Hm...perhaps I'm getting the tackles mixed up; I do recall one of them was a leg breaker.

*Cough*

Given his injuries, yeah, Hargreaves would fit straight in with no problems. More seriously, I wonder if Wenger ever considered Scott Parker. As a laugh, Wenger really should have followed his remark regarding Joey Barton and got him on a free. At least he'll be a problem for the opposition rather than his own team-mates. Wait a minute.....

Shame that we had a bank holiday yesterday then.... But I can see the rumours and reports going crazy though. Probably have a ticker on or something to follow it (if only we had SkySports News on Freeview still). I know Wenger said he would spend £40m on the right player, but I really don't see him doing that to be honest. Has he ever spent more than £20m on a player?

I suppose the international break sort of allows the whole transfer thing to settle down a bit now, though it does sort of prevent the much needed time to gel.

I dunno what to make of Scott Parker, is he actually that good or is it just that he was the only stand out English player last year?

I think Wengers biggest buy was Arshavin at £16m but don't quote me on that.

I had to laugh at todays Mediawatch on F365 the comments about Levy not giving 'Arry money to spend.

Can't you watch SSN on the sky sports website? I thought you could.

I've always thought of Parker as a pretty solid player. Seems to do better at the smaller teams as it were, but at Chelsea he was played out of position. He could certainly do a job for Arsenal in the centre of midfield though it's a moot point now by the looks of things.

In recent memory Arshavin probably is his biggest purchase. I think Wiltord cost £12m at the time which is extravagent for Wenger.

I can imagine 'Arry outside of Levy's office, cap in hand, saying "quid for a cuppa, guv". (One of those strange days for me.)

Hm...had a check to see if I could see SkySports News, but couldn't find anything. I'll just rely on the site for info.

Amused at the (non) transfer sagas of some players, especially Tevez. Let us all partake in a ritualistic laughing ceremony at this individual after the window shuts and he's still at Man City.

I think Reyes was up around £15m too but I'm again not sure.

I look forward to the Tevez laughter.

I always thought SSN was available online for free, dunno where I got that notion. Its Jim White time!!

With all the Arteta to Arsenal talk I put £10 on him to leave Everton. Moments later Arsenal pulled out of the talks. Bastards. I'm hoping Spurs go in for him now, go on 'Arry you know another midfielder that you don't need makes sense.

Knowing 'Arry I'm sure he'd be tempted.

Very surprised to read that Hargreaves has joined Man City. I guess they can afford the basic wage and then appearance type structure. But still, it's enough for me to invoke his name: Gordon Bennett!

I think 'Arry is actually physically incapable of driving past a camera without stopping to talk to it.

It seems the Arteta deal is back on after he dropped his wages demands. Come on ya Spanish git, go to Arsenal, don't make Druss choose between buying NHL 12 and going on a date(that sounded alot less pathetic before I typed it). I think he would actually be a good signing for Arsenal. I wonder if these signings will turn all the doom and gloom from Arsenal fans around. Have they won back Garbage Masters heart?

Hargreaves is a strange one, I wish him all the best but I can't see him getting on for City and I'm not convinced about his fitness. Surely Sir Alex would have kept him on if he had any sort of faith in him.

Newcastle have been in a desperate need of a replacement for Carroll in nine months now and yet they fail to bring anyone in during that time... will see Macheda on loan I reckon...

Hogging the attention is 'Arry. I guess at times like this I'm glad I don't get to see it. Guess there's an upside in not having direct access to SkySports News.

Arteta is a nifty player. To think there were calls to get him to play for England, only for there to be a rule to forbid it. I think he'd be a good fit into that midfield role left rather emptily by Fabregas (and the other players when they're crocked, though I'd expect Arteta to start given his experience).

