1. Oblivion Style - trigger swings, jumping, trigger spells
2. God of War Style - Air Combo Juggling with 'rank ups'
3. Diablo/BGDA Style - isometric hack and slash
4. Dragon Age Origins Style (with improved interface.   Aka leave the strategic combat)
5. Kinect/PSmove Wii waggle wand style - I want to swing my arm around
6. Final Fantasy classic Turn Based - press X to attack, confirm? Ok go ahead and press X now, are you sure?
7. Mass Effect Style - make DA2 a cover shooter, twitch pwnz!
8. Hybrid Style (Vagrant Story, Summoner 1, Parasite Eve, KOTOR)  leave the real time w/ pause +dicerolls in the back, and add in some real time stuff like Summoner 1 timed chain attacks, or parasite eve real time movement and spell castling

I vote 8.  Anyone who has played Summoner 1, Vagrant Story , KOTOR and Parasite Eve 1 can attest to those hybrid combat systems already being very fun and deep.

Summoner 1 is a great example because it is essentially Baldur's Gate 2 with vagrant story style chain timed attacks.  4 person party, 1 summoned pet.  Very BG2.

THen in Summoner 2 the developers decided to make it action based to attract better sales. it didnt work.  The action based S2 combat was fun, but totally unbalanced and easy (Jade empire anyone?)

I want same combat as for PC version. Which is doable, unless your ass is especially big and lazy.

Also if you listen to the Podcast they say that the combat will be more or less the same as DA:O. They said anyone that played DA:O will feel like they know it just that it has been tweeked. So all those options are rather unlikely.

In that case I hope the combat on the PC requires as many keys as a flight simulator.

Me too, but I'll never bother with a PC game that is not 100% bug-free and optimized. Like Valve games (those I buy).

Why do you think I buy 90% of games for PS3? In fact I only buy PC games that are not available for PS3.

And I've seen plenty of buggy games on consols too.

I hope so too.  I'm of an opinion that the more complicated you can make the battle system, the better.  Synergy is god.

^ The Bioware team did come up with KOTOR combat.

A hybrid of KOTOR and Dragon Age combat would be lovely, and really suit the consoles strengths. One thing the console version needed was more ability to swap between sets of abilities. For example you could set three abilities, then press a button to swap to another set. I appreciate that I'm not presenting my point well here, what I'm getting at is a more intuitive version of the spell swapping from the original Fable.

I intent to get it on console and PC so this is a concern for me.

In that case you must simply love EVE online.

I want the same strategic combat(or perhaps KOToR style) on my console game. I don't want me game experience ruined because of the ones who whined that they couldn't beat DA:O just because they weren't smart enough.

What I miss most from KotOR are the cool melee duelling animations. I can't see them making a comeback but, jeez, would I like them to.

To be honest, the only thing I really wanted in DA:O (360) was the isometric view. :crying:

Ah, well, I'll get a PC that can run the game super hot in a few years and enjoy all the BG-style awesomeness then.

They aren't changing it completely I think. They're just tweaking the button maps. I highly doubt the game will move to hack and slash.

Personally, I hope they don't change it too much. I liked it the way it was in the first game.  I wish there were more buttons on the controllers. If they do figure out a way to import your data from the ps3 to the computer, I might just buy the pc version if the combat is changed a lot.

I would like it when an ogre, dragon, etc has a hold on you you would be able to counter it; that is what i didn't like in DAO having all sorts of creatures pin you to the ground or up in the air and not doing a damn thing about, you have a sword in your hand; use it!

I want an action queue! Even a short one would be an improvement. I'd like to set destinations for my party members (a la Mass Effect 1) as well.
