We at least know that TOR will be good . . . that doesn't help ME3 out, though

Video game writers will never be able to compete with the best writers out there that just write books.  No matter how good it is, you might like Marry sues but not everyone does, and Drew is famous for making Marry Sues.

Shav. Walters learned from his mistakes in ME2 that he had to put his heart in the plot. ME3 will be better because he will learn from his mistakes.

I never said Drew is best, far from it. As far scifi franchise is concern hes novels are less serious reading material ,
What i am saying is that he has far more actual writing experience that Mac; hence the better main plot

I said I think he did, I don't know. However if you know me well you know I am a huge Wrex and Chris fanboy, so I am a little bias for Chris and Walters

Mac learned from his mistakes. ME2 was critised for it's plot, I highly doubt Mac said sod it and will do the same crap again. I have faith in Walters.

Considering he made Garrus, Wrex and ME2 TIM. I don't blame you.

I still would like to know who made Samara, and Mordin while you are at it.

Personally, I think the ME writers don't come here because they'd get swamped with people complaining about something or other and people trying to get info on the next DLC.

All I know is that I preferred ME1's more classic and semi-hard sci-fi leanings to ME2's more modern Hollywood ones.

Essentially, this.  Revelation is my favorite piece of work from the ME universe, which I found much more compelling and gritty than the so-called "dark second chapter".  I understand why they had to move Drew (and why he probably jumped at the opportunity), but ME has lost its grandiose feel as a result.  I don't say this to take anything away from Walters.  As kraidy implied, his characters tend to have charm and personality, but as far as creating large-scale worlds with a cohesive plot... I find Drew to be more capable.

:( Chris L'Etoile is also a huge loss.

QFT

I really wish ME3 got DA:O writers, that would have been epic!

But if we are talking about Drew and Mac, I'll root for Drew.

There were many weak and poor parts to Mass Effect 1, in terms of story and character development and overall game pace. However, I enjoyed Mass Effect 1's more hard sci-fi and atmosphere of our galaxy as a mysterious and awe-inspiring place much more than ME2. It captured that feeling of sci-fi, of space the beautiful and clandestine frontier, and the sense that women and men were on equal footing without a need to have the female sex run around in two strips of clothing and receive camera shots up the arse (Hellu, Miranda).

I saw real potential in Mass Effect 1. That's why I stayed with it and was willing to purchase ME2, hoping that everything from the story, atmosphere, characters, and Shepard would evolve and be improved upon in the sequel. I gave many of my ME1 gripes a pass because I thought they would be fixed and turned into something special by ME2. After all, we kept hearing how it was supposed to be a trilogy and ME1 was just setup to a greater epic story.

...it horribly failed. ME2 was horrific for me. Everything wrong about it became even worse, with very few positive aspects. I'd rate it even lower if we were going to include the marketing and PR debacles for the second installment. Anyway, ME2 crushed my interests in the series to the point where I have no intention of following the series any further.

Harsh, but I mostly agree. Except I still hope ME 3 will find its way back on track. Good writing from good writers would be a prerequisite for that though. Therefore I hope for more involvement of Mr. Karpyshyn!

I think since both have been integral to this series that both are needed to work together.

I'd rather they both work together on it as they have been pretty good at painting the galaxy in an array of colors. I would've been disappointed if the series stuck with a Star Trek-esque view of the universe and making it closer to Babylon 5 or the Stargate series (namely, there is some good bits, but a bunch of bad at the same time).

After all, from a story perspective, if the galaxy was more like Star Trek, what would be the point of the Spectres.

Case in point, they have both done great work in these games and they will need each other to make ME3. If we force to put one over the other, we'll be cannibalizing the series to mainly one person's perspective or views.

the games are the only mass effect media i consider 'canon' as they incorporate more than 1 person's vision and, hence, all the ideas/concepts/characters etc are filtered and distilled through a lot of viewpoints, so the best are kept and others may be discarded - drew's book haven't been great, and mac's comics certainly haven't been - and they come from a single person's vision by contrast, where you don't have that greater perspective.

btw 2 comic series incoming? i thought it was one: the illusive man prequel. EDIT: incursion came out already (just not in paper form) and was also not great...
