Hi gizmert, I'll need more info than that. What operating system, what precisely are you doing to trigger a crash, have you tried a fresh install of the game (backing up your save games of course!), is it in DA:O or Awakening or both, do you have mods installed, etc..?

Thanks much.

I have the same problem as Gizmert, the game crashes back to desktop every 20 mins or so and on top of it none of my DLCs works, it tells me that I need to sign into my Bioware account, when I sign into it nothing happens. I still get the message that there is a content and only the owner must sign to verify the content....I have no mods, no tinkerings in the game, just DLCs that worked perfect, before the patch 1.03 the game hardly ever crashed...after the patch I have to play it on one core with poor graphics. Thanks for your help...i tried signing in with my firewall disabled, it made no difference, I have Dragon Age origin, Awakening, and most DLCs.

Im crashing as well now while it did no such thing with 1.00 that I previously used.

I'm in the circle of Magi, going into a room to trigger a fight with abominations. When I start to battle with them, I crash to desktop

Win7 64 bit
4GB RAM
Geforce 8800 GTX

I got past it by fighting in another room (By luring them) and not using spells at all from Wynne.

The issues I am experiencing are identical to the ones I was experiencing after the 1.03 patch, in identical places and with identical 'triggers'.
In general, the crashes seem to occur when using AOE spells, in particular (but not limited to) mana clash. Now i know the simple solution, before anyone suggests it, is to not use mana clash. However, although certain things have a higher chance of triggering a crash, as I said, the crashes are not limited to these actions.

I have the most recent drivers for all components of my PC and have no external mods installed. I have most of the DLC as well as Awakening.

OS: Windows 7 Pro 32bit
Motherboards: Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P
GFX Card: ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series (DX 10 installed)
Memory: 4 GB DDR2

If there's anything else you need to know, please let me know.

Have uninstalled and reinstalled everything and the crashing to desktop is still occouring.

Nathan Willis, presumably you have the game installed on a computer you have access to, have you experienced the CTD issue as people experiencing these issues have very little out of the ordinary about their system configuration?

I'm still having the crashing issues. Didn't have them prior to 1.03 which seems to be the consensus here. System specs are as follows:

Windows 7 64 bit

ASUS M4A78T-E motherboard using onboard sound

AMD Phenom X3 2.6GHz triple-core processor

CORSAIR 4GB DDR3 RAM

EVGA NVIDIA GTX 285 1GB GPU

Hope this info helps in making a fix! I really want to play your awesome game!

I've had semi-random in combat CTD problems since I updated to 1.03. I haven't really tried anything to fix it, but I figured I'd just throw that out there since the minor things I've done haven't helped. My specs are pulled straight off of detection on Xfire since I didn't build this machine, my father did.

Edit: Specs took up way too much space. http://www.xfire.com...e/rpgplayer713/ instead. Sorry for inconvenience.:pinched:

System: Vista Ultimate x64, RAM 4GB 800MHz, AMD Phenom x3, 2.1Ghz, NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT, newest nvidia display driver, 33GB free hard drive space, Sound Blaster X-Fi extreme audio

You should expect difficulty from attempting to use a below-minimum video card -- it needs to run at Low Resolutions and Low Image Quality settings (unless you enjoy it being slow), and is probably getting overheated.  You really should have bought a gaming graphics card instead of a business grade card.

hey kids, Nathan told me to check if DAupdater service is running...sure 'nuff that was my prob - after enabling it (and logging in) all my dlc became authorised and is functioning. THX Nathan!

ok maybe patch 1.04 doesn't fix everything but I'm just glad that someone is still trying to fix DA issues - was beginning to think that everyone was hard at work on Dragon Effect (aka DA2).

BioWare folk - please don't forget yr roots - try to have at least one OLD SKOOL D&D type rpg as a current project - get the DA engine perfect then just keep releasing dlc - WE"LL BUY IT!!

It's not the fact that patch 1.04 doesn't fix everything, it is that it doesn't make the game playable again. As it stands the game is unplayable. It's unusual to go through more than 2-3 encounters without a CTD. It become tedious replaying the same set of mobs again everything 5 minutes. It's truely a waste of what should be a fun and enjoyable game.

It IS a fun and enjoyable game...at least for me. Sorry to hear yr having so many ctd's Gizmert - I played all of Origins (and I'm thorough - like 60+ hours) and I had maybe 3-4 ctd's for the whole game!

And yeah I had Warden's Keep/Ostagar etc. I played on a laptop (core2duo/Nvidia g210m /4gb/Win7prof). I had just bought the laptop and DA was the FIRST program I installed (and on a separate partition as well) - seems like I got lucky... was not my intention to be dismissive of folks experiencing game-breaking bugs.

Incidentally I do believe my warden is more attractive than your warden ;)

Er, another thing I should add about me running the game, I'm running it with both steam and xfire, however disabling one or the other usually fixes nothing. Just in case though, figured I'd throw that out there.

I know you weren't being dismissive Mitsuru, it seems people are suffering varying degrees of instability. Up until installing Awakening and 1.03, I had had no problems with the game whatsoever. Infact, in my first 7-8 run throughs of the game, I do not recall it becoming unstable once. I experienced the load time increases, but that was always a nice oppertunity to get some coffee.

