Karpyshyn or Walters? Whose vision of Mass Effect do you favour?

I don't meet req. to play ME3.
I was wondering which is good book to start reading ME world?
Who was creator of ME lore?
Which sci - fi book stand for compared to what Lord of the Rings stand for fantasy ?

Start with Revelations, then move on to Ascension, Retribution and Deception. That's the order they were written, and it all probably makes more sense that way.
Drew Karpyshyn, Mac Walters and a couple of the other writers (Chris L'Etoile comes to mind, although I'm sure there were others) came up with the lore of the series. If you're interested in some of the inspiration behind the lore, L'Etoile has a nice blog. I can't link to it but Google search "mere anarchy loosed upon the stars" and you should find it.

I'll resurrect this post. With the train wreck that was the ME3 ending, we can now see that Drew was the master. I am thinking he was muscled out of the ME franchise because he didn't agree with the direction the story was going, and he was right. The ending was terrible. I bet he got fired, don't believe the "retired" story. He left in disgust.

Agreed, was so sad that Drew left! Mac Walters really ruined the series!

I have to admit, Mass Effect 3 was my absolute favorite story in the series even with lousy ending (I haven't seen the best ending yet). Whether it was because of the writing or the improved direction I don't know but I know I loved (and still love) it. Characters that I 'eh' in the first game have evolved over the games to become likeable or at least tolerable. Some even became excellent (Garrus). Great characters established in the second game became even better.
I wish Drew didn't leave (didn't even realize it happened until today) but I can't say that Mass Effect 3 wasn't (mostly) succesful story wise.
