Agreed, it comes in Amazing Technicolor!

Honestly, if you don't like the graphics, fine, but comparing it to other games left and right doesn't prove any point.

EDIT: Yeah, and Blizzard doesn't have BioWare's story, characters, or depth. They got the lore down pat, though.

I'd argue you can't really compare them overall as companies, Blizzard makes RTS's, MMOs and Hack & Slash. In every one of these genres Blizz is king.

Bioware makes tactical "old school" RPGs which are more multilinear, party-based (tactical), have romances etc, they are the best of their kind, followed by Obsidian.

Both companies excel at what they do, no point in comparing them as game developers, some like apples, some like oranges. Comparing specifically graphics between Stracraft II and DA2 on the other hand does.

I'd say DA2's best pics are roughly on par with SC II, however many DA2's pics are not close to SC II's craft. SC II has been under development for years and is planned to span another 3 years after release by means of expansions. On the other hand DA2 has a shorter development cycle. The level of craft SC II's pictures have is on a different level so far, I want DA2 to get there but I'll be happy with what Bio can deliver, which I'm sure will be polished.

Also Blizz's games are highly optimized and they run well on low end machines, have a *proper* (read in house, native, with concurrent patches & updates) Mac ports and are optimized for computers in every aspect (UI, performance etc), they're not xbox ports. Blizzard never ever rushed a single product, all are released "when it's ready".

I may sound like a fanboy but the point is that I'm a fanboy of both companies and objectivity calls for SC II gfx > DA2 gfx. I'll buy both, DA2 is going to be a great game but truth be told, graphics-wise SC II is superior.

Oh, of course, of course, I'm not knocking on Blizzard, not really. I'm just pointing out that graphics are one of Blizzard's strong points--but a bit of a low point for Dragon Age. But I don't play BioWare to be like Blizzard, I play them to be like BioWare.

We'll see about The Old Republic.

Which is irrelevant anyway because official and magazine screenshots are never going to show off the low end, or minimum requirements end of the spectrum.

 Lady Gaga is the best thing that happened to music since Aerosmith . Joke's aside, I didn't like much darkspawn's armor but when I saw the comparison with skeletor, I stopped caring :P My main/only issue with DA2's graphics are environment textures, they have time to polish that tho and to be fair with Bioware, they never released an unpolished product so far.

Beta was out, game run super slick. No need high end pc, mid end fine for max.
People play on minimum sub-human, should not be near computer.

At the same time Blizzard doesn't need to customize faces. The fact you don't need to do that and can just let the artists go to work makes a huge difference. Look at the ME2 cast  + default Shepard versus all other ME2 humans. Drop in quality. Why? Because you can get a much better looking face if you are scanning actors and asking teams of artists to fix up the faces.

I'd say graphics are Blizzard's smart point. Technology-wise Blizz never cared too much for high-end stuff, they always had a "special" artistic direction, which almost always ages well, is aesthetically very pleasant (it's like you want to literally eat those areas in WoW) and most importantly almost always has no single flaw (like bad textures etc). Even if a game had Crysis level graphics on most areas but had two areas with sh** graphics, it would spoil everything. it's that artistic direction that makes their games have superb graphics, even on low end machines (and I mean really low end, on-board intel graphics cards).

TOR is a different subject, I won't play it anyhow, because I'm not gonna play an mmo again, I'm quite happy to have my life back. If I were to play it though, I'd like Bioware to be Bioware and not make yet another (failed) WoW clone. WoW is WoW, it's perfect at what it does, Bioware is Bioware, perfect at what they make and they have a different target group. I'd like to see what makes Bio's games strong, plot, intrigue, romances, tactical combat, replayability.

I'm not sure how these would work on an MMO but Bio's devs sure know a couple of things more about making that happen.

Oh and I have Dragon Age on the xbox and it looks better than that.

That just looks horrible to be honest, the darkspawn look like a mess and the scenery...yeah.

Default Shepard have super short hair. Same with all Mass Effect chars, look decent.
Almost everyone with long hair look like big turd. Including characters with faces specfically scanned with no customisation, like Yvonne Strahovski from crap Chuck show that should be cancelled because it not very good like Scrubs. If Blizzard make, Mass Effect 2 come out in 2026 with super looking hair.

Yet another reason to think these pictures are very early renders.

Bethany's hair looks like a solid mass of purple plastic. Not a good first impression. Natural hair is hard to achieve but it can be done. Chloe in Uncharted 2 is far superior.

Uncharted 2 in general paid far, FAR more attention to graphics than BioWare typicaly does.

As for the graphics, I like clean, consistent graphics with a minimum of bugging out and clipping.  They don't have to be Crysis-level graphics, they just have to be acceptable.  I look at graphics kinda like special effects in movies--they don't catch my attention unless there's something wrong with them, or unless they're just that awesome.

Starcraft II looks better than Dragon Age and Dragon Age 2. Bioware  simply doesn't have Blizzards polish. Even the attempting to point out  the traditional RTS aspect of the game as well as the Adventure/RPG  story elements, it still aesthetically looks better than the garbage we  have been shown. Dragon Age 2 is a rushed game, Starcraft II is a matured game, crafted for Koreans and people sort of like them, but not.

Disagree. The stuff inbetween missions looks quite cool but the missions themselves look like you're playing with toys, way too cartoony and colorful.

Im sure they are focusing on getting the story, quests, and voice acting finished. Graphics can be smoothed out much later; and judging by the resolution of these screenshots, I assume these are the console screens. Bioware never dissapoints, the graphics will be at least equal to DAO, if not much better.

Offside: SC2 is FINISHED while this game is not. Lets wait until both are final products to judge which has better graphics. IMO SC2 looks childish and cartoony, although im not a fan of the original or this.

Looking better... but I still don't like the darkspawn armor and weapon design, all the spikes or the weird looking chest plates on the darkspawn and Hawke.

I thought the DAO cut scenes were done using the "in-game" graphics engine. Comparing top of the line graphic scenes used between missions in SC2 is like apples to oranges. I would bet money that Blizzard isn't using the "same" engine for both the RTS game play AND the cut scenes.

In fact I'd bet the SC2 cgi scenes were contracted out to a third party studio like Blink or Blur Studios. But that's just a guess...

edit - upon further investigation it seems that Blizzard has their own in house animation team now.

But still, my point is still valid I think. The "in-game" cut-scenes using the in-game engine is going to look quite a bit different than the high production CGI that's used in a game Trailer.

So unless the game is using the in-game graphic engine for their cut-scenes it's not a fair comparison.

If you notice, all characters in these Starcraft 2 screenshots have short hair, too. (bit of ponytail on the back doesn't really count) There's one who looks like news reporter in the hangar pic with longer hair, and it looks just like any other long hair in typical computer game, or as you put it, like big turd.

And yeah, by year 2026 hair may look better in games. But that'll be hardly limited to Blizzard.

Also, this. Roland's right - the cutscenes are done using the in-game engine. Sometimes to hilarious effect - anyone else notice that during the Denerim intro cutscene narrated by Eamon, the guards are marching right through a tripwire that some bandits set for you in a random encounter?

Oh man if a DA game looked as nice as Uncharted 2 I would die happy. That was a really gorgeous game.
