Also, have you updated your nVidia drivers? Newest version is 258.96.

After installing patch 1.04 most of the effects that grant a bonus other that stat improvement simply don't work until an item that grants them is unequipped and reequipped. It has to be repeated after every loading screen or game reload (it is deffinately so at least with the increased monetary gain effect. Money I find suddenly decresed, but returns back to normal when I reequip an item that grants it.).
The sound driver related crashes stopped tough and my thanks for that.
I still had crashes tough until I incresed a number of pre-rendered frames on nvidia control panel. The higher the number the fewer the crashes.
There still are memory leakages, tough restarting a game now and then and return to the world of the living shurly isn't anything that dire.

Always during dialogue cutscenes, generally voice starts stuttering for a second, screen goes black, dumps to desktop. Three cutscenes where I've had it go off are 1) The meeting with king Alistair 2) with the First after getting transported to the Fade and 3) after putting down the peasant revolt. Not repeatable, but I've been skipping the scenes on the 2nd attempt. I'm wondering if these are all automatic screen capture locations as well?
Rig XP Pro on an early 2010 Mac Mini w. Nvidia 320m/4gb/HDMI multichannel audio (Cirrus, I thinkg). Obviously a problem-prone system, considering novelty, manufacturer and HDMI.
The patch seems to have solved my EA digital download booting issues, so cheers for that!

You should expect difficulty from attempting to use a below-minimum video card -- it needs to run at Low Resolutions and Low Image Quality settings (unless you enjoy it being slow), and is probably getting overheated. You really should have bought a gaming graphics card instead of a business grade card.Inavette wrote...
I have the same problem as Gizmert, the game crashes back to desktop every 20 mins or so and on top of it none of my DLCs works, it tells me that I need to sign into my Bioware account, when I sign into it nothing happens. I still get the message that there is a content and only the owner must sign to verify the content....I have no mods, no tinkerings in the game, just DLCs that worked perfect, before the patch 1.03 the game hardly ever crashed...after the patch I have to play it on one core with poor graphics. Thanks for your help...i tried signing in with my firewall disabled, it made no difference, I have Dragon Age origin, Awakening, and most DLCs.
System: Vista Ultimate x64, RAM 4GB 800MHz, AMD Phenom x3, 2.1Ghz, NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT, newest nvidia display driver, 33GB free hard drive space, Sound Blaster X-Fi extreme audio
Or maybe by 2010 Bioware's code should handle a below par video card better than simply crashing to desktop with no explaination?
Running slowly? Fine.
Refusing to work and showing an error message saying "You're graphics card is not good enough"? Fine.
Raising min reqs? Fine.
Big crayon lettered words in the manual? Fine.
Almost anything but a meaningless (to many people) crash.

Simple fix for this
Dont use the bad patch 1.04
Dont use the bad patch 1.03
dont use the bad patch 1.02
dont use the bad patch 1.01
oh wait a sec
dont play this game it has had problems from day one.
I just came back to this install patch 1.04 and low and behold it ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, dosnt work.
No suprise.
Thanks again EA Games you realy know how to make games suck.
Thanks Bioware you make great games, but dont have a clue how to market them so you leave that up to EA to totaly ruin the support for it.
I had less problems with the 1.03 patch, although its still realy laggy in ozamar and a few other places. 1.04 mad this problem worse from the get go. I guess ill spend the next 3 hr's uninstalling, and then reinstalling both orgins and awakinings, then redownloading eveything. And not installing the 1.04 patch, 1.03 is just fine, even with all its problems. 1.04 only if you enjoy quaffing a heal potion and dieing because the lag is so bad the heal didnt land. or even better the lag is so bad you have to reboot the cpu just to load a hut again, or sit there for a hr waiting for it to load flem's hut again. I think you just took the 1.02b patch and fluffed it up.
And to top it off we cant wait for DA2, ya right. if it takes me 30 min just to load a hut in da1, da2 will take a week just to load the main screen. ( i have seen pre windows cpus load stuff faster than this game dose )

While I certainly agree in principle, I blame the marketing honchos from ATI and nVIDIA for purposely making the relative performance levels of their products difficult to understand!ShinsFortress wrote...

I would also, if I was an EA Marketing boss, start to use some common benchmark, and stop naming the cards themselves, just the minimum scores on the chosen benchmark that the cards should get.

i5 quad core processor at 2.67 GHz.
2G RAM.
Windows 7 64 bit
ATI Radeon HD 4600 series.
Bought Dragon Age Origins 2 weeks ago. Played it up till last Thursday 22-07-2010
Version 1.0
Mods: Blood Dragon armor. The Stone Prisoner.
Unofficial mods: Extra Dog slot v 1.41. A texture override to 'spice' up the game a bit.
No issues.
Sunday 25-07-2010
Bought Dragon Age Awakenings and downloaded patch 1.04.
Same mods.
Result: Crash to desktop every 5-10 minutes. Graphic intensity does NOT seem to be the problem.
Current:
Cleared all. Running Origins and Awakenings. v 1.03.
Result: Still CTD every 5-10 minutes.
Conclusion. I spent 20 euro's to buy a broken game.
Off course, I could remove all again and simply run Origins without DLC and awakenings, but my save files would be corrupted. Origins just had some exploit bugs while Awakenings causes CTD's.
What was the saying again? Don't fix what isn't broke?

