Hey everyone, I'm having some problems with my display driver crashing while playing, which seems to only happen in outdoor areas. Most of the time, the driver recovers, but sometimes it doesn't, leaving me with a frozen screen. I am currently running the last nVidia beta drivers, which fixed the whole issue with the ground not displaying. However, this problem still occurs, and it had even occurred when I had a driver that was older than the ground bug drivers.
I tried testing out the game with all of the graphics options at the lowest, and that still did not seem to help. Also, this only seems to happen in outdoor areas with other NPCs or characters in them. I tested it in an outdoor area with no other creatures, and I had no crashing issue.

Do you have DirectX 9.0c installed? Is .NET Framework updated to 3.5?

I just installed .NET Framework 4.0, and I have DirectX 11, but I'm still getting this problem.
I haven't tested this completely yet, but this problem only seems to happen if my camera is panned at an angle so that the sky is visible, along with having other NPCs/players in the area.

Well, scratch that. It crashed even without looking up at the sky.

I'm going to soften this (edited). Do you really plan to continue to ignore the fact that NWN2 isn't Dx11, it's Dx9, and Dx11 is not adequately backward compatible? You must have both. You probably do have both or you probably wouldn't see any menus or cinematics, let alone indoor scenes.super_powered_chimp wrote...

In order to play this game, for the graphics elements, there are three graphical softwares working together, with your video drivers as only the first of the three, and easiest to change. Dx9 is next after that. The last thing to try is an uninstall of the game and reinstall. Before that, you reboot between each change and retest. A Clean Boot is also a necessary trouble shooting device, if you are addicted to conflicting programs, such as Xfire often is.

Exactly, when I state DirectX 9.0c (redistributable) I mean exactly that. DX 10 and 11 are not fully backward compatible with applications, and that includes games, that were designed for DX 9.0c.
Dx9.0c and newer versions can co-exsist on the computer at the same time; Dx 9.0c does not overwrite later versions of DX already installed, later versions do not overwrite everything from Dx 9.0c.

Alright... I guess I shouldn't have chosen to not to install DX 9.0c when asked. So where can I check to see if I have it, and where can I download it?

It's on the game disk. Just run its installer from there.

Yeah, still no luck after installing DX 9.0c and restarting. I'll trying reinstalling the game soon.
Could it be my GeForce 360M itself?

If it is running too hot, it would normally slow itself down before any software glitch intervened, and it's very new -- why not get some (free) benchmarking programs to test the graphics with, if you don't have comparable games to run and see whether the driver fails in those as well?super_powered_chimp wrote...

{If you already said so, it's a failure of this composition window / page that keeps me from looking at your earlier message(s).}

Well, my laptop likes to get hot, especially during this hot summer. For the past few days, whenever I play games, it seems that my GPU hits the Tjunction and my laptop forces a shut-down.
Blegh.

Very possibly, NWN 2 is very hard on GPUs and laptops generally have adequate cooling for most things, but games can heat them up very quickly, especially when air temperatures are warm, such as during summer months.
