This part of the storyline I never really understood. I can see the Gray Wardens political position, having decrees and laws made for their benifit. But Allastair always talks about how the Gray Wardens are the only ones with the power to stop the archdemon. But aside from their political position, and their motivation to fight the darkspawns, I haven't seen anything that makes them more able to kill the archdemon than anyone else.

Of course, there is the matter of being imune to the taint, and having the inconvenience of them being able to tell when you are close(and vica verca). But nothing of the Joining or becoming a grey warden mentioned that you got any sort of inhuman powers, like improved reflexes, unnatural toughness, or such.

So I'm not saying I'm dissapointed that they aren't magical and special, I'm just curious why they hold themselves in such high regard, when any hero or adventurer could certainly be up to the job, given enough motivation. And seeing as the Darkspawns are a threat to everyone, I really don't see why not

They can sense darkspawn and the presence of archdemons, no spoiler strings attached, you learn that the 2nd hour of the game.