One thing that people rarely look at is the quality/status of their power supply and/or memory issues. Also, heating is a big issue as well.
Not saying the game doesn't have it's issues, but I can't see the point in blaming AOE spells for crashing the game. I use Mana Clash and holy smite quite often without a crash.
My system is quite plain. Win 7 x64, fully updated, ATI 4890 with latest driver, ASUS motherboard, 4gb RAM (Crucial), 700watt ANTEC power supply, system temp is quite cool. Hard drive is defraged and I don't have antivirus or other game unfriendly software running in the background.
I think some folks need to do a little troubleshooting on their systems. It is part of PC gaming, folks. Otherwise, your best bet is to get a console and be done with it.

I think people should really look into their hardware configuration and disable some things there in advanced options. All graphic cards have some advanced options nowerdays. At least everyone who has NVIDIA and it's control panel. Go into 3D and meddle withe the features. And don't choose "application controlled" if DA doesn't have the feature specifically excuded for change in the menu. Heck the graphic options can even be saved and linked to a specific .exe file, so you don't even have to change them playing a game every time.
True. DA should have those options in it's menu... It shouldn't cause problems in the first place. But alas... It is virtually impossible to make an application without errors. You do need to ceck them, yes... But DA i sort of new in the area of multiple choices and their concequences. There are many possibilities. To check all of them on all sorts of equipment before the realease of the game, or until the days before virtual reality games are common is impossible.
So you can either complain and by that help write patches, or do something about it yourselves. And I'm not talking about hacking the game. Just taking care of your machine a little. (altough cracked DA copies and patches have far less bugs if any as far as I know, maybe they should start hiring pirates for an honest living for a change.)

And yeah, it's dragon age that's causing the crashes. Maybe in combination with certain hardware but personally I don't experience crashes in any other games I currently play so
The game worked just fine in 1.03 with no crashes at all, have a billion addons but no awakening. Then I upgraded to 1.04 because I read it'd be good for some mem. leaks and random stuff.
Then bam, start crashing around 10 minutes into gameplay. Anyone found a more precise cause for this yet, no?

1.04 fixed that, but the memory leak is still there for me as well. It gets worse the more I progress through the game. First fourth of the game I won't have to restart the game at all, but by the last fourth or so, I would say a restart is required every hour.
I run vista64, 9850 phenom, 780g mobo, 4 gigs of ram, 4850 radeon, and sata 250gig hd, all hooked up to a 850w psu.

I couldn't play the game at all on 1.03. It would crash just on the menu screen lol. Believe it was a driver crash of sorts, because the screen would go nuts, monitor would go into stand by, then the sound would lock, and my pc would reboot.

The crashing you outline under 1.03 basically outlines what a poor driver can do to your system.
And to the other person who mentioned other games run great...just because game A runs does not necessarily mean game B will. And, that isn't always the fault of the game. I am not being an apologist, just a realist here. All too often, sloppy or poorly written drivers cause app crashes. System reboots are a telling sign that something other then the game is wrong with your system. The game just may be magnifying the issue because it is affected.

I've beta tested two games this year that never crashed, never slowed down, and as they were beta tests, I didn't pay 1 cent for them either. Not too surprisingly I own both of them now.
I got DA in pre-release (from Bioware's history.....so many good games over the years....), but I'm sure not getting any of the overly priced addons for a broken game.
I've given up looking for fixes. That is Biowares job. When I release my own software to the people that pay for it, I don't expect them to do the troubleshooting, bug finding and problem resolution. That is the job of the developer.
Its so sad to see such a good company (Bioware) dwindle away to nothing......but it has taught me to never ever buy an EA game in the rest of my life.

I uninstalled eveything about this game.
DIDN'T Install the crappy 1.04 patch and went back to 1.03
Oh wow, it works. but I still have the probls that come with the 1.03 patch.
Remind me what was the point of the 1.04 patch? All I have seen is it has made eveything worse.
At least the 1.03 patch had a reason, and that was to get the game ready for the expansion. The 1.04 patch was just done to ****** most of us off because we had to totaly uninstall the game and reload it and all the DLC as well.
Like most of us I too did the 1.04 patch and in 10min it felt like i was playing with the old 1.02a game once again.
Now im over 30hr's into the game and no problems.
Dont tease me anymore. all your going to do is make me get out the spoon and dig out my panties. I hate getten them all in bunch.
