Patch 1.04 fixes nothing

Now on top of what I had previously, I am getting random crashes lol. I just can't win...
Something else I have noticed. I have this program called cleanmem. It is a simple program that to my understanding just cleans the memory of processes that are no longer being used. This cuts down on vista's memory hog tendencies by a ton. To give an example. Fresh install of vista, will eat a gig of memory. With the program on, it is somewhere between 5-600megs of memory.
Now the strange part I don't understand is this. If I play for awhile without cleanmem on, my memory usage will rise over time, and the game will start slowing down. But if I install cleanmem, my memory usage never seems to go above 1.4gigs and it still slows down with time. So if this issue occurs with or without a bunch of memory being used, what does that mean the issue is? Is it still considered a leak like others have mentioned? If it is, I don't understand how it could be if I can get my memory to stay consistent.

Running without Awakenings atm though - still waiting for the bugs to get squished.

But I never got it out to test DA on it, because I would need to change the video card to run Medium or better textures. It has a Radeon X850 XTP card now. I would have thought that a still much lesser powered CPU than my own would just choke.
(Have I commented along those lines last fall, if you've mentioned such an antique as that before?)

Well since it hadn't been done for awhile now, I ended up reformatting my drive. Got all the important windows updates, and installed my drivers, then installed steam/dragon age first.

You need to study more about how Vista utilizes memory. It is an untrue generalization that Vista is a "memory hog." Here is an excellent explanation for you:

See #5 in the article.
It's a great article for Vista haters who really never took the time to experiment or understand the OS and just base their opinions off of marketing and other faulty premises.

I have the same problem as Gizmert, the game crashes back to desktop every 20 mins or so and on top of it none of my DLCs works, it tells me that I need to sign into my Bioware account, when I sign into it nothing happens. I still get the message that there is a content and only the owner must sign to verify the content....I have no mods, no tinkerings in the game, just DLCs that worked perfect, before the patch 1.03 the game hardly ever crashed...after the patch I have to play it on one core with poor graphics. Thanks for your help...i tried signing in with my firewall disabled, it made no difference, I have Dragon Age origin, Awakening, and most DLCs.
System: Vista Ultimate x64, RAM 4GB 800MHz, AMD Phenom x3, 2.1Ghz, NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT, newest nvidia display driver, 33GB free hard drive space, Sound Blaster X-Fi extreme audio

You should expect difficulty from attempting to use a below-minimum video card -- it needs to run at Low Resolutions and Low Image Quality settings (unless you enjoy it being slow), and is probably getting overheated. You really should have bought a gaming graphics card instead of a business grade card.
No, I don't think the graphics card is to blame, I played DA around twice once as a mage and then as a warrior before the the 1.03 patch and never had any problems, the game was rock solid. After the installation of 1.03 and Awakening the problems started. I don't crash at all when I change the affinity on my CPU to only one core, can go for 10 hours straight with the same graphics card but the graphics are not really pretty that way. I play other games on it like Assassin's Creed and all is fine.

Oh yeah. And update your drivers people. From what I've seen most of you use 64x systems. I use x86 because the world isn't yet ready for 64 bit systems I fear. Mostly becouse 64 bit system drivers suck. They cause lots of crashes. So if you want compilation, video quality and sound and video makeover 64 bit it is... But for games and coll equipment... 32 bit. Some hardware doesn't even have 64x drivers, and some applications don't work properly in 64x mode (unless you place them in "Program files (32x)" (or something like that) folder and they work in emulation mode - slower but safer. I don't know about DA itself but all the drivers that are use by DA may cause the crashes in 64 bit systems.
Quite agree. I still run a 32-bit OS (Vista Ultimate) and have few gaming problems. All of the bugs I have experienced with Dragon age are game related. It is particularly vexing that there is still a certain area effect bug as well as set items missing. Personally, I won't be buying anymore Bioware goodies until Dragon Age has the basic bugs fixed. I don't necessarily expect Bioware to do Microsoft, ATI or NVidia's jobs for them, but it's not exactly done a great job of keeping it's own house in order either.

I don't agree with gratuitous spamming, personally. Bioware already know what the situation is (duh!?). There are other ways to influence. Me? I have voted with my wallet. Not bought any more Bioware (or EA for that matter) products until this one works the way it should.

