Thats is far away from still selling well.

That the sequel sell better then the first game in the first month isnt suprising because a lot people preordered it because of the first.

No kidding.  According to that site Mass Effect 2 sold ZERO copies on PC.

I give the credibility of that site the same number.

Again, for them the thing they value most of all - shooter mechanics - is greatly improved in ME2, and so
that holds more weight when they assess the two games side-by-side than storytelling or RPG management.

Neither of these approaches is wrong, both simply reflect what is more important for each individual player. That is why it's always going to be such an explosive debate, because we don't all have the same list in the same order of preference.

I thought the RPG management in ME1 was pretty weak.  There were skills you absolutely had to have, skills you should have, and some that were pretty much useless.  I thought the customization was limited by the fact you got so many points you could pretty much specialize in everything.  Further the RPG system was completely broken the game became trivial even on the highest difficulty levels.

The RPG system in ME2 while seeming to have fewer options in fact was more balanced and lacked most of these defects.  Of course it introduced some annoying new interpretations of the classes that moved the goal posts on what people thought they had rolled up.  But ultimately I will take a better designed but more limited system over a poorly designed and broken one.  Ultimately I hope they make one that has options and functionality.

But anyway I take exception with the notion that shooter elements means you like ME2 and RPG elements means you like ME1.  I prefer ME2s RPG elements such as they were.

Then why have a page pretending to track them then?

And now the player can retribute his points in for every new mission. And please, dont tell that Mass Effect 2 insanity is hard and not trivial...

In the old vgchartz website setup it was needed to add games to your collection, in the new one I have no idea.

Do you redistribute your points before every mission? If not then why do you care if someone else does?

Why do I love ME2?

-Interesting combat, something Bioware hasn't done for me in years

-Wonderful cast, bringing a whole lot more life to your ship this time around

-EMOTIONALLY ENGAGING! Seriously though, there are some relatively intense moments between you and your squadmates. Few game's have been able to match it.

-I think the only expectation that didn't get met was that for some reason I felt the lighting on the new Normandy would be a bit more colorful. Everything else was superb.

-It's Mass Effect, and therefore awesome regardless.

Also,

The average video game critic has never been known to be that...critical.
Hype, bias and not a long enough history of critical analysis applied the medium leads to hyperbole and exaggerations.
I would argue that the interactive arts have grown out of its infancy; but sadly not the culture surrounding it.

P.S
And I'd also like to say that numeral scores are useless. Arbitrary calculations based on arbitrary assumptions resulting in arbitrary stamps of alleged quality.

you gotta remember too, most businesses that review games are dependent on them. If you ****** off a company too much by being really harsh you risk not being given access to future previews, early review copies, etc.

It sucks but that's the way the video game business works, especially with giant sites like IGN and gamespot.

Capitalism is a dirty bussines.

Exactly. And...? Of course they shouldn't have been rewarded 5 stars either.

So if 5 stars should be reserved for a single movie and 1 star for another everything else would be 2, 3 or 4 stars? They might as well change it to didn't like / indifferent/ liked.

Yeah, why not? I wouldn't mind 4.5 of 5 stars either for a really good movie. But 100% is 100%, and that means perfection. Simple, no?

I don't want to get into a debate, but I felt ME2 was a lot less memorable than ME1 overall. Hell, I thought Nihlus was more memorable than Jacob, and he died on the first mission.
