On hold with the exception of D&D online by Turbine I guess.

Would someone in-the-know be able to give a current events on the ATARI-Hasbro legal issue? A Cole's Notes version if possible.  Its been a while since I've had time to follow this topic in the old forums and I imagine (or hope rather) that some forward moving events/news has occured.

Nope. Nothing new here. Move along, move along, nothing to see here.

And it's Crib Sheet or Cliff's Notes, man.

Turbine is an already produced and active game being run, so the lawsuit doesn't affect it's operations and growth, with a possible exception of adding new, as yet unapproved assets -- which I doubt is an issue really.

Cliff's notes could be my notes. But to quote the very wise Sgt. Shultz "I know nothing". So you got me there. W/E is going on I hope it does nto drag on too long. DnD games are the only ones I play.

Any of you ever been to the College Bookstore at whatever Academic Institution you garnered your wisdom and edgimakashun at? Cliff's Notes are like -- the super pre-eminent way to study things like Shakespeare, or World History or Wuthering Heights without actually having to read the books.

I'm surprised none of you were aware of that. You guys must really like reading and went into the College Bookstore, got your books on your lists, complained about the prices (everyone should, even the most well off -- those books are inordinately expensive!) and then walked out, never to return, I guess.

Me? I like to browse. So there's this entire section of Cliff's Notes. They're like these little 4x8 notebooks about the thickness (usually) of a driver's test booklet with black and yellow striping along the edges and they cover a vast array of very standardized subjects from mostly English Lit classes, but sometimes I've seen them on the more famous Psych, History and Social Studies books as well.

And there's still no new information on Atari/Hasbro

Hey Banshe! Pretty busy these days. Had the DAO 2 hour expansion since release and haven't even found time to finish that....much less NWN2 modules. Crazy year this year. Still interested though in NWN2 and upcomming D&D CRPGs.

DNO: I know what Cliff's notes are also ;) As a Canadian inundated with American television its pretty hard not to know what goes on down there. I imagine in the deep south you aren't even privy to even a smidgen of Canuck TV with the exception of SCTV maybe. Up here, the only way through shakespeare's double talk was through Cole's notes. Or Mel Gibson's renditions. Keep us posted if you dig up anything new on Atari.

Ah, thanks for that. Then I don't know much about you foreigners. :D And you're right, not much for Canuck TV once you're past, say Upstate New York or Minnesota. I'm still surprised you don't all end your sentences in, 'eh?' (I am kidding.)

Okay, so obviously a regional difference. I'm betting Cole's Notes are probably better than Cliff's Notes. Here, those sorts of things aimed at the Least Educated Multiple -- or is it the Highest Common Moron? I never can remember which I'm supposed to use in these sorts of situations.

Any way... I hope I can get some more stuff about this, though it's harder to find out than getting Pentagon Videos on the internet.

I suspect they're pretty much the same. Even the packaging is the same, black on yellow. Though I think Cole's has less stripes. And Canada isn't all that different from the US when it comes to educating the masses.

Just wondering since the new Neverwinter game seems to be storming ahead for release Q4 next year.  (and I need a break).

Oh, and can I get a free 2-4 eh?

I still haven't been able to find anything. It's like the whole tham ding got swept under a rug er sump'n. I looked just this Friday and boop, zip, nada, bupkiss, zilch, nein, no way no how could I find anything past the information that said another court hearing date would be Feb 10, 2010 -- which didn't happen, by the way, and since then.

-- Deafening Silence --

Hopefully, I can dig up some sort of response from someone who might know this week.

Hey Banshe how's it going.

Thanks for the info dno.  No news is good news I hope.

An interesting bit of D&D news some might be interested in is the cooperative board game centred around Ravenloft.  First impressions are that it rivals games like Shadows Over Camelot.

Pretty good foil-. I still haven't bought a new computer. I'm cranking out an entire Oriental civilization slowly but surely and in my free time, harassing people here on the boards. ;)

Keep up the good work ;)

If you think of it, send me a pm when you get your Oriental civ off the ground.  Its one of those projects on my radar but things are so busy that time is slipping by without me noticing.  I still haven't got around to Misery Stone which was one of the main drool worthy community works I was looking forward too.  I don't think the new Neverwinter game will negatively effect any of the NWN2 works.  They look to have a very different direction in mind for rules, art assets, and gameplay.  Although I do hope the cooperative play core concept revives some of the original intent of D&D on the computer, there are still times I prefer a more solitary game play which is what NWN2 excels at (among other things).

In any case, it looks like Atari is managing to work around legal issues and still utilise the licence.  Maybe they've managed to separate their work issues from the legal rangling and continue forging ahead while the lawyers and CEOs work out the legal issue.

That is too bad!  You should really check out Rick Mercer's skits, Talking to Americans.  The short of it is, Rick goes to a US city and plays the role of a tv interviewer (a stretch, since that's what he is, besides a comedian) and then he asks the american about American history, local geography, etc.  The really simple "american" stuff!  GREAT Canadian TV!!

oh, and some US channel caught wind of it and tried it on us.  Well, that poor guy got laughed off the street all the way back to the states.   All i can say is SCTV.  If you never heard of it, check it out as you WILL recognize almost the entire cast (and yes, they is canadian, eh)!

Jay Leno has been doing the "man on the street" thing for years. He calls the segment: "Jaywalking". ;)
