Anyone get the notion that sten will become a main antagonist for one of the dragon age 2 plot lines.  He does hint that the quanari may invade ferelden sometime and he'll probabily be a general despite if we did his personal quest or not.

Heck... its a kinda tautology to call him General Sten. He would be called General. ONLY>

Main antagonist? Probably not. They always make them to be evil hateful characters and Sten is not. Though I could easily see a Qunari invasion and him being involved in some way. Even being forced to fight and kill him, but he won't be the main bad guy.

That would lead to an awkward plot twist in my game... seeing how he died and all. You guys gotta face the fact, characters with a good chance of dying (Sten, Leliana, Shale, ect) will prob at best only have cameos. Or in Leliana's case, a prequel.

Bioware just won't put in the $$$, time, and sweat into a character who is dead for many.

Thats why you see characters like Morrigan, Oghren, and Tali return... but not characters like Ashley, Kaiden, Mission, ect.

Everyone can die in ME2, including Tali. In other words, the trend will have to end soon.

It would be interesting to see 1rst what exactly neutralizes the advantage
Thedas has over the q'nari due to it's own circle magi.

Q'nari may suffer from a missionary cuckoo wich even outmaches
the chantry fundamentalists of the past but they are also strategists.

They would only strike if there was a good chance for success
- I  wonder what could give them the required edge:
... a new ally or a new invention....

I believe I read somewhere they were experimenting with gunpowder.  Maybe even had cannons already.

As evidenced by your OWN gray Warden not appearing in Awakening.   Oh wait.

They already had cannons when they invaded Thedas.

Well there you go, mages are basically artillery on the battlefield.  Better guns can do that job too.

As evident at how poorly a dead gray warden transfered. Coming back in the nude, old romances not adressed, characters who were dead actually somehow alive.

It was actually their deep distrust in magic wich forced the Q'Nari into the current truce
in the end - they would never have allowed one of their own magi to grow as powerful as
the circle magi and it was them who made all the difference on the battlefield....

That's what I mean.  The truce would only last as long as circle mages are more powerful than Q'Nari guns.  Once the Q'Nari figure out the next big advance in gun technology things could change in a big way.  That could easily be the new invention you mentioned.  There is a huge difference in the effectiveness of a smooth bore cannon that fires a rounded stone or metal ball to a rifled breech loader than fires an explosive shell.

Oh, you don't have to sell me on how bizzare and awkward the "continuation" was.    My point was simply that It really doesn't make  a difference whether a story character is dead or alive.  If Bioware has a plot in mind involving that character in their next game, he/she is going to  be there, regardless of  the past.

They did it *twice* in the BG series.  Take  Edwin, for example.  In BG1, I killed him because Minsc wanted me to..  Then I imported my character to BG2... and met up with him again...and killed him again... because Minsc wanted me to.  Then in throne of Bhaal. I was able to "call him back" with the pocket plane  statue thing.... and  have him in my party for the remainder of the game.Posted Image

Aren't there certain emotional/psychological requirements to become a general? Don't get me wrong, I like Sten and all, but lets face it not all the nurons were firing correctly in his head.

Take a military history course... long story short... nope. History is full of idiots or mad men being given battlefield control.

Qunari do not gain ranks. He is and will be an infantry platoon commander.

Otherwise he would change name at least.

History? As in Thedas history? Yes, I will look for that course, but in the meantime I stand by my statements.

Sten butchered a whole family due to sheer laziness. With minimal effort his problem was resolved. Not "General" material.

I smell burning ozone and sarcasm.

My point being if real life history is full of psycho/trigger happy/madmen military leaders (and still is), falling anyware from low ranking to kings, then it could sure as hell happen in a fantasy world. Unless the people and races of Thedas are far more sensible and sane then us. But considering they seem to be just as loony and prone to violence I'm sure this is not the case.

PS- Much of Thedas's people/races are inspired by real-life past cultures... so it's not like my point doesn't apply.