Despite there being varying degrees of instability, from computer to computer, there doesn't seem to be any obvious physical of software factor linking these PC. At first glance anyway...

OK I get slagged off everytime I open my mouth but here goes. I patched to 1.04. I run Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I do not think it is a problem with Windows, but I have been playing with it, I am limited with time. I think it has something to do with Security. I think it is network response time and certificate verification in the transfer of data to Bioware servers. That is why you take a long time to get your Downloaded Content Verified, it also updates during game play, hence the crash to desktop.

I am Network Certified and Security Certified, also an MCSA and hardware cerrtified. I have seen these type of problems before. Still playing, but I have a limited time to do it.

Nothing to do with the servers, there is still a major memory leak in the game, more so with specific spells and attacks.

Upto 1.02a the only major drawback was the increased decrease in performance due to the memory leak, since 1.03 whatever they tried to do to circumvent it (not fixing it IMHO) has made it worse as has 1.04.

For most people will go back to 1.02a but those with Awakening and later DLC's they are in a nasty spot being unable to play for a lengthy time after being hit with 5 - 20 minute CTD's.

Makes me wary of upcoming products. 9 months to fix one memory leak is very bad, or I should say 9 months and no fix.

To be fair, the crashing is highly specific to your party. If you avoid using certain skills then you'll never see crashes, but using Mana Clash and Holy Smite are almost guaranteed to crash the game 50% of the time.  If you have other issues with stability in the game, it's likely related to your system and/or driver configuration.

Network monitor shows it is waiting for response during load. That is why when you start the game it will not get past the screen telling you about the downloaded content. Also during the game, the network monitor shows that the crash to desktop coincides with network ativity to servers.

I am running my PC's on a LAN with Windows 2003 server. The server monitors the network links and shows the activity. Try running Network Monitor and reviewing the saved logs.

Some people are refering to a differnet problem, which I have not seens

Network monitor shows it is waiting for response during load. That is why when you start the game it will not get past the screen telling you about the downloaded content. Also during the game, the network monitor shows that the crash to desktop coincides with network ativity to servers.
I am running my PC's on a LAN with Windows 2003 server. The server monitors the network links and shows the activity. Try running Network Monitor and reviewing the saved logs.
Some people are refering to a differnet problem, which I have not seens

The Networking problem you have doesn't necessarily mean it will be for everyone else. May be an isolated case for yourself and perhaps a handful of others.

For most people it is a memory leak which causes mass CTD's with specific spells and skills. Has been like that since 1.03, whatever they tried to do with limiting graphic data between loads has resulted in a very unstable engine.

The game itself if you are logged into your account and playing will periodically check the servers online and if need be send information on achievements etc, also checking DLC's being genuine if they are still not authenticated (since 1.04 this is every start up of the game now).

Well, as with everyone else in this thread so far, I have experienced BOTH problems. Before patch 1.04, (I was originally running 1.00) there were absolutely NO problems at all; after installing the patch, however, I started getting the abnormally long "verifying account login" problems right at start-up, where even though I am logged in to the server, the game keeps saying I am not and need to.

Secondly, it has become apparent that using the basic FIREBALL also crashes my game; i have experienced this phenomenon twice, both times when i start charging up the aforementioned AOE spell.
So, I'm guessing that there is no "fix" for the problems as of yet?

To be fair, the crashing is highly specific to your party. If you avoid using certain skills then you'll never see crashes, but using Mana Clash and Holy Smite are almost guaranteed to crash the game 50% of the time.  If you have other issues with stability in the game, it's likely related to your system and/or driver configuration.

Searanox. You are wrong. How can you make such a wild conclusion when the same PC worked beautifully with patch 1.02a?

I say, it is likely most definitely related to subsequent fixes after 1.02a. Let's not forget that most gamers report that DA is the only game that is not working.

I certainly haven't experienced any crashes beyond a few very specific ones, and most of the people who report issues with the game that I see on this forum tend to have problems with drivers, Windows updates, hardware dying, or are running the game at minimum specification or below.  I can't say this is the case for everybody - I'm sure there are a few who experience issues with the newer patches, even if their computers are fully functional.  However, it is worth pointing out that just because only one game has problems doesn't mean it's the game's fault - this is often a sign there is a hardware problem that the game just happens to trigger.  For example, many gamers overclock their system, but don't do extensive stability tests, and as a result tend to blame the games rather than their overclock - just because it works 99% of the time doesn't mean it's flawless.  The same goes for possible hardware failures as well - in the past I've had video cards which began to artifact only while playing certain games.  This wasn't the game's fault; it was simply that those particular games made use of various operations that exposed the problems in my hardware.

As I said, I do have crashes, but they are fully reproducible and not random as far as I can tell.  If someone is having random crashes to desktop, blue screens, or similar, then it's more likely to be a problem with a specific configuration than with the game at a fundamental level.  Sometimes, fixes can be as simple as running the game as an administrator, or reinstalling it.  If it works on the most common system setups after a clean Windows installation, then the only other variable is whatever else is unique about that system configuration.
