One-liner emotes ftw!

In NWN, I like using that line: "this lock needs a delicate touch" when coming across a locked door before bashing it down with a greataxe because there isn't a rogue in the party.

I'd prefer silent, personally. However I'm not worried about Hawke having voice acting, Bioware will make it work, I have every faith in that. What perturbs me is the dialogue wheel, the thing is evil but not a single division of Bioware seem to realise it. Again, I think they'll pull it off though.

Voice is always superior. No exceptions.

I would enjoy hearing Hawke's voice before I made a decision is there a set voice actor or are they stil casting?

I don't care if it is voiced just as long as I can have text with it. There are times when I play my husband is still asleep I have to keep the volume way down.

Me too.

I do not care either way. If it's done well, I'll be happy.

Depends who the VA is. An option to turn it off would be a compromise.

I like the silent protagonist, except, Jennifer Hale is superb . . .. but anyway, my favorite Bw game tends to be ones without VO for the PC.

In an RPG, a voiced character makes you feel like you are playing as someone. In an RPG, a silent character is more like playing "yourself" in another world.

Voiced for me, dudes. I felt zero connection to my Warden, which is why I'm not particularly sad to see him off for DA2.

Me too.  :/

Plus, there is much more chance for dramatic moments when the PC is actually talking.

As I wrote in the other thread:

Silent. Also, I wish not ALL the NPCs' lines were dubbed... just some of them - obviously in the most important scenes, and also in other bits, but not in every single dialogue throughout the whole game.

To clarify, I LOVE good voice acting. KOTOR wouldn't be the same without Jennifer Hale's elegant, sweet voice as Bastila; Claudia Black added depth and a certain ruthless charm to Morrigan; etc. etc. Good voice acting can make a character twice as interesting. With the right actor/actress, a good NPC becomes great and an otherwise anodyne NPC can come to life.

However, more voice acting means less dialogue options and less conversations. Also, the voice of the protagonist, even if well acted, may not fit the kind of character I am roleplaying. Yeah, it's cool to have someone say aloud the line you choose, but I like it better when I can imagine my character's voice... something which I have never had any trouble accomplishing.

Games like Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment did it perfectly. Every relevant character is voiced, so the actors help shaping his/her personality... but not all the lines are dubbed, allowing a lot more content - banters, etc.

I suspect I'm in a minority and what I hope will never happen again. *shrugs*

Voiced. With the voicing comes the removal of the AFGNCAAP standard, and the Warden never really had many emotions. He just stood there with a blank expression all the time. That's the deal with the AFGNCAAP, it removes any feel of you being involved in the story because you're supposed to supplement it with your imagination. If I wanted that, I'd go play tabletops.

Well, look at that, more people prefer voiced PCs. Surprising after reading these forums. Though it's close enough you could say it's even. From a developer’s standpoint they are going to make roughly half their customers happy no matter what they choose, so they're probably just going with what they feel works best. I see a benefit in both myself. With a silent hero you can imagine the voice being whatever you want, but they have no facial expressions or visible emotions you have to imagine them there. With a voiced one your character actually has personality and facial expression, but they might not be what you hoped (there could also be an issue if the actor/actress isn't good). Either way there will be times when the choice will really annoy me and times when I'll be glad they want the way they did.

Dont forget that everyone on thise site represents at most 2% of their customers. And those who voted on the poll or posted in the thread represent another fraction (39 posts, 328 views for this thread)

I'm still hoping we can disable the PC voice (while leaving the rest of the game the same). I'd prefer my PC be silent, but I have no desire to force that on others.

Surely, it couldnt be that hard to disable with a mod?

Anyway, there is always very quick fingers and the mute button.

Silent, for sure. Every voiced protagonist game I've played has not felt like my character. Not my character= I don't care enough to wade through silly game mechanics.

I believe modding the voice out is next to impossible.
Mute is not an option when you DO want to hear others speaking.

So, lets let the numbers speak for themselves, shall we?

What do the most nerdiest of fans truly want?

voiced. I'm tired of the people talking around me while my character stands there looking dumb.

I am hoping for this, too, though the fact that the voiced PC comes coupled with a dialogue wheel where we see only paraphrases will still mean roleplay taken out of the player's hands.  The mechanic is more involved than just having the VO.

Word is the Hawkes are in the studio recording already.  Per Mike Laidlaw here on the forum.

Only if they design the game to make it impossible.  It's an audio file.  If we replace that file with a blank audio file, the voice should go away.

Only if they bundle togeher whole conversations and cutscenes in a single file would this cause problems.  I'm asking BioWare not to do that.
