I'll go with whoever DIDN'T come up with the idea of the human reaper so they could make humans the central focus of Mass Effect 2.

Most likely because you try to turn every thread about Mass Effect / Mass Effect 2 story into a ME1 vs. ME2 or Drew vs. Mac war. You spam account comments the size of a thread, you create flamebait threads, constantly doublepost. I don't think you're entitled to speak for anyone but yourself here especialy since you can't even lay out what you think about a toppic without being agressive and acting immature.

Karpyshyn, since Walters did poor job with Genesis.

Karpyshyn all the way.I mean,Walters is good too,but Karpyshyn's universe seems darker and more believable.Novels are just awesome, comics not so much.

The setup of the team on Mass Effect 1 was (to me) the best.
Drew did an amazing job as lead, so did the supporting writers, as well as Mac with the missions and character scripts. Perfect setup.

It's not really fair to compare pulp comic book work to full-length novels and I wouldn't attempt to do so, personally.
But I definitely am disappointed with the comic book cycle, and I was very excited about it a year ago. Have bought and pre-ordered every issue still, it's just a damn shame it's not better executed and that the subjects (FCW, political corruption, adding more story to canon characters, TIM's backstory in general) treated in the comics seem less than well thought through. Again, in my most humble opinion.

To me Drew > Mac. I felt closer to chars in ME 2 then in ME 1, but other then that by everything else novels and ME1 felt more right then comics and ME2.

Even do I'd put my hand into fire to say that both parts rule as best RPGs of all times.

I like 'em both, except I think Drew is given too much credit at times. There's him, there's Mac, but there're also other writers on the team like Patrick Weekes (who I believe wrote LotSB), Chris L'Etoile (who quit just before ME2 was released, but wrote Thane) and others whose names I've forgotten (they should try posting on the forums more often, lol).

I still enjoyed the writing more when Drew was in charge, though. The character interactions were better, dialogue seemed more mature, story and themes seemed to be more mature and serious as well (owing to the darker atmosphere some people have noticed in ME1), manageable story (meaning you had the freedom to do the missions as you pleased), a Reaper that was actually very well-written and scary (in comparison, most of Harbinger's lines are quoted for comedic effect here) etc... it just felt less Hollywooded, whereas ME2 had a LOT of writing that was Hollywooded and corny. Like Jacob's dialogue.

"I'm a biotic. Just tell me when you want me to hit 'em with the good stuff!"

And the lack of interaction between your old squadmates (particularly Wrex and Garrus while on Tuchanka) kind of convinced me that too many obvious corners were cut with regards to dialogue.

If anyone has read the bastardization of the beloved ME continuity that is Mass Effect: Evolution, you know the answer to the OP's question already...

This.

Edit: I found a post of mine from several months ago in this thread, and I had voted Walters, but with the way the PS3 and evolution comics have turned out, I definitely prefer Karpyshyn's version of ME.

Drew knows how to write a coherent plot. Mac knows how to write a damn good character. They're at their best when they work together, since they cover each other's weaknesses. However, both of them aren't really that great at writing for anything other than videogames. The novels are meh, and the comics are ick.

Karpyshan - He just writes in such a way that feeds the space opera feeling..it's deep, it's coherent, it connects..

Mac is good - But it feels like he gets a little to ahead of himself with trying to create awesome visceral sci-fi - when the Mass Effect story needs to be epic, it needs to be coherent, it needs to sometimes to be a little 'plainer' (for search of a better word) so the universe feels real and organic rather than the 'Colourful, Vibrant, Artificial' world that ME2 ended up feeling...

Personal Opinion..but feel free to flame...I'm off to bed. :-p

F*ck this Walters. Drew Karpyshyn owns him by far. Walters' story are not THAT bad, but it f*cked up Mass Effect a little. I liked the ME2 storyline, but the one from the first game was.. less cliché. It hurts me to know that this bastard *Walters* is gonna lead AGAIN the last game from this fantastic trilogy. Oh, and we're lucky to have had Karpyshyn in ME2, if it wasn't for him the story would've been a lot worse... Hah, Human Reaper.. **** MY A** Human Reaper! BioWare should see this.. but I guess is too late now. The're's no turning back, this cursed Walters will destroy ME3's story.

Gaider is better then both Drew and Mac IMHO.

Wow.

It's really something reading a thread like this, seeing a discussion that took place 10 months ago and how the dynamics of an actual game release can **** gamer opinion.

Anyway, I wasn't necro-trolling.  I just thought it was interesting how this thread's discussion was shaped over time.

It's hard to choose, really. The first game's story was more epic, but was also an epic recycling; it was something I call "Standard BioWare Plot #1". The second game's story was more original, but also kinda... small.

A lot of Bio fans seem to really love Standard BioWare Plot #1.
