Yeah, I like the look of the buildings too. Same goes with Flameth's dragon form - I like the fact it'll probably look entirely different than other dragons (unlike in DA:O). I don't quite fancy the new look of darkspawm and their armour. Characters so far look a little bit too much like taken out of a Korean MMORPG, but I think I'll still like the game very much.

Personally I think they look worse than DAO... Too cartoony? Suppose thats to up the framerate on the consoles, hope this GFX is not in the final game...

I love the new graphic style, but detest the new Darkspawn. Hopefully they'll get plastic surgery.

I like it all, except for the Hurlocks. The armour I'm fine with, but they look too human now.

Someone said it earlier, but I agree: Bethany's hair looks reaaally plastic-y. It's kinda gross.

It reminds me of a certain event from "American Pie"

Re: Darkspawn, regardless of the art direction they choose, what I want to know is, where is the taint?

In the game and especially the novels, the darkspawn are supposed to have this necrotic, poisoned flesh that permeates and corrupts the world around them. These darkspawn just look like people with no lips who haven't bathed in a couple weeks.

Not impressed.

Not a fan of the Hurlocks, they look too human in appearance now. Not a fan of the plasticy hair. Not a fan of the ogre's head either for some reason.

However......these are all still images, and a game isn't still images, it's moving ones. Can't really judge it until they show some actual gameplay.

Agreed.

I think the new models have a sort of  almost "reptilian" quality...might be the eyes and skin texture.../sigh

But this is what I see in my head when reading the books (and what i see when playing DAO)

I think they look like concept art from the Russell Crowe film "gladiator".

Buildings is not the hardest to do well here in 2010, most games have nice looking buildings today

I'm confused. I thought Bioware said they were going to make the graphics in DA2 better then DAO O.o Are those screenshots from the console version? They honestly look really bad : / DAO on my laptop looks way, way better. TESIV:O modded looks better then that and the games from like 2006 lol

Is it just that it is still in Alpha or w/e and everything is still going to look way, way better at release or what?

I think the game looks great and everything i have seen or heard so far has me very excited the only thing i don't like is the look of the Ogre and Hurlocks.

The new artistic direction is probably not enough to deter me from buying the game, but I think the Ogres and Hurlocks definitely need more grit and a darker colour palette.

Right now they look like Caucasian males with zombie/skeleton heads stuck on, wearing funny armor. It looks ridiculous. They just don't look like a creature morbidly transfigured from the taint.

Hopefully at worst these are just really early shots with no lighting and are just the basic underlay models. Hawke's hair looks like it was taken straight out of the latest Lego game.

Looks great BioWare. Though I was a bit shocked on the change of the darkspawn, but I guess it is for the best as everyone seemed to refer to them as Orcs. Hawke looks amazing, it looks like combat will look more heroic than the realistic standard fantasy medieval combat from DA:O. Melee in DA2 will probably be a lot more fun. =)

Flemeth looks great, do you plan on releasing a patch changing her look in DA:O? Or did she just get a makeover after being bored being holed up in her hut? ;p

Thanks BioWare for continuing this series! ;p

I predict that Bethany will get kidnapped at some point in the game and Hawke will have to find her (this would be predictable, but I hope it doesn't happen).

They seem to be regular models with pre-computed radiosity lighting applied. In a sense this is "cgi" since it's uses the same technology non-realtime renderers use, but it's the same technique DAO uses to for its architecture -- Denerim and everything else is done in the same way.

Ugh, I want to be fair and wait for the PC stuff but honestly I don't like where any of this is going. "Focus Groups" should eat dust...

You all need to see the game in action. Those screenshots are from the xbox version that they had at SDCC . It was the same demo that Game Informer played. It looks great and had a smooth framerate. They said they were showing off the xbox version since everyone knows the PC version will look better on a capable machine.
