It's not really a superstition, but when I level up my char and want to increase atk or def I always make sure I do a full point, adding to STR or DEX only as necessary to get a full point increase, and then checking to make sure there's not an extra half point hidden in the stats somewhere. That usually leaves a spare point to add to WIL or some other attribute.
The Hurlock blood thing is pretty much the only superstition that seems to make any difference to me. I still won't take blood from Genlocks or the Emissary by the bridge, or even Hurlock archers for that matter. Some games I won't take poison from the darkspawn, some games I won't take health poultices from them etc.
I play close to real time combat as much as possible during the game and fights just seem to be more successful more often by following my own inclinations, especially if I'm tired or not at 100% concentration, something about me being less prone to being distracted.
There's always a lot happening onscreen during a battle, and it's easy enough to let health get too low if avoiding the use of the pause button. Because I play DiD games I hate to see my guy die because it means a full restart from the beginning, and as much as I enjoy the origin stories, I would still rather see my warden make it through the game without a single fall. I've done it a few times on hard level, but I've always had to be careful and avoid getting distracted at a critical moment.
I'm 55 years old these days and my twitch skills were never much more than average to begin with, so my reflexes and concentration will use all the help they can get from whatever source, superstition or not.
When the warden has the conversation option: "There are many mysteries in the world" at Soldier's Peak, I thought it was the dev's sneaky way of informing us that there were undocumented choices in the game that could affect gameplay, so in the beginning I checked out everything I could.
I didn't have the toolset then, but now that I do I still prefer not to check the code except as necessary for my mod, just to keep a sense of mystery to the game. I'm still surprised occasionally by things that happen, even after months of playing.
