Say Bioware gives the signal for a sequel and they decide to put a wheel in the game for dialogue what would your opinion be on this matter?

Heres the positive aspects of a wheel. A more engaged story to hear your character talk. It gives the company more of a chance of making the game quicker which saves money in the long run. I kind of like the idea of maybe bioware making a wheel mechanic in JE 2 if they ever make it.

If JE2 keeps a similar story setting like JE (limited number of protagonist choice) I suppose it could work (two voice actors: one for female and one for male), but people will always complain about it somehow.

If they do do the conversation wheel, is there going to be an option to speak in Tho Fan?

Considering that Jade Empire used pre-made characters with very little customization, a dialogue wheel wouldn't have been that far out of the realm. ME in a way was the next extension from the path of JE. I suppose you would have had to have limited the options in comparison to the original, but if you use the ME template where you can customize the character you'll end up with more options anyway.

Also if your character would speak in Tho Fan as suggested that would be great, but I don't think Bioware would be that radical in thought should we ever see a JE 2.

I think a new Jade Empire would be more action due to the Martial Arts in combat based RPG than typical Baldurs Gate. So I think a cinematic approach would be nice for Jade Empire universe as it is a pretty realm with interesting colors, people, beings, and architecture. With that said I wouldnt want Jade Empire 2 called Jade Empire 2, it should be a spiritual successor to Jade Empire 1 and be called something else entirely with fan boy references to Jade Empire 1. that way they could build a new trilogy if they wanted to.

To answer your wheel based convo question without going off more tangents, I would say it wouldnt bother me at all. In fact it would be cool to see if there were two male voices to "choose" from and two "female" voices to choose from depending on whether you were a heavy hitter (deeper voice) or a quick footed fighter (regular voice). I think CINEMATIC is the way to go with Jade Empire setting and voice over wheel conversations fit better (may draw back on dialog options, but thats debatable).

Jade Empire already had ditched much of what I consider cRPG staples so...

going full cinematic, with only a male / female difference in MC (as well as martial arts styles, but that doesn't affect story hardly at all), would fit Jade Empire.

But Jade Empire was barely ever worthy of the title RPG. Action RPG, just maybe. It was inches away from an action adventure game.

I'd have no problem with a wheel; it makes sense in that unlike DA for example you're not going to be picking a Human/elf/dwarf/whatever.

Might also make it easier for the user and developers to focus on the Open Hand/Closed Fist philosophies in conversation as well.

Jade Empire was a console game, like KotOR ended up being and like Mass Effect is. Super-simplifying the controls and making the games more "cinematic" and all that jazz is just what you do with console games.

The mechanics make sense, and would not be a far departure from the soul of the Jade Empire game.

DAO is a whole other kettle of fish.

dialog wheel > dialog tree, I would be disappointed if JE2 didn't have the wheel + interrupts.

I'm glad people see it as I do so far. IT only makes sense mostly because it would be easier to make and Bioware would be able to make a better story with it. They might also have more money at the end of the project for marketing which is what Jade Empire 2 would really need in the long run.

The dialogue system would be easier to make. The old system cost them to much money. The new one would be simpler and yes easier to make. Posted Image

A dialogue wheel *could* be nice, but....

I guess the problem with Mass Effect's wheel is that you can never be too sure what Shep will say. Maybe the one in DA2 will be better, we'll see.

Basically I don't mind a wheel, as long as I still have enough control over my character.

At this point, that is most likely what we are going to get. Oh, and a Voiced over PC . . . I am more than willing to put up with this, as long as the conversation options are extensive . . .As long as we have enough freedom to customize and RP our character, then that is all fine with me. I'll miss the silent PC, though
