Why Human?

Most people are too shallow to accept dwarves, as they are "short and ugly", but everyone knows dwarves are for real manly men
dragon age elves are not tolkien esque (As much), else everyone would be rolling out elves called legolaxxxxx

The other threads have a lot in between them which leads to a Dev not noticing mine. I want a dev to notice mine.
Is there some sacred number of threads which can be about this topic? Yeah, I didn't think so.

Clearly you never played a Dalish then.
Oh yeah I did. My character got taken out by a mirror. A MIRROR. When I wasn't out in the wild, fighting the oh so fearsome woodland critters, I had to listen to the other elves whine and moan about how rough they have it.
Meanwhile, my dwarf Noble was having threesomes and beating the crap out of highly trained and heavily armored dwarf warriors.
Dwarf Noble origin was the best origin hands down. Second was Human Noble.

Did you see any
Dwarfs in Lothering? Or any Elves that were not refugees from someplace
else who got robbed? It was a purely human town.
Also Hawke
becomes the Champion of Kirkwall. An infamous city that was originally
the site of the Tivinter slave markets, and the slaves were Elves. Why
would said city (now under strict Templar/Chantry overview) make a
non-human its Champion?
If you want to play elf/dwarf in the plot
Bioware has cooked up for DA2, you have to utterly rape the established
lore to do so. I would rather be confined to a human than suffer
massive retcons about how an exiled Dwarf became a champion of one of
the most historically xenophobic city states in Thedas

Dwarf Noble is a hard-ass general who deserves to be taller.
Human Noble is a spoiled noble who rises above after a tragedy to become a badass
Mid-classes
Mages are awesome, but the origin is too confining
City elf is awesome for the fact that you get to rise up against "The Man" and gets away with it.
Dalish elf is fun and unique, but directing as well (plus like another guy mentioned, I got my ass kicked by a mirror that Duncan destroys like nothing)
Blah
Dwarven Commoner is my least favorite origin. You are just some thug that does wuss things instead of doing something about your poverty.

Okay, I didn't know that about Kirkwall. This being the case, why the hell would I want to play as a "Champion" of some place like that? I had trouble playing a human noble in Dragon Age due to what the humans had been doing to the other races. This city they want my character to become "champion" of epitomises the very thing I hate about the humans in this game? No thank you. Guess I will be skipping this one after all then.

I'll grant that it is highly unlikely. But to be fair, non-human protagonists (and human mages for that matter) can attain positions of power in DA:O and DA:A, even though that's highly unlikely and probably unheard of in Ferelden. You can't become king or queen, but you can be the new Teyrn of Gwaren, the new Arl of Denerim, and the Arl of Amaranthine. In fact, the last one happens automatically as part of the plot.

Perhaps DA2 will allow you to change the political climate of the city to a certain extent. No one's saying you must agree with the politics of the average citizen of Kirkwall.

Maybe, but I highly doubt you'll be able to change things enough. That's one thing I hated about the first game too now that I think about it. If I was really the Grey Warden and an elf at the end of that game I would have immediately taken over Ferelden myself immediately after the Archdemon was slain. As in I would have marched on the human capital (already in ruins by the way) with my army I had already gathered.

Well if you already know you won't like the story then well, that's that and maybe you're wasting your time being on a forum for a game you've already sworn off.
or
You could wait for a better influx of information to make a more educated opinion.

Really? What army? The "human" mages? Dwarves? Redcliff Militia?
What army other than the Dalish would help you march on a city you just saved?

I intend to wait for more information, it's WHY I'm on the forums. I really hope someone proves me wrong on this. I like Bioware games a lot and have pretty much all of them (even the Black Isle stuff). This is mainly me asking them to please not do things this way. They might listen, they might not, but it makes me feel better that I can at least talk about what has upset me about this game that I was looking forward to.

There would just be the Dalish and possibly the city elves. I would have no need to march on the city as my forces would already be there as well as have arrived a bit late, therefore all the other armies are relatively quite small due to having fought the darkspawn.

They've already established that Hawke will be human and I don't see them going back on that. Besides, just because the majority of the human race hates elves and treat them poorly, doesn't mean that you will be the face of elven mistreatment just because you are the champion of a human village. As someone else said, you may be able to sway the humans that hate the other races over to your point of view.

I don't think the Dalish would act so recklessly, but the city elves may, and with good reason. Still seems like a steep hill to climb.
And it would likely end poorly for the city elves, whether it's fair or not.
