Just wanted to say that The Stolen Throne and The Calling were both really good intros to the world of Dragon Age.  I think that the fans who read those books would love to have some more.  While it seems like it would be hard to do books leading up to Dragon Age 2 since it starts around the same time aa Origins we would still love to read more.

On a side note I love that when you first meet Alistair of you ask hit about Daveth he wonders why Duncan would want someone like him.  Just a nice little thing for those of us that read The Calling.  So yes please more Dragon Age books!!  Also anything else you write even if its not Dragon Age would be good too. I agree. Both very good books and I'm glad they also incorporated them into the game. Seeing Utha with the Architect for example in Awakening.

If I remember correctly, it's up to the publisher of the books on whether he can write more. So hopefully, his publisher gives him the green light for more.

I absolutely agree with this.

David, I'm a very, very experienced reader, a literature student, a tough critic, and a writer myself, and allow me to say that you have GREAT potential as a prose writer! It would be a shame to have you never write another novel!

I bought the Stolen Throne vaguely ashamed of myself for purchasing a tie-in novel, the ultimate literature sin, but I was blown away by how well-written it was and how complex the characters were. It wasn't a perfect book but it was a great read and, stylistically, was like watching someone like George R R Martin early in their career!

Would love to see you develop your prose-writing skills. I really, really enjoyed the DA books, and like I said, I'm a very tough critic.

I have to say I laughed out loud when Maric says, "I fall off horses. It's this thing I do." It reminded me so much of something Alistair would say. That kind of continuity and consistency is really fun to read. I'm only partway through The Stolen Throne, and haven't read The Calling yet, but they are both on my Nook waiting. :)

I have a feeling this thread will get locked soon, likely being off-topic, but I'd like to throw in my thoughts as well. The Stolen Throne was a very enjoyable read...I almost consider it required if you're a Dragon Age fan. It does a great job of building up the character of Loghain, setting up his motivations and reasoning that lead him to do what he does in the game. On a side note, it also makes me want to see some visual depiction of Rowan swooping in with her green plume. :)

More books in the Dragon Age setting would be nice. The Stolen Throne and The Calling were great lead-ups (if thats even a word...) to DA:O. Though with the amount of dialogue and such that has to be written for Bioware games, I'm assuming Mr. Gaider has to take breaks at some point to ward off the Curse of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Thanks. I'd love to write more books, but we shall see whether or not that happens. We have a pretty short development cycle on DA2 (as you can see) so time really is the limiting factor, here. Maybe someone else might write some DA novels, who knows?

Make a Dragon Age Cookbook of Thedas- Qunari confections and pastries, Alistair's Finest Cheeses, Morrigan's Swamp Cuisine, Oghren's How to Start a Microbrewery and of course, Fluffy Mackerel Pudding. Yummmmmmy.

Mr. Gaider, somewhat unrelated, but I have long wondered about  your personal stance on Fan Fiction. I tend to collect the stances of authors I favor on the subject, and I consider it a hobby to keep up with the debate between pro and anti-fanfic authors. George R. R. Martin, for example, has an outspoken distaste for the stuff and I am aware that his A Song of Ice and Fire books at least somewhat influenced Dragon Age.
Will you humor me?

Hoo boy.

When a novel based on an IP is outsourced (so to speak) all too often this means some "works for hire" crappy tie-in author who churns out crappy tie-in novels for a living is hired to do it. Which leads to the bad reputation tie-in novels have, as Rosa stated. I really hope you ain't hinting here, Mr Gaider, and if you are, please vet the dude.

Better yet, do it yourself. No one pulls off "aha I made you fall in love with this character - now I vill KEEL HEEM!" like you do

So I take it he isn't writing the upcoming Dragon Age cartoon thing then?

Reading is boring.

I've spoken about this before. I think fanfiction is marvelous, and the idea that people out there feel enough affection for and ownership over characters I've created to write for them-- well, that's just dandy. That said, I can't read it. I'm too close to my characters to really get into someone else speaking through their mouths, but I'm fine with them wanting to. I say "go fanfiction!" ...but I do so from over here, where it's safe. :)

Well that really depends on what I'm eating it with, doesn't it? Overall I'd have to say gouda.

And damn you for bringing it up. I don't get much cheese on my diet. <_<

It's interesting that you say you're too close to your characters to read others' writing through them. Yet in the game, many different outcomes and permutations can occur as we manipulate the NPCs' lives. I would guess you have your "favorite" outcomes for them?
