*is honestly surprised that there was no "in soviet russia" jokes yet*

In Soviet Russia, Dragon Age previews you. That's where the lady made her first mistake.

About review - well for most part author just nit-picking. Sort of: if talking about super-duper fast car - "wow, I hate those pictures on tires, they're awful, that red dot burns my eyes and will say no to this car even with 90% discount."

Well, as negative side was mentioned percentage of fights. Sounded like 95%. I hope that's not true.

Dunno, but overall review left a feeling, that author had critical days, no sex for months and the salary was ten days late. He/she definetly searched for bad things/things to pick on. Don't get me wrong - we NEED that kind of reviews, but this one was a little overdone to those possible facts I mentioned above :]

p.s. I will try to translate that video... if it won't take too much time.

I personally think that the preview/review was created to worsen Dragon Age's image in Russia, so that domestically produced Russian RPG may stand a better chance against foreign competition.

Well, it's an average review for 10 really good ones.

That may be, and I wont deny the russian review might have been coloured.. but isnt that so with the American gaming press aswell? many times Euro made games get low rates on dubious reasons. I would prefer such biased reviews didnt exist, as I'm prone to play Euro and American games with an open mind. Good example is Aion, it's a wonderfull MMO that deserves more credit than it's given by the US press. That also was a biased opinion when Aion was "rated"

It's a shame it exists.. but it's best to take reviews with a grain of salt when the reviewer is from another continent, appearantly.

My favorite part is where she complains that there are too many companions that want to join you.

What she meant is other party members don't have real motivation to travel with PC(with exception of Sten whom we freed from prison)

From a google translation, it seems she says that choices are difficult to made, so sometimes you want to avoid to make them altogether. If she means that for example you have to side either with the elves or with the dryad and the werevolves in that quest, that is a tough choice that I don't want to make either, because I hate them both.

Fixed. She meant that she didn't like choices and was forced to make them. Like you have to choose whom to support, Israel or Palestine. But in reality you don't give a f*** about any of them.

All I can say is this is why we have sites like metacritic. Regardless of the reasons, there are always people on the fringes that are going to really like or dislike a game (I was checking metacritic and apparently someone gave Super Mario 64 an 80 because there was too much to do on each level). Aggregates give us a general idea of what the general reception is.

Hell, if we got our impressions from some reviewers (Yahtzee, anyone?), we would never buy a game ever again and just lock ourselves up and play Nethack for the rest of our lives.

Now is the correct one. I was talking about my own preferences, not hers. I don't like to be forced to make choices like that either.

And about the real life conflict you are referring to, well, I care about it. Not the right place to discuss it, but check how many are killed in both sides from 1967 and you'll see who are the criminals there.

One example, though probably not the best but the first one which came to my mind straight away, is King's Bounty: The Legend(released Sep 08). It's a turned-based strategy game inspired by Heroes of M&M with large amounts of role-playing elements. It also received a metascore of 80% from an average of 24 reviews.

From what I understand, a lot of Russian games do not make it oversea due to language barrier or the small size of the developers. A game like Dragon Age would devastate smaller game developers in foreign countries, especially the ones with English not as their primary language.

NOW!!!

GIVE ME A MEDAL!!! REALLY!! GIVE ME SOMETHING FOR THIS!!!!!

As someone asked - video text translation. I did not translated it good, couse I have no time for touch-up. And sorry for mistakes - done it fast and im not russian.

This world is dying. Darkspawn is on our land and we are not ready for this. Nobles, forgotten their sence and pride, tear each other apart - couse it will be nothing in comparison with upcoming war spoils. Simple folk, who are stronger, becomes bandits or [people, who buys and sells stolen stuff], witch is often all the same ****. Refuges gives them last bits of goods and dies from hunger and sickness. There's thousands of those poor souls. Dwarves fight for power, elves fight for revenge. Fields are dry - there will be nothing to harvest next year. Darkspawn is coming.

Do you thing darkspawn is some hellish beasts, who come from other worlds to conquer us? No. Darkspawn - it's us. Look at this creature - he has nor beard, nor hair, but it's a dwarf. And this is a human - many of us will be like him, those who kills a human inside himself.

You think that only weak "dies" from bandit's and darkspawn's hand? He thought it, too. You are angry and ready to kill the bastards - he was , too. Now he IS anger. You are tired and don't see the point to fight anymore? He didn't also. He is Indolence.

Who will ramain human, elf, dwarf? Who? Why to fight for something what's already dead? Why to fight for something, that deserved to die? Who of us wasn't sold and betrayed?

You, noble human? And who is master of your castle now?

You, dwarf? What made you to leave your homeland and are you ready to go back?

Maybe You, mage? And how is your life in instant care of templar servants? You are proud, that the whole order thinks about your well-being.

You, elf - is the life sweet in ghetto of human city's outskirts? Are delicious those leftovers you get from short-eared kitchen woman.

Remember, my friends - resistance is the the way of pain and tears - every one of you will be sold and betrayed hundreds of times and it be like that till you understand...

Maybe you believe in friendship or even love? And who are your friends? This big guy, who is inprisoned not for false reasons at all? Maybe this temple priestess - clean and pure? Did she told you, where she got all theirs skills? Maybe you believe in the love of a young witch? Ask her, what she understands with this word. Let her tell you something good and pleasant - about her dear mother for example.

Maybe you believe in loyality. Here's your true friend [dog]. He will never betray. Pity, this side of character is apsent in those, who can speak.

Everybody has his own secrets, right?

Remember, every word you say will be heard by your friends and enemies, fast phrase will distant your friend, too coucious ways will not get response. Your every step will be heard by enemy's hounds and they will run for you. Remember, evil is keen for traps and you will not have every ansver. You are always in party and always alone. Darkspawn always is ready to give you a hand, make your body strong and mind free from doubts - and soul free from life.

That's what i'm talking about. You want me to make this choise but I don't want to. There are obviously some criminals, probably more on one side than another. But I simply don't care.

Glanced over the google translation real quick, she says something about dwarves have a negative stat in magic.... They can't be mages I thought? Are there spells anyone can use?

Anyhoo she seems to go on about stuff I couldn't care less about, I agree with her with the blood and underwear, well not underwear but the blocky bodies but that's not exactly very important to the score of the whole game surely?

Whatever.. ^_^ Posted ImagePosted Image

You may be right actually, because of the menstruation thing the women may connect blood with pain and discomfort. With all that blood flowing in there...

Isn't that half of what Dragon Age is about? Just to take the example about Israel. I feel the same way, I don't side with either side. BUT if I am placed in the middle of the conflict somehow, and I HAVE to make a choice, that is a difficult thing to do. And that's the POINT, to have difficult choices, and not just black/white choices that a 4 year old could make without hesitation.

That's my take on it anyway, and makes the game much more entertaining and "adult" (sorry, had to use the word!).