I have a hard time buying all the people here who have crashes on their systems blaming the game. I have had the game crash on my ONE TIME since I bought it on release, and have all the DLC, and patches. The only thing is that I keep all my drivers up to date, keep a clean installation of Windows (also up to date) and don't use any unofficial game "mods".
One thing that people rarely look at is the quality/status of their power supply and/or memory issues. Also, heating is a big issue as well.
Not saying the game doesn't have it's issues, but I can't see the point in blaming AOE spells for crashing the game. I use Mana Clash and holy smite quite often without a crash.
My system is quite plain. Win 7 x64, fully updated, ATI 4890 with latest driver, ASUS motherboard, 4gb RAM (Crucial), 700watt ANTEC power supply, system temp is quite cool. Hard drive is defraged and I don't have antivirus or other game unfriendly software running in the background.
I think some folks need to do a little troubleshooting on their systems. It is part of PC gaming, folks. Otherwise, your best bet is to get a console and be done with it.
I am bothered by this post. They fail to see that just because something isn't happening to them, the problem doesn't exist the way others describe it. Everyone else must be ignorant or unskilled, and must be blamed.
Guess what? I'm having crashes. I have all my drivers up to date, all dlc, and the current patched version. I have yet to use a game mod, but look forward too in the future. When I update drivers, I uninstall, wipe and clean the previous ones used. Then install the new ones afterwards. I clean out my Windows registry, and only use windows for gaming actually. So I don't install and uninstall random programs within windows other than video games.
Guess what? I'm using quality hardware components in a computer that I built myself. Just like I have always done since I started building for myself and others in 1992. Just like this posters, my power supply is ANTEC and my memory is Crucial. Same two brands. My case has a full mesh front, three 140mm fans, and two 120mm fans. I also have a Artic Cooling heatsink and fan on my processor. It's all set up in a push/pull airflow. My PSU is mounted at the bottom of my case, and doesn't pull air from the inside of the case, or dump air back into it.
Guess what? My system is quite plain too. Win 7 x64, fully updated, ATI 5770 with latest driver, ASUS
motherboard, 4gb RAM (Crucial), 750watt ANTEC power supply, system temp
is quite cool. Hard drive is defraged and I don't have antivirus or
other game unfriendly software running in the background. (So similar I pretty much copied and pasted his here too. And changed to reflect my specs.)
I think folks should do a little troubleshooting with their logic. This whole, "I don't have any problems, everyone else is a simpleton and knows much less than I do" sort of egotism is a fallacy.
These problems seem to have been brought about when the 1.03 patch was installed. And continue to persist today since then. It has never been fixed. Over on the steam forums, people are experiencing the same thing. That is where I came from actually.
People with Nvidia and ATI cards, with older (this thread is half a year old) and current drivers are affected. Intel and AMD processors too(like it matters). I read some post that multi-core processors may be an issue. 64bit is not.
I tried setting my GPU drivers to application controlled for its settings. Disabling Frame buffered effects. Disabling Multiple Rendering Targets. Disabling Aspect-Ratio Correction. Forcing Stereo Sound. Turning Verticle Sync off. Playing windowed and full screen. Running as Admin. With various combinations.
I'm recieving crashes during combat. I noticed that it may only be when I
am fighting against Demons. Like the sloth, and desire demons for
example. I never experienced crashes before I fought against a demon.
My
first crash was when I battled that little boy possessed by a desire
demon, him wanting to save his father. Sorry, I can't remember their
names. (EDIT: I think this is at ser perth)
I couldn't even finish
it, and decided to goto the mages tower next, since it's still part of
the quest. Well now I'm crashing constantly in there. Also, nothing but
demons.
I met a sloth demon, which sent me to his dream world. Yep, way more crashes.
AMD Phenom II x3 740 3ghz
Sapphire 5770 ATI GPU
750 watt ANTEC New True Power PSU
ASUS M4A785TD-V Motherboard
4gb 1600 Crucial Memory
Creative X-FI Gamer Sound Card
As of december of 2010, all my drivers, bios, firmware are up to date in ALL my computer components.
This
includes ATI Catalyst 10.12 drivers. I uninstall previous drivers, use a
driver cleaner, and then install the newest driver directly from AMD's
website.

Was your game already patched to 1.04 from before? Is yours a retail copy, or a steam copy? Where you experiencing problems before you clicked on the 1.04.exe patch? When you say you now have it working, do you mean it fixed your problems from before you patched?

Forgot to add, although its over 70 pages, if you dig hard enough or refine your searches you can find some places to start out with in that thread.
