You manipulate them, but they still respond with the voice the writer is providing. It's sort of like writing several different conversations at once, sometimes.Addai67 wrote...
It's interesting that you say you're too close to your characters to read others' writing through them. Yet in the game, many different outcomes and permutations can occur as we manipulate the NPCs' lives. I would guess you have your "favorite" outcomes for them?
I was a bit sad that the plot that delved more into his motivations got cut. Lamentable part of game development, I'm afraid. That was part of the motivation behind going more into it in the Stolen Throne. Overall, yes, I'm very happy with how he turned out. I prefer villains who do things because they believe they are right-- in my opinion, that's exactly the sort of villain you're bound to find in real life.Majin Paul wrote...
While you're here David, I'm wondering, do
you like how Loghain turned out? In your books, he was an interesting
character who was patriotic but he turned quite paranoid and quite an
ass, would you say he's one of your favourite characters?

I just wonder what Alistair might think of the Grey Wardens if he knew how Duncan was recruited considering his "knight in shining armor" mentality and very moral/chantry influenced decisions . Its also very funny thinking about how Daveth joined the order. A thief caught by another thief. hehehehe

I'd say Kell. He's based on a good friend of mine, and that scene near the end (you know the one I'm talking about) sort of broke my soul. Why I consider that a good thing, I have no idea, but I do.Suicider_11 wrote...
By the way, Mr Gaider, who is your favorite character in "The Calling"? Duncan and Kell were my favorite Grey wardens in the Novel.
I think Alistair would do his best imitation of Arnold's "What'chu talkin' bout, Willis?"I just wonder what Alistair might think of the Grey Wardens if he knew how Duncan was recruited considering his "knight in shining armor" mentality and very moral/chantry influenced decisions . Are you talking about Loghain's fade sequence, or something else? I've always wondered when the fade sequence for Loghain got cut, because the files for young Maric's face are still in the toolset.

Speaking of how villians turned out, was there more dialogue for the Architect in Awakening that got cut? He was sooo more interesting in the books than in the game. I'm still not quite sure why Utha made the decision to side with him, was expecting more of an explanation on that in Awakening but the interaction between the player and the Architect was really short overall.
I'm wondering this too. In the Dragon Age motivational thread, I actually made fun of how short the Architect's involvement was. He traps you, he talks to you, and he dies/helps you.
1st scene
A: lol sorry
2nd scene
A: why can't we be friends?
3rd scene (if alive)
A: lol i started blight
W: Wait, what?
I thought the Architect was kind of over-hyped for Awakening. He was on the cover of the official page, but makes three appearances. The other villain is off-stage all game, yet suspiciously gets more scenes...

I was disappointed, too. It seemed there could have been so much more there. One of the times where I wish I had encountered these characters on a written page again rather than in a game where everything is rushed and stripped down.leonia42 wrote...

I hope to see more novels, too. The setting would also lend itself to shorter works, I would think. Maybe a collection of short stories by the various game writers?

It's regrettable that some of his complexity was lost from the book to the game, but understandable. Some more info from him regarding the Orlais - Fereldan war would have provided more context to his actions. Hell, I don't care, you could have him talk about anything, I don't care, Simon Templeman is just that interesting to listen to. That man could make reading a grocery list sound awesome. Really could not have picked a better guy for him.

They cut some of that out? That's a shame, I'd have been interested in that.David Gaider wrote...

Someone who's getting ready to head to bed-- which I will now do, although unintentionally turning the thread into "Ask Dave a question" was certainly interesting and all.

Oook, my cheese question pales in comparison to asking David what he wears to bed at night. You sir, have won this awkward question round!

I seriously feel as if some people actively hunt the devs to get them to answer, setting up elaborate traps and carefully worded questions to set the bait, and then pounce the ever-living crap out of them when they take it. And when they have them, they throw up crazy noises and lights to make sure they can't get distracted and there is no escape.
Not that it really works, though.
