Probably because he saves your life when you first see him. And then doesn't do anything even remotely suspicious despite being lodged in your ship's AI core. And if he was concocting some grand scheme to get on to the Normandy, it apparently involved him being shot to death and then reactivated by Shepard, which isn't exactly a cunning plan.

I don't trust Legion because he's just sitting there and everything he could be feeding you is bull**** but you're forced to take his word for it because there's no other talking Geth to compare him with.

Even if Legion wasn't my bestest buddy in the whole galaxy, I wouldn't give him to Cerberus because I don't trust them at all. Same reason why I destroy the Collector base--if i could choose who to give it to, then I'd keep it, because I'd give it to a group I trust.

I gave Legion to Cerberus on on of my playthroughs where I made sure only half of my crew and squadmates survive. Substantial bounty my bottom. Other then that he's almost permanently on my team.

I like how in Overlord there is an extra line from the surviving scientist (if you bring Legion along) asking if Shepard trusts Legion.

People trust legion probably because it has no reason to betray you. When you first meet him, he could have easily shot your head off with a sniper rifle round - instead, he decided to help you. If Legion was actively working against Shepard, then he would already have died. He is the only Geth you meet that is seemingly Altruistic.

If there's one companion that's trustworthy it's legion, a better question would be why people trust Jack or Morinth
