No, NOT to big a deal. But making a deal of it is perfectly justified, because already now, it is so obviously that Hawke is male, that I'm already thoroughly bored when I'm told He can be female. Yeah right. As female as Femshep. Oh well. Maybe somebody else will make a game where you can actually make your own protagonist.
What's wrong with Femshep. My paragade vanguard blonde female from the intergalactic colonies would kick your **** with her biotics. And btw, I'm definitely trying DA2 as a lady as well. Probably on my second playthrough. But I'm doin'it.
In ME2 there's that wrong that she is excactly as maleshep. She walks like him, litterally, which looks awful. She talks like him. There's no difference, except for her... errr... romances, where she can choose between a wet blanket, a green emokid, and an insectoid alien. I was soooo in awe how well she was developed and how distinctly different she was from Maleshep. The only good thing about her was JH's voiceacting.
You make a very good point, i never thought of it that way, i have never played MA but i can see what you mean, sure you might be able to make your character LOOK female but that doesnt necessarily make her act like one.

What do you mean by that?
In any case, what people think about ME is probably irrelevant because Hawke is, as per the developers, a much less defined character than Shepard.

However, the developers also claim that cake is better than pie, which we all know to be a falsehood.
Pie > Cake.
Therefore Hawke is not necessarily less defined than Shepard. Hawke may even be more similar to cake.

I suppose this can be boiled down to one question on my part: Just how many games in the DA franchise will allow us to import our saved game from Origins?
I don't expect the developers themselves to know this specifically, but the podcast stated that the story of Our Warden in Origins and Awakening was, as mentioned, the genesis of many stories, not just Hawke's. That's a concept I find... intriguing. Origins indeed.
In that sense, I no longer see the (from my perspective) rather goofy art design with the blocky and spiky armor (sorry... just don't much like big spikes or oversized weapons) as anything more than an idiosyncrasy of this one game and as such, and not necessarily that THIS IS WHAT BIOWARE GAMES LOOK LIKE NOW.
I suppose, though, that as a corollary of that first question, I might think that Hawke's story (DA2) won't have the same number of jumping off points as Origins, otherwise you'd get into the same bifurcation issue that results from too many branches in a single story: length vs. breadth. Will DA2 be more "self contained" as well, with a more pre-determined protagonist to match?
Will admit to be curious.

Really would like to hear more, A LOT MORE, about Free Marches and the story in next one.

I suppose not, since I understand where you're comming from. But I would prefer grammatically correct over politically correct. As I said, the idea of doing it the other way around irks me.Deviija wrote...
If you truly do understand my concern and where I'm coming from with my previous remark, then I really do not need to make a response.the_one_54321 wrote...
While I understand your concern with this, you do realize that such word usage is technically grammatically incorrect? The correct grammar is to assume the gender of the speaker. Not that it really matters, but it is something that irks me just a bit, there being people deliberately calling for poorer grammar in the marketing.

Though it would be nice for Victor to tone down on the "Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh" speckled in every single sentence. It made me cringe. Just saying.

Story sounds ambitious. (And fun.) Combat sounds interesting. I can't quite picture it though. Sounds a little scary if the enemies are as "reactive" as friendly troops. I sense my space bar is going to get a workout. (I'm more of a micromanager than utiliser of tactics menu.)
Also, blizzard + tempest?!? I'm going to have to go try that right now.

It would be nice to have seperate character animations for male & female characters, however such a thing will take up more development time & cost as well as disc space, I admit that as someone who plays both Male & Female characters in ME the Female animations do look bizarre, especially with the Kasumi dress, that ain't ladylike.

The combat info started out being a little scary (like push A to swing sword) but the picture recovered into a more animated (?) DAO combat system. Keep up the trickle of *positive* info!

Glad to hear some info on combat and the wierd shuffling forward slowly and get into position to attack someone is getting changed
Im glad that the whole Origins being a springboard for more storys/game/sequals was confirmed. It was something i had thought about after reading info on DA2 not being a typical sequel, and i applaud that decision
Only thing that concerns me is what seems to be a limited develpment timeframe considering the advertised release date, and EAs less than spectacular record. But i have faith in Bioware.
