Updated: Got past making a new game, skip down to my next couple messages to see the new problems.

Thanks,

Hello,

1st off, Yes I did install the toolset.
2. I have the steam version of the game.
3. My "modules" folder is empty, so that shouldn't be the problem.
4. I CAN play an existing game through "load game" and it plays fine so far as I know.

The problem: When I try to create a new game, it starts to load, and gets to the point where it starts the movie and I see the large text on the screen if I continue to wait or press the ESC key to skip the video the game simply crashes to the desktop with the normal windows error reporting window.

SInce I have existing games, it's obvious that at one time it did work, and I've not done anything to my computer in the way of adding stuff, or changing stuff since.  The only thing I've done in the editor is to simply create a basic room but I've not touched any game files etc.

Honestly this is the flakiest game that I have ever owned, one moment it works fine and then the next it won't allow me to create new games but will allow me to play existing games.

How do I go about playing this game and creating new games now?

AMD Quadcore 2.2GHz
8GB System RAM
Win 7
Steam version of DAO
Nvidia 275 GTX video card
All drivers are updated

1) Load toolset, goto tool > export > Empty Export Directories

2)

FIND:

Windows XP: My Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\modules

Windows Vista: Documents\\\\Bioware\\\\Dragon Age\\\\modules

Delete anything called single player

3)

FIND

Windows XP: My Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\modules\\\\single player\\\\override

Windows Vista: Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\modules\\\\single player\\\\override

Delete anything in this folder

4)

FIND:

Windows XP: My Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\packages\\\\core\\\\override

Windows Vista: Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\packages\\\\core\\\\override

Delete anything in this folder

I said theres nothing in the modules folder.

Thank you for the reply however.

I found the simplest solution was to just rename the Bioware\\\\DragonAge folder to something like Dragon Age BACKUP. Start the game so that it recreates that specific folder and it allows me to create a new game.

Then copy back in the Character folder to where it was originally so that I can play both my old characters and start new games.

Most importantly though I'd like to know. Am I doing something wrong everytime I just open the toolset even though Im not messing with official original files?

My instructions covered more than just the modules folder. Your alternative fix simply erased everything, which is certainly an option. ;)

In re: to the toolset, check the toolset forums but much of it is based on the toolset loading the original files by default and then exporting out pieces of it into various user folders which then mess with the game unless specific instructions are followed which prevents it from happening. Check the toolset forums for more detail.

Well, got through the harrowing. Leveled up and applied my point and chose my new skill, clicked Play and BAM, back to the desktop I go. WTH?  Sadly, Im really starting to think not ready for prime time at this point.

Okay so, are there any logs or anything that would help support track down the problem on my computer with DAO? Anything else I might want to know about the game and problems it's got with this sort of issue?

Thanks,
