There has been a lot of ranting assertions and demands, but very little hard data on who prefers what.

So, lets let the numbers speak for themselves, shall we?

What do the most nerdiest of fans truly want?

Vote here.

Then you dont have a strong opinion either way and are best off not voting.....

If all the people who don't have a strong preference don't vote, then the data is skewed toward the extremes and you get a less accurate data set.

I'm not voting--they both have their merits, depending the story you want to tell. Since I generally don't make suppositions about what the next game should be like, I allow the devs to say where they want to go with the game...after that I start honing down my opinion.

Since the game is about Hawke, a person with a particular back story and name, it makes absolute sense for him/her to be voiced. I believe the devs have already said you'll have just as many dialogue choices as the Warden did, and they're not confined Paragon/Renegade style. That's everything they needed to say to have me on board for this game.

If I want to throw my nerdrage around, I'll wait till they do something really bad. ;)

Like many things that seem to be a little off about how DA2 came about, why fix what isn't broken?  The way the main character in DA:O is partially voiced works just fine. Let the Mass Effect series have the fully voiced protagonist.

Because this is a poll to find out what those who have a strong preference want.

But it's not accurate to what everyone wants is the point. So you can't pull this poll out later and say, "See?! See?! This is what the fans really want!"

...Not that you'll do that, it just doesn't really serve the purpose a poll should.

I'm very happy that DA2 will have a voiced protagonist. DA:O didn't have it and was still a good game, but I look forward to something new.

I voted voiced.

Without knowing what proportion of people have a strong preference, what use is that?  What is the point of making a poll that represents an arbitrary subset?  If you included a "no strong preference" option, you could still isolate and compare the data for the two extremes, but also compare them against the central option to find out how much the extremes account for.

Its to pull out whenever i see someone say "the fans" or "most fans" or even "all fans" want ...... which always happens. people who dont have a strong preference arent going to let it matter to them.

Right, I understand that.  But, if you don't account for those of without the strong preference, then you can't pull this poll out when people say "the fans," "most fans," or "all fans," because you won't know what proportion of those seeing the poll or even voting.  It could easily be that both extremes are minority positions, and that the moderate position is a plurality or even majority.  Wouldn't that be interesting to figure out?

In any case, it's your poll, and you can do as you like.  But if you want the poll to be useful the way you say you want to use it, you really ought to account for the no strong preference portion of the fanbase.

*nodnod* I vote that you add a "no particular preference!" option. And if not that the True Neutral "I just want to see the results!" option, a personal favorite of mine.

Both preferences are minority positions. This is just to counter the view many seem to have that everyone feels one way. This is meant to show how divided we are. the "no strong preference" portion dont really matter, as it wont make any impact on whether they buy and how much they enjoy the game.

besides, if we have a "i do not care" option, we dont get a better picture. i mean, what matters is the race between voiced or not voiced, and thats better visualized with only two options.

But having the  it doesn't matter option would also help to show how divided we all are if that is the point of this poll.  Because we all don't fall into just those two categories

Well Chris, i'll have to skip this vote. i too belong to the "both" category. I like to see a great story, a good plot, an enjoyable combat system and memorable companions.

All of these can be achieved both with or without a voiced protagonist

But i would like to see the results of this poll. To know what our community really thinks :)

Right. You can assume with all three you're getting at least an accurate fractional amount. For all you know, of these strongly opinionated people are only 5% of the rest of the crowd--such a tiny fraction they hardly matter.

It can only benefit you to put in a neutral option, since at least that way you have more accurate readings and you can just subtract us out and get the voiced/silent ratings, too. There is a 2nd and 3rd place, you know.

Well, I've taken the poll quite literal. Given the choice, I'd prefer the voiced PC. However, that does not imply it's a choice that makes or breakes my game. Like Mr HimuraChan said, story, plot, companions, the general gameplay are independent of a voiced or silent PC.

I'd just as soon have the game voiced. My current DA mage yells all the time. Might as well have a full voiced character as one who just yells once in awhile.

You dont have to burn down the house of whoever advocates for the one you didnt vote for.

The slightest preference is enough.

And new options cant just be added.

I guess I'm not suprised by the poll numbers so far. Given the choice, most young and elderly prefer velcro on their shoes.

If I can have a totally unrealistic scenerio with a tremendous voice selection in various themes, I would choose voiced. But if I only get one or two voice options, I'd rather not have to be shoved into a shoebox hero. I'll choose unvoiced for now and likely the next fifty years until voice synth tec is good enough to give players options without kicking over the sandcastles of our imaginations. Give me text and let me use my own imagination, I beg you!

I don't care if it is voiced just as long as I can have text with it. There are times when I play my husband is still asleep I have to keep the volume way down.

Why can't we compromise?

Have a voiced protagonist, but have him always speak really really quietly.
