lad. What was odd about it was that he was wearing a grey hoody that didn't seem to be City or Argentina paraphenalia yet it still had in giant letters "Tevez" written across the front. Who wears random hoodies with their name on them? It seems a strange act to me.
Sochaux have reported Newcastle for tapping up. If they are punished and Barca aren't then theres truly no justice at all in football.
An observation from F365's mailbox yesterday that had me nodding in agreement. If Andy Carroll was 6 inches shorter he would be on the dole.

Blimey, that new subject sounds like a tough one. During the last decade or so I can't really think of many. From what I read though the only player who can really be thought of as world class in recent times was Scholes in his prime.
Haven't really noticed who's wearing the captain's armband at Man City. I don't recall any announcement, and it would be odd if Tevez remained captain. However, it wouldn't surprise me if he still was....
Perhaps it's a form of ID in case he forgets who he is, or someone found him lost in the street. Come to think of it...I suspect Balotelli could probably do with something like that.
You know, is it even thinkable that Barcelona should be treated like any other club? Mind you, if Newcastle are found guilty then in future cases against the mighty Barcelona I'm sure the other club's lawyers can point to Newcastle as one of those 'setting a precedent' cases.
*Heh* That's all I have on Carroll.
Looks like Nasri is gone then. Even without Fabregas it might have been fine with Nasri playing there, but with him gone as well....and with Arsenal's persistent injury problems...the future does not bode well for them.

Aye Scholes is all I got too. Gazza, Linekar, Charlton? Were they really that good or more English media hype? Shearer maybe? Le Tissier? Its a minefield.
Something is making me think Kompany has been wearing the armband, but I may just be thinking he should be wearing it and convincing myself.
Has anyone actually been charged with tapping up before? I can't remember any.
The interviews with Wenger make it look even worse its like he doesn't realise theres a problem with them leaving. He had money to spend and bought a teenager from league 1. I think if he doesn't sign anyone else then that says everything.
The ultimate in hypocrisy, a hypocrite calling others hypocrites...
http://www.football3...rom-Mourinho...
I hope he keeps this up. It will be one of the most undignified sackings in the history of football and will hopefully rule him out of ever taking over at United.

Hm...I think going back a bit to the last century I'm sure a case could be made for Gazza. Shearer might have a case, though I never understood how he got away with so many elbows... Now Le Tissier is probably a tough call; never really got to play (and before my interest in footy took off).
Don't think so; not to my (dodgy) recollection. Plus, probably too much vested interest from the parties involved to really push through a case. Agents wield too much power it seems. (Kuyt's agent saying he should consider Inter's offer when Liverpool haven't accepted a bid. I don't think he's close to being a free agent yet; though I could be wrong.)
Worrying times for Arsenal fans. Mate of mine has probably started to support Man Utd. (He's one-a-them glory hunter types.) Also wondering if Wenger thinks he can emulate Ferguson when he won the league with a 'bunch of kids'. Maybe we need Alan Hanson reiterating that line about not winning anything with kids on MOTD a bit more so Wenger actually understands why that tends to be the case. Which manager said that Wenger has become one of them (a nutter) since he's been here a while. For some reason I keep thinking it's 'Arry.
Ah yes, more Mourinho antics......
Just noticed the Carling Cup results. Norwich being dumped out of it really doesn't surprise me. Can't remember the last time Norwich had a cup run in anything (except maybe the cafeteria).

Le Tissier was one of the most brilliant and lazy players I've ever seen. He singlehandedly kept Southampton in the league for years. Shearer is an odd one, he done it at international level but never the champions league. Elbowing and kicking people in the face he got away with. Whats the criteria?
Kuyt signed a new contract a couple of months ago apparently. When players and agents collide. I think Def Leppard had a song about that...
The only manager I remember slagging Wenger was Mourinho calling him a voyeur when he made comments about Chelsea. What a lovely man Mourinho was even back then. I think Wenger constantly sees the future and doesn't focus on now. I think he needs Liam Neeson in his Qui Gonn Jinn gear to have a word with him about not focusing on the future to the detriment of the present.
I didn't realise the Carling Cup was even on. Theres nothing on F365 that I saw and there was no games on Sky.

I remember the Mourinho stuff calling Wenger a voyeur, my mate kept showing me parodies of stuff like that thinking he was funny even though I kept telling him that Mourinho is a pure t**t and that Mourinho would stop being relevant soon, geez how wrong was I?
Carling Cup had quite a few matches tonight and more tomorrow. A few shockers in QPR, Swansea, Norwich and Sunderland getting beat by lower league teams especially the Canaries losing 0-4 to MK Dons, ouch!
Tempted to do a cheeky bet and have Exeter to beat Liverpool, would give me a great laugh and make my wallet a little happier which is always a good combination.
And Wenger should certainly get some new players brought in for the sake of their season, surprised the chairman(s) haven't maybe stepped in to say something yet.

Was going to do Exeter 1-0 at 18/1 but I think that's just for 90 minutes, if it goes to extra time I might be screwed.
Still tempted though.

Usually is just for the 90 minutes. That seems like a low price to me considering you have the score predicted and all. How the mighty Liverpool have fallen, where is your God now Jimmy Tarbuck?!
Norwich getting beat 4-0 is a surprising scoreline but going out isn't too surprising. Survival will be the main goal as we see almost every season in these cups. I dunno why the FA even make the promoted teams enter it anymore.

Yeah it can work both ways to be honest, league cup draws have shown to produce some upsets though so it could be something to do with that, will see how I feel tomorrow morning though.
I don't blame some people not being arsed about their team dropping out of cup games, would rather they focus 100% on the league and either getting that top ten finish or just fending off relegation for another year. I mean you just have to point to Birmingham City this year to get that example.

Norwich's last decent cup run was decades ago, or so I was told. More recently they tend to be knocked out immediately. As a Norwich supporter I am not really surprised about being out (I've come to expect it), and 11 changes to the team (i.e. a different team) played the match. As you 'say' Sparrow, the league is more important. Not sure how we'll fare against Chelsea though......
Given Arsenal's track record of late I'd be surprised if they win a trophy. Wenger really needs some experience in there to complement his young players. Oh...and this is what I had in mind.
