I admit, a lot of my opinion/reasoning is colored by sleep-deprivation, general dislike of the Chantry, and my personal love of running amok thumbing my nose at the templars.

That being said, we know so far that Hawke is/will be the Champion of Kirkwall, whatever "champion" means.  Safe to say that it's probably important and awesome and has something to do with Kirkwall.  Kirkwall is currently ruled by the templars, who control its Circle of Magi with an iron grip of doom.  Think Cullen running Ferelden's Circle, times about ten, minus the strange fangirling over Cullen and his Fridge Horror of Creepy.  Or maybe with it.  You never know

We also know Hawke can be a mage.  I could be completely wrong, but I think it's highly unlikely that Hawke would come from Kirkwall's Circle unless someone had already overthrown the templars or something by the time Hawke turned up there.  The Circle in Ferelden was far more liberal-minded, but they kept very tight tabs on their mages too.  The only reason why the Warden, if a mage, was allowed to leave was because even the Chantry can't gainsay the Grey Wardens.  Unless Hawke is in the same boat and conscripted by the Wardens--which I somehow doubt--I have a very hard time seeing Kirkwall's templars letting Hawke and his/her mage sister run amok having adventures.

Which leaves the possibility of Hawke belonging to another Circle, or going rogue.  All we know is that Hawke was in Lothering prior to its destruction during the previous Blight.  Presumably s/he eventually ended up in or around Kirkwall.  We have no idea of the amount of time in between the two, so it's plausible that Hawke and Bethany were taken into a different Circle of Magi.  Though the question then remains--why would ANY Circle, other than the Tevinter one, let their mages out of the tower?

Personally, I wanna be an apostate and tear the templar establishment in Kirkwall to the ground.  But that's just me :innocent:

I completely agree with you and have been thinking the exact same thing! I am also hoping that Lady Hawke is an apostate and am planning to have her burn the templars and the Chantry to the ground.....just for fun.
(My opinion may also be colored by being sleep deprived and a love for causing trouble for the templars as well)

That's an entirely probable scenario Sable, but just to counter the Chantry hate in this thread (and I hate mages.... and elves) my first Hawke will be pro-templar ;)

What side I'll pick will entirely depend on how each faction is depicted, which means that if things are how they seem to be based on current info, what with the Templars oppressing the townspeople, I will more likely than not side with the mages/townspeople.

Likewise, I sided with the Templars in Broken Circle because most mages actually proved how dangerous they could be, apostate Morrigan being the ironical exception.

THIS.

I chose to  support the Circle of Mages because I usually play as the Lawful Good character and bought into the argument by Wynne about saving the innocents... (Which ended up being a lone guy, Irving, anyway).... So I hope we will be not be FORCED to be apostates, but will have the choice to become one if we do not agree with the Cahntry/Tower/Templar view.

I'd love to play as an apostate. If there will be a possibility to slaughter all templars and destroy some part of the Chantry in DA2, I'll buy the game even if everything else about it sucks.

I dont like the name "Champion of Kirkwall" why not something more ambiguous like Guardian or Lord Protector of Kirkwall, The word Champion brings to my mind a warrior or an athlete not a wizard.

Just saying.

Err... You can be?

If you read that correctly, I would like to be an apostate or NOT depending upon the situation. I don't want to be forced being one.

I say Bioware should create an alternative to the Cricle like a secret society for Apostate mages, You can call it something cool like the Secret society of the ring of fire! or something of that sort.

I would like being an apostate, as long as I get a chance to burn down some chantrys and the like. They deserve it for imprisoning mages, who are obviously the superior beings, and should rightfully be the masters of all.

You know, I am still against being just a human due to their horrible slavery and oppression culture. A human Apostate on the other hand is a different matter entirely........

To counter the chantry hate in this thread I'll be playing as a mage who will side with the chantry. If anything I wish for the pro-chantry people we can maybe loosen their control a little, maybe make this circle similar to the ferelden circle where the mages have some freedoms; but still keep tabs on them for the sake of innocents.

May the Templars fear Hawke the Apostate, destroyer of the Circle of Magi!

I also would enjoy playing as an apostate, especially seeing in how an apostate's views on matters could be screwed. An apostate (think Morrigan), first off does not know every dictation/curtisy given toward people. I would love for my character to be unique and not understand the political drive of people. (who you have as a friend, as an example can have a political reasoning)

Also, an apostate will have a far greater difference in opinion on the use of magic than a Circle Mage. An apostate has to use their magic for survival, (s)he depends on it to live. Magic is not a curse to an apostate (unless of course the player roleplays that the apostate feels this way), it is an ability not given to many people. I would love to believe in magic as a blessing or as my father/mother (most likely mother) believes.

well i still think that hawke WAS a circle mage gone rogue. and if not him, than his sister. there propably is a good reason why the game gives us a mage sister. so one way: we get sent to kirkwall by the templars in order to do....whatever OR we become appostates and go to kirkwall to...i dunno... kick some templar faces maybe? or we propably get caught by templars to be execuited or something.

They may take our blood and put it in a little vial and use it to hunt us down if we ever run away, they may put us all in towers and have us under 24 hour guard by fanatic knights who put their maker before any human need and would slay us in a second if we so much as *thought* of running away, but they will never take our FREEDOOO-wait... they already did, didn't they? Bastards.