Hargreaves is a strange one. I'm of the mind that though I believe that Ferguson believes in Hargreaves' quality and what he can bring to the team, his injuries means the wage he gets is unviable for Man Utd. From what I read it seems most offers would have been a pay-as-you-play contract. Understandably it might not be the most attractive option for players. Had it been a lesser player (so to 'speak') I don't think they'd have much choice.

A choice of date or NHL 12. That's a tough one....

EDIT: *Bargh* Typed too slow again. Well...seeing how Newcastle aren't doing too badly at the moment, Natt, it does seem that Ashley has kept the cheque-book in the safe. Just as was feared on your behalf, and predicted by Druss.

Theres now word that the Arteta deal could fall through again. I wouldn't mind seeing him at United he is a good player but terrible injury record this last couple of years. Arsenal...injuries...

How long before Craig Bellamy is being touted as the best striker in the country? He just signed for Liverpool. 11.30pm Raul Meireles hands in a transfer request hhmmm.

Hargreaves offered to play for United for free but they said no. It wouldn't have been right making him play for free.

Newcastle had tried to hijack the Fulham deal for Bryan Ruiz they matched the £10.5m bid and offered bigger wages but he went to Fulham instead. Which I suppose is nice turning down bigger wages to stick to his word. I thought Newcastle had already agreed to take Macheda on loan, dunno what happened to that.

I think Bendtner will do well at Sunderland.

Although SSN said earlier that they have a £35m bid in for some German midfielder Goetze or something. Struggling to believe that one.

German news reported some time ago that Dortmund declined a €40m bid for Mario Götze. He is indeed, far and above, the best talent we had in decades - of course he's dubbed the german Messi over here. However, he's 19, give him some time, and let's see where he's then.

That said, I'd like to see more germans in the Premier League, so they get some more media coverage here. (Obviously the Primera Division get's lot of attention here, with Özil and Khedira playing at Real.) Arsenal got Per Mertesacker, so that's a start. And it looks like they can use a decent defender.

Best, Ameobi, Ba and Løvenkrands. That's right Premier League defenders, you can all tremble with fear now.

So what is everyone's thoughts on the summer signings this season?

*Gets off the floor*

Anyway...I think it has been the usual sort of thing really. The teams who knew who/what they wanted acted quickly; then we have those who had to do the deadline deals though it felt less frantic this time (not suggesting that it wasn't, but maybe that's because my team didn't do any deals).

Almost felt that Everton would be losing most of their players at times. Certainly didn't look particularly rosy for them. Actually not sure if things will go pear-shaped for them from here on out.

A couple of "wha?" type moves.

Unsure of Levy's stance regarding transfer policy regarding a player whose 'head isn't right'. Financially it's understandable, but will have to see if it's the right thing for the team and especially whether it affects the dressing room.

Done out of a move by his own giant mouth. He can't even get in the City team with Aguero and Dzeko now either. Brilliant. Just like when he was stuck behind Berbatov and Rooney. His b*tching and moaning will only get worse now.

Did anyone sign Hitzlsperger? I can't remember a German setting the league alight since Jurgen Klinsmann. He was a fantastic player. I think Mertesacker will do well and if Arsenal's signings stay fit and settle in quick then I expect the same top four as last year.

Newcastle clearly had money to spend if they had agreed that fee for Ruiz so why the hell did they wait until the last day? I think they knew Ruiz would never come and made the bid as a way of looking like they were trying. Is Ben Arfa still there?

I'm not sure if losing Arteta is that bad for Everton. He has been injured alot anyway for the last couple of years and didn't seem to be on his best form when he did play, although I can't remember seeing a whole lot of him last year. They got two players in, if that Argentine striker does well then that could be exactly what they need. They really miss Saha when he doesn't play, which is alot.

Bellamy is apparently a fantastic signing. A player who didn't exactly cut it at Championship level last year. Does that mean that keeping Grant Holt was the coup of the summer?

Quick quote from F365's deadline day blog...

23.04: Appalling sycophancy from the SSN chaps towards Harry Redknapp - praising him for making a profit on their transfer dealings. Arsene Wenger, meanwhile...

