Yeah, play the City Elf origin and then say that.

I fail to see how that invalidates his point. All Humans =/= Vaughn

I don't think the Dalish would act so recklessly, but the city elves may, and with good reason. Still seems like a steep hill to climb.

And it would likely end poorly for the city elves, whether it's fair or not.

If you are Dalish yourself, I see no reason the Dalish wouldn't join you, especially if you planned for this before you even were in the city. Don't underestimate the resolve of a downtrodden and abused people or the element of surprise. NO one would be expecting it, especially if you were publicly supportive of the human kingdom.

True, but the human nobility allow people like Vaughn to be in power. I want the humans to eventually get their comeuppance in this series. I do not like seeing the badguys win. Watch a movie were that happens and tell me you're not at least a little pissed off.

Nobody is saying that what a portion of the humans did isn't wrong. It is. But the fact that you're swearing off playing a whole race because of that is a little ridiculous if not stupid.

All right let me explain it to you this way: I don't have a single human character in Dragon Age. This is odd for me because I always have a character from every race in just about every game I play (extreme altaholic here). The reason for this is what happened when I played the human noble origin. I find out everything the humans have done to the elves, then I go to their camp and they basically call me a douchebag. And then the thing is they were kind of right. My entire species had just screwed over their entire species. That wasn't fun for me. I haven't rolled a human since. Now it seems to me like the entire next game is going to be like that particular bad experience. How can it not be? You're not only human from that slaving culture, you're their champion. The champion douchebag. How is that fun?

Well, then, don't get the game I guess?  It's highly unlikely that DA2 will be be changed to allow dwarf and elf PCs at this point.

True, but maybe they'll make humans LESS of a bunch of douchebags. That would also be acceptable.

I understand that, but you're also given the choice to help those elves, and besides, it's my understanding that you aren't the champion until at least halfway through the game. So depending on how you play the game, you could be the champion that helped the elves gain a better standing in the city of Kirkwall. Just because the elves may seem a little sour to you at first, that doesn't mean you can't gain their favour. Of course, all this is speculation and I don't even know if that will be included in the game, but if it's as political as other people seem to think it's going to be then I'm sure elves will be in the equation somewhere.

The devs have mentioned that HOW you become the Champion of Kirkwall is an important part of the story.

I loved the way both elves and dwarves were done in Dragon Age: Origins. Humans though for the most part seemed to be douchebags. I was really looking forward to Dragon Age 2, now......not so much.

Another problem I have is voicing the main character. I understand that that's the new "thing to do" among developers, but for me it really takes you out of the immersion if the character sounds nothing like you. There's a reason Link is voiceless in all the good Zelda games.

Finally, I also really loved the origin thing. I thought the origin thing was what was going to set dragon age apart from the rest. Unfortunately it seems they're tossing that idea out the window. This is very sad news for me. I will still be watching all news on it and hopefully it turns out to be good, but for now I'm setting my expectations to low and will wait instead of pre-ordering it like I did with the first one.

I have a feeling that Hawke will unite the city states of the Free Marches under his rule and implement a monarchy. Since these are humans lands only a human can become king. Thats my theory anyway.

Well, I have......atleast 6 times. IMO a very fun origin.

Hay, "try playing the Human Noble Origin"!!

Think the Cousland boy/girl had it any better?

No, not at all. One girl was sadly raped, your bethroved slaughtered and a few skinned knees. Terrible? Yes.

The Cousland lad had his mother and father killed; his brothers family (oh the children!) killed, his very home pillaged and EVERYONE of the castle's stewards slaughtered.

Now really, "did they have it better"???

Yeah, I do think he had it better. For the first twenty odd years of his life he /she had it better.

The city elf lived in filth and squalor which finally came to a crisis when humans raped his cousin/or when humans raped the elf herself. This is also AFTER humans had already killed his/her mother and nothing was done about it. He/she is then blackmailed into becoming a Grey Warden or the humans will kill him/her.

The human noble on the other hand lived in the lap of luxury with BOTH of his/her parents until a noble decided he wanted their stuff. People try to kill the human but he/she is too tough for them and kills many before finding out they have just then mortally wounded his/her father whom he/she has a touching goodbye scene with. He/she then becomes a grey Warden per his/her father's dying wish.

Your character never gets raped, Shianni does however.

And we were talking Origin story here, correct?

It never sufficiently says that you weren't. You also get the feeling that this sort of thing has been going on for years.

and yes, I'm talking about origin story.

No, the female City Elf PC was never raped. You take a stand, they draw their weapons, then Sorris busts in and gives you one himself.

Arl Howe "decided he wanted their stuff", which in my opinion plays very nicely into the story as a whole.

People try to kill the human but he/she is too tough for them and kills many before finding out they have just then mortally wounded his/her father whom he/she has a touching goodbye scene with. He/she then becomes a grey Warden per his/her father's dying wish.

The City Elf wasn't to tough for the guards in the rescue? Oh and also, it wasn't the Cousland's fathers dying wish, it was a demand by Duncan to lead the kid to safety (out of the castle).

I think the prejudice is concreted into your head, which is fascinating considering it is a GAME.

Did you see any
Dwarfs in Lothering? Or any Elves that were not refugees from someplace
else who got robbed? It was a purely human town.

Also Hawke
becomes the Champion of Kirkwall. An infamous city that was originally
the site of the Tivinter slave markets, and the slaves were Elves. Why
would said city (now under strict Templar/Chantry overview) make a
non-human its Champion?

If you want to play elf/dwarf in the plot
Bioware has cooked up for DA2, you have to utterly rape the established
lore to do so. I would rather be confined to a human than suffer
massive retcons about how an exiled Dwarf became a champion of one of
the most historically xenophobic city states in Thedas

Okay, I didn't know that about Kirkwall. This being the case, why the hell would I want to play as a "Champion" of some place like that? I had trouble playing a human noble in Dragon Age due to what the humans had been doing to the other races. This city they want my character to become "champion" of epitomises the very thing I hate about the humans in this game? No thank you. Guess I will be skipping this one after all then.

Close minded much?

I mean it's this exact sort of one sided thinking that is the reason the world if full of bigots and racists today. Not saying you are so don't flip over that. Talking about your generalization that all humans in DA treat other races poorly.

Nope, your father is even dismayed when you say you would like to become a Grey Warden in the opening scenes (with Howe, Duncan and the Father).

It was a compromise the father made on his death bed. Play it again!!

Okay........being disgusted with bigots and racists (an entire society of them) makes me racist............right............
I never said all humans in DA treat other races poorly. I said MOST of them do. If you don't beleive me, play a city elf. And my comments in that are because Zalocx said that Kirkwall is essentially a city of bigots. I stated and stand by that I would never want to be a champion of a bunch of bigots.

By the way, do you see one Single human in the game trying to improve things for the elves? Even Lelianna is just fine with Orlesian elves being slaves. Talk to her about it sometime as an elf. It's very enlightening.

No, I already said I'm never playing another human on DA Origins.

Also even if the human noble was also forced into being a grey warden, he/she still live out the first two decades of his/her life as a member of a respected family. The city elf lives that same expanse in poverty, without their mother because she was murdered and nobody cares. Oh, and nearly every human in the city spits on you.

Perhaps you're the "Champion" because you slayed all of the bigots?

Thing is, we don't know, so to write a game off so early because of what the misinterpretations in your head leave you to believe...............is, well....bad

I have played it many times.
He says it has always been a Couslands duty to do what is right.
In the end he tells you to join.
If you refuse even then Duncan pulls the conscription on you.
