I just obtained Blightblood yesterday and was reading on Dragon Age Wikia that if you apply a poison to it, it will lose it's permanent poison effect. I've done a few tests regarding this (since I had a few spare poison vials in my inventory). Please note that the tests are quite rudementary and are strictly my observations. I do not have any hard data to help support my claims.

Here are the poisons I've tried so far:

Acidic Coating
Soulrot Coating
Deathroot Extract; Concentrated Deathroot Extract
Demonic Poison
Soldier's Bane Poison
Venom; Concentrated Venom

Now here are my observations:
When I used Acidic Coating, Soulrot Coating, Deathroot Extract, Concentrated Deathroot Extract, Demonic Poison and Soldier's Bane poison, I would go into my inventory screen and check Blightblood's statistics. It would show

Stats
Poison: Venom
Poison: (Whichever one of the above was applied)

I then let the buff run it's duration, looked at Blightblood in-game and it was still dripping with poison. I then checked on the inventory screen and it still had it's "Poison: Venom" effect.

Now here is where I believe WHY it loses it's perma-venom. If you apply "Venom" or "Concentrated Venom", what appears to be happening is that the perma-poison is being replaced by the applied Venom. Therefore when the buff drops from you, it actually removes it from the weapon...since the perma-poison was overwritten.

When I checked the weapon's stats after I had applied both Venom and Concentrated Venom (did two seperate tests), it would show it's usual stats but instead of saying:

Poison: Venom
Poison: Venom

It would only display "Poison: Venom" once.

It's therefore my belief that you can use ANY other poison aside from Venom (or Concentrated Venom) and you'll be able to keep the perma-poison on this beautiful weapon.

I hope this helps everyone out there! Again, I do not have any hard data - the above is strictly a series of tests.

If anyone out there can back up my observations, please feel free to post on here to help support this post.
