Didn't see a thread already, so here it is: http://gameinformer....dragon-age.aspx

I wonder if we see all of these locales in DA2 or if its just places that may be referenced?

And it seems they updated the DA2 hub as well- next set to update on 7/21 :wizard:

Good question.

My first inclination was that these were significant locations, but not necessarily places we will visit. I could be wrong though. But I think that a game that widespread would be a bit "fast" compared to DAO which was only focused on Ferelden.

But Hawke has 10 years to become most important person in Thedas, so maybe it is possible.

Yeah, the whole 10 year thing makes me think they might spread the map out more for DA2. I'd just hate to have a huge place like Minrathrous or Val Royeaux only get a bit part in DA2- those are big places lore wise and I'd think would need their own game to focus on their respective countries really.

With the world they've created; the possibilities of new stories and games are endless. I doubt we'll be visiting Par Vollen any time soon.

I think I agree with you on that. As much as I want to see Tevinter, I would hate to have just one small visit to Minrathous, for example. Also, I have to admit that I would love to see each country in the same detail that DAO (including DLC and expansions) has presented Ferelden, its history, and its culture.

Considering that it seems BioWare wants the whole Dragon Age series to be as much about the land of Thedas as any set of characters, it would make sense if every new game explored a new country or area in some detail.

Awesome! I've been wanting more info on geography. This also means that GI isn't done with releasing info! YAY! I thought they were done.

Brockololly: Yeah, I agree. I really like that approach, and to me that is the special thing about this series.

Thedas is just amazing. I want a DA game with open world exploration, with a world that's not very scaled down. A world that's mindblowingly huge with unlimited secrets and plots to uncover. Enormous tracts of wilderness and gigantic cities. And I'm talking the whole of Thedas now, so of course, it would require optional fast travel :D

Sadly, that will never happen...

Maybe a dev could answer: Geographically speaking in real world Earth terms, how big is Thedas supposed to be? I think I remember Gaider or one of the devs saying Ferelden was supposed to be about the size of Britain- is that right? So Thedas (or at least what we see on the map) is maybe the size of contiental Europe?

And about how long would it take to travel from one end of Thedas to another- like from Minrathrous to the Korcari Wilds or Antiva City to Arl Dumat? Are we talking years? Months?

Thedas is about the size of Europe.

I was under the impression from earlier info, like GI's first released info, that the whole game would be set in Free marches, except for escaping Lothering. It would be interesting if we see a few other places though.

I agree that the individual countries need to be fleshed out in their own games though.

It would be neat to have an Oblivion style map for the Free Marches, but that would never happen in a BioWare game. What I'm at least hoping for in DA2 are some nice looking scenic landscapes and vistas to look out far in the distance.

So maybe if you're escaping Lothering you can see smoke billowing up in the background or if you're at a certain point in Kirkwall you can look out far across the Waking Sea and watch the sunset or something. There was a distinct lack of awesome landscapes in DAO- thats one area where it seems the concept art always trumps the final product.

What I'm wondering too is if possibly in the present day narrative of Cassandra hunting down information on Hawke, she doesn't travel across Thedas tracking down old companions. So maybe Cassandra visits Val Royeaux or Antiva City and we see it that way, but never playable as Hawke?

Sounds like the perfect spot for an Isabela or maybe even Zevran cameo!

I think thats the plan- that certain areas we visit early on, we visit later on and can see the consequences of our actions there. I think the GI article mentioned a hypothetical example of saving a city under seige and returning years later to grateful citizens, whereas if you abandon it, it could change the whole region years later.

And Mary Kirby said in some recent post that some sidequests would span the course of years too.

I do believe Zeveran met an unfortunate end on a dusty road. Pity.
