For me - Phantasmal Killer - the name just sounds gothically gorgeous, and its a mid level illusionist's delight (I don't get out & about to the high levels much)

Firebrand is one of my favorites. It's party friendly and stays a good damage contender all the way to the end when maximized or empowered.

I like most Storm of Vengeance. It is useful both against hordes of lowly enemies and also bosses. It always damages and disables pretty fairly too. And nothing can lighten up dark interiors like this.

Offense (Epic): "Vampiric Feast"

Offense (Pre-Epic): "Extract Water Elemental"

Offense (Pre-Epic [Kaedrin]): "Splinterbolt" & "Ice Storm" (with piercing cold ability)

Defense: "Regenerate" (in combination with stellar HPs [buffed and/or through shapes]), "Storm Avatar" & Shapechange (with Kaedrin's changes).

Meteor Storm just for it's over the top flavor. It's brute force magic. That's what you bust out when you're real mad. Not the most  reasonable or effective spell, but nothing makes you feel like an all powerful mage than dropping several meteors and nuking everyone - and I mean everyone, friendly fire? Ha! Next time get out of the way meat shields.

Probably the best single-target disable in the entire game (for MotB at least): Bigby's forceful hand. If the hand wins a grapple check, they are knocked down and dazed for 1 round per level. It works on the Faceless Man too. Pretty much works on everything in mask of the betrayer, since even if they're immune to mind affecting spells, the KD still triggers. The only things you face that can withstand that spell will usually have bad will saves, so you can get them with solipsism.

Grease is another of my mainstays. Since it's a first level spell, you can cast it lots of times in the same spot and even high level opponents will miss that reflex save if you put enough grease under them. It's a great disabling spell.

Hey if you cast a sleep spell at a mirror will it put you asleep? If so then the sleep spell defiantly.

You don't need a mirror. You can fall asleep if you're inside its radius.

So you just cast it at your feet? Need to target something...

You can cast it on the floor, it has an area of effect. Casting it on a nearby enemy can also "work".

Oh, I am not original. Wail of the Banshee (and pretty much every other AoE save or die spell) is very cool. It has limited application, but it certainly feels like a surge of power. Wail of the Banshee (PC) + Blood to Water (Kaelyn) = 6 red wizards killed in one turn, before they could do anything. Vampiric Feast is even better, of course, but I usually treat it as a last resort which often never comes useful.

Bigby's Forceful Hand performs opposed strength check for bull rush, not grapple check. Still, it's wonderful against low to mid strength (and has non-negligible chance to work against the strongest) creatures, because it renders them completely helpless and there is only one check at the beginning, not every round as in other Bigby's spells.