I like how when its something good its all Redknapp. When its something bad its all Levy. Brilliant.

Why are they asking Fabio Capello at his press conference about England beating Germany 5-1 ten years ago? It was only a qualifier....10 years ago....qualifier.....10 years....Are the Germans aware just how obsessed with them the English media actually are? Its kinda scary.

Do I feel bad for laughing at someone earning millons from just playing football? Not at all.

Going to a new club adress like Arsenal might just be what Arteta needs.
He had an off-season but he's still got some quality.

Yeah Ruiz was a typical "we tried to make a bid" stunt.
Ben Arfa is still in the club, unfortunetly he suffered an injury during the tour in the states that has kept him off for a while.
He's expected to carry the team more than ever now when he comes back... that's just shear madness.

Dalglish has made a few strange signing... might as well bring in Bellamy among those too.

Aye, Redknapp can do nothing wrong.

English football media is scary in general too.

All the transfers:

New Castle got Santon and Arsenal got one Brazilian, a Korean, Mertesacker and someone from Southampton.

Is Sneijder going to join Manchester United?

Oh its ok Tevez is settled in Manchester now. We all have to stop laughing because he doesn't want to leave...

http://www.football3...d-again-for-now

Four or five years in England. Still can't speak English... Is his wife as thick as he is? Why don't other players have this issue?

Pardew seems to have been punished for speaking about a ref. Not sure of the full story I just briefly heard it earlier on SSN.

Four years? Wow, tha's kinda sad... and astonishing.

All I know of is that Pardew said ahead of the Sunderland derby that Webb would have to do his best to stay neutral for the game... he was thinking about Barton here.

Aw...do we really have to stop laughing at Tevez? Saw that earlier and apparently all is well in the Tevez camp...until his wife decides to go back home with the children in which case he'll be all stroppy again. Seriously, he must have made enough to retire comfortably....but maybe we're being too sensible and not thinking all Tevez-like.

That he can't speak the language is a failing. Perhaps it's because he doesn't want to learn it. Capello might not be brilliant at English, but he learnt enough to deal with it in his role as England manager (or enough for the basics anyway). Mind you...no, actually what I have in mind would be moving into social issues a bit too much.

We know full well that any comment about referees is likely to be met with punishment from the FA. Remember when Ferguson was it (?) praised a referee? I think managers are reduced to using tautologies with regards to refs, but even that might be up in the air.

We are very close to 100 pages!

Well we can quietly snigger at Tevez now but then errupt back into laughter when he pulls the punchline in a couple of weeks. He is kind of like a Fast Show sketch.

I think Capello can speak much better English than he lets on. I always assumed he pleaded ignorance to put reporters off hassling him with too many questions.

Aye its kind of ridiculous how they will crack down on speaking about refs but not tapping up or talking about another teams players. They pick strange things to crack down on while ignoring others.

SSN are claiming Lampard will be dropped tonight. Can't find anywhere taking bets on him being in the team, damn it. Smalling is supposed to be starting at right back, he hasn't really been tested there yet for United. I suspect he will be second fiddle to Rafael when he comes back too. They also seem to be implying that playing England is such an honour that Berbatov might come out of retirement for it....I've never met an actual English fan outside of their media that thinks like that.

Edit: Sweet Jesus Lampard is fit yet has been dropped. Have they finally copped on that he is a bit sh*t?

We are indeed nearing 100 pages. Shouldn't be long now.

Oh well. I suppose if I had to laugh at Tevez too much my sides would literally split. Laughing at Tevez too much; a health hazard.

Wouldn't surprise me if they cracked down on comments about refs because it is one of the things they can do; or at least be seen to be able to do. I highly doubt they would actually be able to crack down on tapping up and stuff; not that I am suggesting they should give up.

