Is there any power (preferably a bonus power) that can rival the CC of Singularity?

With the Adept having had far more use than the other classes due its Singularity, I thought it would be time to try something new. Unfortunately, I'm nervous about trying another insanity playthrough without the ability to... well, stop everything in its tracks and open fire on it.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated ^_^

Hmm. I'd suggest an engineer, and invest heavily in incineration blast as soon as you can.

Start (almost) every fight with a combat drone, and follow it up with incinerate. You'd be surprised how few bullets fly your way.

Interesting, however from what I've read, engineers seem to end up hanging back mostly, don't they? I'll give this a try however, thanks for the reply :)

Engineers can still do close quarters really well. But anyway, yes, CD is like Singularity for single targets.

Damn, suppose it would be good to be true that there would be anything that could equal Singularity, never mind, time to try an Engineer I think  :o

Every class can be aggressive, and getting close enough for the x2 bonus is cool.

However, drone and incinerate aren't get out of jail free cards like some other powers can be (cloak, charge, adrenaline rush), so overextending yourself can prove fatal.

The upside is, everything engineer has a low cooldown ... so medigel while fleeing can often be plan B.

Don't the Engineers have a way of dealing with most defences? If that's the case, I may take GSB as a bonus. Makes a nice Panic Button  :P

I find using incineration blast vs. shields is more effective than spreading my points across incinerate and overload.

It's like ... I can do double damage of something slightly less vs. shields, which doesn't blow through onto health (ok, overheating weapons is nice, but still), or I can hit multiple targets and stagger them (if they have defenses .. panic if they don't).

And ... after I max incinerate, I look at the passive and drone, and said sod it to overload. Your mileage may vary, though. Respec and experiment to see what works best.

I just watched the whole opening cinematic, got to the class selection screen and....... picked Vanguard

I would say for a bonus power, neural shock. It has a really long duration, short cooldown, and especially good if you evolve to the AoE version. Also, the aiming impairment does noticeably help... to me anyways. Only if enemy's shields are down though. Otherwise, combat drone and engineer all the way.

Edited out your mistake. :P

Anyway an infiltrator with incineration blast is quite awesome, especially when you want to line up for headshots.

I'm new to Mass Effect 2(just beat it a couple days ago) and I started it again on insanity. If what I am reading is correct, is being a soldier a bad choice for this difficulty level?

No, Soldier is one of the most powerful classes out there.
