Hi all,

I noticed one of the best places to buy all three versions on NWN2 to play online is at the Atari website in the form of Neverwinter Nights 2 Deluxe.

http://www.atari-sto...s-2-Deluxe.html

I was just wondering if anyone knows how they send you the cd keys and can they be used to play online? I already have one copy of the game but would like another to play with a friend online, all I really need are 3 new cd keys.

Any info anyone has on this would be great.

My understanding is this:

You order through the Atari site, but it's actually carried out by Digital River (IINM = If I'm Not Mistaken) and all your receipts, CD-Keys and Download Links/Authorizations are done through them. This means if there are issues, you have to take it up with Digital River. I could be wrong about that particular aspect (that Digital River handles the purchases from the Atari Site) of it, but all else I am sure of.

Your CD-Keys will be just as if you typed them in from the paper manual out of a retail box. This includes online play and server authentication.

Does this mean that the DVDs are no longer required to be in the drive to play?

Well, if you buy them online, there's no CD available, right? However, that said, until you patch to version 1.23.1763 (1.23.1765 is latest patch level) the SecuROM function still works, even with online digital copies. So, the answer is yes and no.

Clear? I hope so.

Would you consider this the best way to get a new copy of the game when considering value for money? Also is it trustworthy (guessing it would be coming from Atari)...

ebay/amazon uk prices for NWN2+MotB+SoZ put altogether are worse than Atari's online Deluxe pack. This is uk specific but I guess pricing is pretty similar in other countries as well.

The advantage of owning retail is that you know you will be able to play the game again in e.g. 15 years. With digital distribution, you may well be able and you may not. It depends on authentication servers still being online, support willing to give you a new activation code in case your older ones had been used etc. Also regarding patching (again in the future), usually standalone patches, which you can download now & store apply to retail, digital downloads will depend on the patch server still being online - though I don't know if this is the case specifically for NWN2 as I don't have the digital download version.

It's really up to you, if you don't replay old games, go for digital download, if you like giving them a go after several years retail is the way to go.

Lyssistr thanks for the retail advice.

I already have a retail copy of all the games, I really would I only require the new CD keys? Can I install via my current copies and just use the new different CD keys that they would email me?

If this is the case I can just make sure I keep a good record of the new CD keys and still have the hard copies for years to come.

I believe that would be possible. I am not sure I would recommend that, personally, but I am a hard copy of media in my hand type, so... Whoo am I to say?

I don't know about that, there is only one way to find it and I would need the digital distribution to try it, alternatively an email to Atari support. If you do decide to try this, it would be great of you could let us know how it went.

Btw: just in case you fear you won't be able to re-use your NWN2 retail keys, you can do that, to the best of my knowledge, there is no online activation. If however you lost your keys, it may be worth taking a picture of your retail copies, if you find the store receipt take a pic of that as well and contact Atari. They may give you new keys, however I don't know their policy on this.

So far I had registered my PC games at the previous Bioware forums so that I didn't need to keep track of them, if you had registered your games in previous forums, you can try to gain your serials from there.

For DAO & ME2 I didn't use my PC, so I'll have to dig the DVD. This reminds me I should fire up google docs and store all my CD keys there from now on, as the old Bioware forums may not be around for much longer.

Update: if you are GooDYeT from this thread: http://nwn2forums.bi...19736&forum=111

(random thread google came up with first)

then, login to the old forums, you have registered NWN2 and you can at least regain your NWN2 serial, as you had registered that.

I do have my old CD keys, I just want a second set so I can run nwn2 online on 2 pc's at the same time. I have one running now online, but my brother likes to play the same server as me so I thought it would be fun if we could both play it at the same time, obviously with one set of cd keys we cannot.

This is the only reason I really want a set of new cd key to overcome the "this cd key is in use" when you try to get online.

Also that old post is me when nwn2 was first released.

Ah, I see, didn't read your initial post properly in the first place, thought you had lost your keys.

I can't really say if digital download serials work with retail copies I'm afraid, I haven't used the digital one- only retail. Imo, best thing to do is to send an email to Atari support asking for this before giving them your money.

Do you actually need the authentication servers running whenever you install or play? I would think it is just an install file that you downloaded run to install using the file and a cd key. I have never done digital download before. I would definitely recommend burning your download to a cd or dvd. Anyone know how that would work for sure?

The authentication servers are typically needed to verify your login if you want to join most PWs. I don't think authentication (other then during installation) is necessary for single player games.
