Are ME1 and 2 playable on a MAC. I'm thinking about getting a MAC and I'd like to know. If they do work I'd like the system requirements, I've been looking everywhere but I just can't find them.

Yeah I found out. Besides that cheapest MAC is $1000 bucks, I'm not going to pay that. I feel stupid now,,,

ME is not available for the mac and most likely never will be since the game was written using unreal engine which is coded for Microsoft. At least that's what I have read into.

And coming ferom someone whose had to use a MAC laptop you much better off buying a pc 1 because they are cheaper and 2 they are way more customizeable and more gamer friendly

To be more accurate, it's coded with DirectX as most other game engines are. DirectX is not available for Mac, and for a game to run on a Mac you must either run it through bootcamp (or something similar), or it must be converted to OpenGL rendering instead. And that's a ton of work.

well i am not saying any serach engine is 100% accurate i just read bits and peices which might of said one thing about microsoft and another thing about unreal, but now that i know  i can read  a little further into it

Yeah I'm probably going to buy a PC instead. The MAC is too expensive and the games I want are not available for MAC.

There's also a program called crossover games that will run some pc games on Mac. I got the ME2 demo off of Steam and got it to "work" on my iMac. It runs terribly though, but that's probably because I have a 2007 model with only 1gb of ram, and I'm not sure if my graphics card meets the requirements either. I'd be interested to see how well it works on a newer Mac though.

Most people who use Macs are not gamers. If they were, there would be more games for it. There are companies that do port PC games to Mac, but the majority of the time they do a horrible job. Aspyr is the main company that does the port jobs and they are notoriously bad. They've also done some 360 to PC ports and botched those too.

While this isn't a debate on which is better, it is about which is more geared toward gaming. Macs are not gaming machines and they were never intended to be. An iMac is not designed for gaming. They're all-in-ones and they get HOT. Most only have low-end graphics quality. Also, Boot Camp is pretty bad at running Windows.

Try WINE, takes a bit of effort but you'll probably get it to work.

I'm curious where you've got that info from. Any mac natively booting into Windows with installed BootCamp drivers is as good as any pc counterpart. Say you've got a mac and a pc with the same hardware specs, you won't see any difference at all.

Ummm, no. I have only one computer: A MacBook Pro (C2D 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM, 512MB GeForce 9600M GT, fwiw). I run MacOS X 10.6.7 and Win7 Ultimate 64, and they both run excellently. I do all of my gaming on this machine, not limited to but including both Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 (and using any high resolution texture mods I can get for both).

They both run just fine. Windows runs just fine. The drivers Apple provides are just fine, though like any Windows user who plays games, it is a good idea to get the latest graphics drivers from the card maker (nVidia, in my case) as well.

Re: Unreal Engine games and Mac... there is a company that has ported a couple of UE games to MacOS X. Feral Interactive has ported Bioshock and Borderlands to MacOS X. From what I've heard, they play just fine, though I haven't played them (I already own the Windows versions, and I don't mind booting into Win7... it's a nice OS). Theoretically, it would be possible to port both ME games to MacOS X. The question is whether or not it is worth it for Bioware/EA to do so or whether or not they are willing to farm it out to someone like Feral Interactive, provided FI even wants it.

For what it's worth.

I second this. Have a few games for the mac and they run pretty well. Also, the guy who said Aspyr does a horrible job at porting games should hit himself. Call of Duty 4 for example runs very solid and smooth and I have no problems with it and they ported it.

They both run just fine. Windows runs just fine. The drivers Apple provides are just fine, though like any Windows user who plays games, it is a good idea to get the latest graphics drivers from the card maker (nVidia, in my case) as well.

The thing is 80% of the computer market is PC and Mac is only 10% while the remaining 10% is linux.

There is a Mac version for Mass Effect, only it doesn't seem to play under OSX Lion 10.7.3
Make a search with 'Mass Effect for Mac'.

Wow, so much misinformation here.

Unreal has been available on the mac right from day one: natively. So go figure where you guys are getting your info.

Mass Effect 1 and 2 ARE available for the Mac. Bought any ME games on Steam? You get the Mac versions free (except for ME3 which is not available on Steam).

Macs not modable? Even if you have a laptop, they can be modded. iMacs? Somewhat, but them point me to an all-in-one pc and we'll see how modable that it.

Bootcamp bad at running windows? never tried it eh? Bootcamp runs Windows faster than an equiv PC.

Now this is one big lie....

There is no Mac version of any ME game, only if you:

1) Run it on bootcamped Windows
2) Run it under OS X through Wine but thats awful graphics and crashes

So no, you cant get any ME game on Steam nor for free nor for money, they dont exist for mac.
