My favorites were Alistair, Leliana, and Anders (in that order). I was also fond of Morrigan, Dog, and Wynne - though I wouldn't be heartbroken if I didn't see Dog and Wynne again.

I hope for a cameo here and there, but I really wouldn't mind if we waited until Dragon Age 3 to see them again more substantially. (I do hope at some point in the series we see and get to work with our old favorites)

Haha--sorry for the essential double-post, but I just re-read a lot of the answers and found even more "none" answers. A lot of people seem to go with "its the Warden's party, not Hawke's party" which is extremely puzzling to me.

It seems like Bioware is essentially pushing the Warden and his story aside--Who'd want to see those beloved party members pushed aside as well?

Personally new characters means new story threads so I'm always gonna side on the side of newness, but I appreciate the oldies

Wow...a lot of "none" answers. That's surprising, given the amount of love for returning members in, say, the Mass Effect games.

It's understandable though, since the main characters of these two games are changing, but for those who say none...not even a cameo? Or perhaps an influential story role (I'm looking at you two, Morrigan and Nathaniel)? I would love to see some of the fellas I came to know and love, you know, you re-immerse me in the Dragon Age universe, and not separate me from it with similar themes (ala the Final Fantasy Tactics games, for example).

The attachment to the notion of "the Warden's party, not Hawke's party" is puzzling to me, since it seems like Bioware is essentially pushing the Warden aside. Who'd want to see those beloved party members pushed aside as well?

I think DA:O had perhaps the best cast of companion characters in any RPG, including BG2 and PS:T, that I've played. Even so, I'd prefer if we got a new group of people for DA2. The group from DA:O is tied with the Warden, Hawke should have his/her own droogs. Even if Morrigan is in the game, she should be just an NPC.

With the same team writing them as in DA:O, I have high hopes for the new companions anyway...

None of them. I want a new cast, there's no point in seeing someone from someone else's past just to hear them talk about what happened, and then you can say "Yeah I know, I was the- oh wait."

I agree with the new cast part with two exceptions:
1) Dog - Or an equally funny, personable pooch

2) Shale - or an equally homicidal, cynical, wiseass golem

Morrigan, depending on if character imports work or not.. she was pregnant but not with the dark ritual and I wonder how that would work out. :P

Who do I want? Leliana, Alistair, Morrigan, Zevran, hell, EVERYBODY! (Oghren and Loghain to a much lesser extent than the others however)

Who do I expect? Morrigan. She's the only companion who really has even the slimest chance of returning as a playable character in 2.

With respect, you've got that a bit wrong, and I think that may be why all the "Nones," are kind of lost on you. The fact is, BioWare is *not* pushing the Warden's Story aside, in point of fact their doing quite a bit to make sure you're aware of what the Warden Commander accomplished in the form of ported saves which will dictate the state of the world when Hawke begins his/her long journey and will even create new dialogue choices with NPCs concerning the events of Origins. The Game Informer and German site articles have all the details on that.

That being said, the Warden's actions will be a big part of DA2, however this is Hawke's Story, not the WC's. If we had all this mention of the Warden's actions coupled with cameo upon cameo of the Warden's Companions it would just seem like Hawke was experiencing the Warden's story from simply a new perspective as opposed to it being a new, unique adventure. BioWare wants the player to remember and appreciate what they did via the Gray Warden in Origins, however they want these two Epic Adventures to stand apart, to be recalled as individual events. And, as many of the answers show, so to do the players who have already undergone the Warden's journey and now want to go on a new one with a new Hero and new Companions. Hope that paints a better picture even though I don't speak for everyone.

Morrigan and Nathaniel make the most sense to me, but I would mind seeing Anders again. He was sort of adorable, in an irritating sort of way.

It would be cool if there was a part in which you find your Warden from DA1 doing whatever he/she said they were going to do at the end of Origins.

None of them, I like new characters and cameos are a bit too much like pop culture references for me; takes me out of the experience. After all its not like Hawke will actually know any of these people...

Eh, I see what you mean--where sometimes it just comes out of the blue and you have no reason to talk to this person--but at the same time, I still like seeing what they're up to now.

Hmm, maybe I should mention that in another thread, I said I would love to see a cameo of Nathaniel. It'd make sense at least, as he was in Kirkwall (IIRC) for a while.

He does say at one point (if you click on him) that all this travelling reminds him of that one year in Kirkwall.  A hint, maybe?

Morrigan and Oghren but only as cameos with the warden

Well...with respect to Oghren, he was unkillable in DA:O, but it is possible for him to die in one of DA:A's epilogues.

Since there is some overlap between the two games, it is *possible* to see familiar faces in the early game (the game apparently starts in Lothering), but hopefully cameos wouldn't be overused, either.

You can kill Oghren u just need to ****** him off then you need to keep him to stay then talk to him again while pissed and call him a sissy.

Do I want DAO and DAA party members in Hawke's party?

Short answer: No.

Long answer: I won't mind Hawke having his/her own mabari companion. Think of Dogmeat from the Fallout series. As for the rest, I prefer cameos. They won't recognize you as an old peer or lover because you're Hawke, not the Warden. Everything starts back at zero. The writers better have a good reason why a companion reappears in DA2 to join Hawke post-Lothering if it meant leaving the Warden for a time.

Having said this, I can imagine Morrigan joining Hawke's party towards the latter part of the game. Since Flemeth is returning in DA2, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to have one trying to get Hawke to stop the other. Perhaps it could work like Samara-Morinth in ME2? :? At times like this, I guess it's better to pick up Mass Effect than watch your brother do his playthrough.

Maybe I misspoke then. I don't mean "pushed aside" as in he never existed, or his story holds no significance in the DA 2 world. I merely meant that the WC's story is being pushed aside for Hawke's story, as Bioware has made sure to mention on various occassions. Of course there'll be references and a few differences within each player's worlds due to what their WC did, but really, how much can the WC's influence be on a land that isn't even Ferelden, much less a land far away from Ferelden?

I'm sure that from a programming standpoint, Bioware made sure that the game would take place on a different continent, so the variability within games wouldn't be too insane. In that sense, while they haven't forgotten his/her story, doesn't it seem like they've pushed the Warden aside for Hawke? Thus, why push away the party members we loved so as well?

The Free Marches aren't far from Ferelden.  They are just north, across a narrow sea.  Kirkwall is as close as it gets to Ferelden, pretty much.

None. As people already pointed out, Hawke wouldn't recognize my Warden's old companions and I don't want to talk to them as if they were complete strangers. So no companions.
Of course we all expect to see Morrigan, but I wouldn't mind her not appearing in DA2. I'd rather play an DA:O expansion in which my male Warden could eventually find Morrigan after she went west. Other companions might be mentioned - i.e. Alistair, if you made him king, or Sten (I want the qunari invasion!). It would be great to hear about my Warden roaming the countryside with Leliana (or Zevran, or doing whatever was chosen during the campaign in Origins).

I wonder what people would do if your Warden's Love Interest returned in DA2 and was also Romancable by Hawke.  I wonder if they'd cheat on you lol
