My system quick specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50Ghz
5.99GB mem
NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT/512MB

I was having trouble getting purchased DLC to appear in DA:O.  After using Redeemed's good FAQ (link), I distilled the issue down to the DAUpdater service (DAUpdaterSVC) not running.

When I tried to start the service manually, I recieved no error message, only the message "The DAUpdater service started and then stopped immediately.  This often happens when services have no work..."

I tried most of the steps in section 3.2 ot Redeemed's FAQ, I was still unable to get the service to start.  So I took the following steps.

1. Remove all my mods/overrides.
2. Use Steam to "Delete Local Content..." for DA:O and DA:O Awakenings
3. Delete all files and directories under C:\\ProgramData\\BioWare\\Dragon Age
4. Copy off and Delete all Dragon age files from my documents library (all files and directories under C:\\Users\\[me]\\Documents\\BioWare\\)
5. Reboot
6. Before installing, I checked the "Services Manager" to see if the DAUpdater service was completely removed
  (Start -> Computer -> right-click -> Manage -> Services - > "Dragon Age: Origins Updater")
it was not, therefore, since this was the root of my problem, I took some extra steps to ensure this was 'completely' gone before proceeding with re-install.
Incidentally, trying to start the service at this point returned (Error Code 2: Could not find file, which was expected, I had deleted all files)
7.  Manually remove the Updater Service entry
Having some experience with Windows for years, I know that service information lives in the registery, and the "sc.exe' tool that ships with Windows can be used to clean up remanants such as this.

  a. Open an Administrative command prompt (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> right-click Command Prompt -> Run as Administrator)
  b. type "sc delete DAUpdaterSVC"

This should then remove the registry information for the service.

8.  Reboot
9.  Use Steam to re-install DA:O

After DA:O re-installed, I saw that my problem was still present (still no DLC in any of the three columns in game), and via the Services Manager I notices that the re-install did not actually re-install the DAUpdater service.

10.  Try DAOriginsConfig.exe to see if that would install/start the service - it did not.

11. Use Section 3.2.3 of Redeemeds FAQ to manually install the service (the following instructions are duplicated in that FAQ)
  a. Open an Administrative command prompt (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> right-click Command Prompt -> Run as Administrator)
  b. Navigate to .NET FW 2.0 dir
    type "cd \\Windows\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework\\v2.0.50727"
  c. Use InstallUtil to manually install the DAUpdater service
    type "installutil "c:\\Program FIles (x86)\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age origins\\bin_ship\\daupdatersvc.service.exe""
  d. After confirming the installation succeeded (if you see "Rollback" in the output, then it did not), use net start to start the DA Updater service
     type "net start DAUpdaterSVC"

net start returned "The Dragon Age: Origins Updater service was started successfully."

12. Start DA:O and confirm that DLC is visible
I did see my purchased DLC was ready and available for download.  However, I choose to re-install Awakening before downloading my DLC (which is in progress now).  I will then try to restore my saved game data (which I copied off in step 4.) and hopefully things should work now.  I'll reply back with the results once all my DLC is downloaded and installed.

I have just finished installing Awakenings, and downloaded "Blood Dragon Armor", plus "Battledress of the Provocetuer (for Origins/Awakenings)" and all three are listed under Installed content with no "unauthorized' warnings. I take this as a good sign that all is well. I have "Leliana's Song" and "The Stone Prisioner" in the download queue now.

I followed the process, I even used thje /u switch to uninstall the old one after it failed to install the first time... but every time I try and install the service it keeps giving me the rollback message! Grrr, not sure what to do now...

I love you man, this fixed my problem. I've had it for ages and now it's working again.

I owe you big time. Thanks.
