I said the meaning of feminism in the recent years started to change, I never said it was that since the start, and if you read a lot of other comments you see it is not just my opinion

*shrug*  I don't really care that it's not just your opinion.  That has no bearing on the truth of the matter.

also, are you planning to flame me?

No.  Did you want me to?

I probably could make you cry but I wasn't really interested in that.

aha, sure

This. This, so hard.

Still, is sad that men can't look outside themselves and identify with anything but their reflection.

Yes. It's also sad that women are expected to always be able to identify with a male lead, whereas men shy away from having to identify with a female lead. In the RPG genre, we (supposedly) are focused on characterization, on stepping into a character who is not us. None of us are Ferelden Wardens, for example. Why the difficulty going one step farther? Again, I'll reiterate: why is it stranger to be a dominant woman than to cast spells that light your enemies on fire?

Well might be that the two genders dont function or think the same way? i freely admit i cant reflect to a female lead; identify myself with it; nothing against equality but we aint the same

Really  ? - So what is the  non-physical difference ? Enlighten me…

to be fair, in recent years most of the time when feminism comes into play it doesn't have the original meaning but women who complain about things use it as an excuse to demand things to be pro-female pro-their dominance, instead of wanting real equality, it is as if the worl starts to go from male dominated stuff to female dominated one

I am all for gender equality in jobs but to replace one inequality for another worries me too

Ah, a definition of feminism from a guy who obviously doesn't understand it.  That's helpful.

Not that I'm surprising, given certain other statements I've seen you make.

i actually think jorians right. i usually dont see what you would call a femenist really wanting equality, most are only focused on the women, and thats just sexism, too.

I said this earlier on the thread, but the loudest part of a group tends to be the smallest, which runs hand-in-hand with craziest. Anti-male is not what feminism is. If that's all the feminists you've been seeing it's because they throw up the biggest noise, and you don't notice the more reasonable, larger portion. Seriously, what you said was ignorant and offensive. Wanting equal rights is not a bad thing. Feminism =/= bad thing.

noone said that, but by now it would be perhaps better to say "I am for equality" instead of "I am feminist" to avoid misunderstanding,
nationalism was not a "bad word" neither before Hitler showed up, and the swatiska is a holy symbol that got defiled

That is how I look at it.

However, just because we aren't the same does not imply that we are not equal, no? ;) It is equally [insert any adjective here] to be female as male. To be one or the other is not to be inferior, even if each comes with different pluses and minuses. Think of-- oh, think of traditional roleplay classes, mages versus warriors for example. Or we could do dwarves versus elves. Each one comes with it's own benefits... and it's own weaknesses. But neither is intrinsically 'better'. Thus if roleplay games were always marketed towards players who chose mages, and ignored the warriors, that would just be silly, no? ;)

Literature. Funny story, I needed a filler class for the summer, so I signed up to what said popular lit... turned out to be popular literature: Women in Literature. I just found that out... I was wondering why i was the only guy in class and why everyone looked at me so wierd when I showed up.

I'd be happy to accept that if you can back it up with statistics, else it's just your perception of what "society" thinks and is not necessarily correct. I can think of quite a few games that sport a female protagonist.

thats actually possible, but how they say: what is seen by the world is what is presentated to the world. and what im seeing presentated to the world has the name of alice schwartzer and gives things female names so there are also she-toolkits. i mean, honestly: if persons like that pull the meaning of feminism in the mud than why the frigg arent the other feminists resisting? why arent they saying something like: "the majority is not that totally freaked out as that person"? why arent they actually doing something against laws that make it much harder to employ a woman because she can be much harder to fire later, or better, why are those laws even supported (again, im german so i dont know how the law or the feminism movement behaves in other countrys). why is a majority presentated by a minority, with which they should disagree if theyre no sexists. i mean, the only way to reach a goal is to get public interest. and i usually dont see the "normal" feminists doing that. so the only option i see is that theyre sending warhounds like schwartzer to make theyre point, wether they do it direct or indirect.

Why shouldn't Bioware also market an iconic mage, archer, rogue, etc?

Actually, as a mage-lover myself I think it would be great if they did that.  But that's not the topic of this thread.

If someone started a thread about the topic you brought up, I might be inclined to post there and lend support.

"feminism n (1895) 1 : the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes 2 : organized activity on behalf of women's rights and interests — feminist n or adj — feministic adj"

i can totally live with that and think it is important. but why is it then that the most feministic organisations only postulate things for the woman, but nothing for the men (and i know one or two points (at least in german law) where we men are THIS kind of screwed) and some even arent allowing men in theyre groups or dont allow them on certian meetings?

EDIT: im refering to point 1. i think point two is mainly sexistic, for an organisation with that definition only women replaced with men would be called sexistic, too.

I am against any kind of discrimination, it just the power groups usually get less of it.

I would like that list, please. Western games with female protagonists? For my own playing, if nothing else. Because last I checked, for every one game with a heroine there are a few dozen with a hero.

Also, here is a statistic that relates to movies, on this issue.

I'm afraid they are :D. However, as long as it suits my agenda of world domination sporting Megan Fawkes on DA2's front cover, I'm with em.