Oooo....that sounds gutsy for an England manager. Dropping a fit Lampard? Be interesting to see how the team fares. Looking at the line-up it does look very much like an in-form selection of players, something Capello said he would do when he originally took the job. Young in the hole behind Rooney. That sound dodgy for some reason....*cough*

I think playing for your country has less prestige now than it used to. Probably has a fair bit to do with the money.

Oh...read the remarks from Gary Neville about England's prospects?

Aye I suppose your right about the crackdown. But atleast punish them when its blatantly obvious. *coughredknappcough* Ahem.

Capello will be lambasted if they don't win without Fat Frank. Mind you he will be lambasted anyway, maybe he has realised that. Just as I type this England are 1-0, Cahill scored. I get the feeling it will be an easy victory now with Englands pace picking Bulgaria off as they look for an equalizer. Wheres Edward Woodward when he is needed? Rooney seems to occassionally be in that dodgy hole instead of Young. Theres alot of hole swapping going on.

Champions league probably has more prestige than playing for your country in most places. Especially for places like over here, Wales and Scotland.

Where did you see these Neviller remarks? I haven't seen any of his prophetic words today.

But I will share this. Prepare to shed a small tear in sympathy for poor Carlitos...

Article on SkySports site. Though I think I saw it on F365 first....and it was slightly different. Gist is still the same though.

From having a belly laugh at Tevez to shedding a tear for him. After other occurrences I'm starting to think we are closer to the Apocalypse..... just hope it doesn't interrupt my playing ME3 *cough*

Wonder if Lampard will stay benched though. Or has Capello finally seen the light? One can hope that this bodes well for the future, even if we still believe we're better than we actually are.

Poor poor Carlos. He was crap and people being upset about him being crap made him fat. Those evil bastards, how could they do this to model professional Carlos Tevez?

Owen Hargreaves lasting more than 20 minutes will convince me that the end is nigh.

I like what the Neviller did there. The bit about the girlfriend, he gave the pc version but I think we all saw what he really intended to say. About time someone in the media admitted England are nowhere near the top teams.

I didn't see much of the match, I was watching the NI match but I assume a 3-0 away result is reason enough to keep him out of the side. Papers as always will be intersting.

NI were ontop against Serbia and looking decent for a draw or maybe nicking a goal until an absolutely horrendous back pass cost the match. Saying that though Serbia gave them an absolute battering before half time but seemed to switch off in the second half and NI stopped pumping long balls at 5'9'' David Healy.

Bah I want PL football.

It somehow feels...odd? that Scholes and Neville have spoken about the England team since they retired from playing. It makes sense, but curious that few others have really been honest about England's chances on the international stage. Maybe this will change things. Probably also a sign for the Apocalypse.

Just a bit longer for our regular schedule of footy goodness. Hang on there.

Wasn't Scholes going to come out of retirement for the World Cup? Did I imagine that? Neville was always available too, so I suppose it made sense for them to wait until retiring. I'd imagine others have said it and been completely ignored by the media. Theres probably a fear about speaking out because of possible media backlash too.

Tevez seems to have elaborated on his latest problem with people other than himself today, that or its the same interview with a different translation. He will probably beat this drum for a while until its almost time to move. My money is on him claiming he has been made fat by not getting in the City team ahead of Aguero and Dzeko in the next couple of months. For someone who claims to be a quiet family man who doesn't want to play football he sure gives alot of interviews about it.

Another sign of the apocalypse would be Barca behaving with some sort of decency and not talking about signing Fabregas. But we are safe from that...

http://www.football3...il-Bargain-Cesc

The first commentor on the article summed it up. Utterly classless, it almost comes across as buyers remorse trying to justify what they bought.

Almost forgot, has anyone been reading Wesley Sneijders quotes recently? Am I the only one that senses he is a bit jilted? "Well I didn't fancy her anyway, I only wanted my Samantha Fox love doll and wouldn't have given it up for her." He keeps commenting on not going to United and its getting....odd.
