I already covered that issue in the opening statement.

Okay, well, as long as they don't look like the vampires from those Twilight books either.

I'm not.  Vampires when well done make for compelling villains or antiheroes.  I remember reading the original Dracula for the first time and having severe qualms about turning out the lights after I finished it.  They're supposed to be intelligent, ruthless, sexually charged, manipulative, and utterly amoral monsters.  Pretty cool ^_^  You could do worse than a decent vampire for a darker character.

Dracula was supposed to be all those things (though the sexual stuff was pretty subtle by today's standards in Stoker's novel).
The over-sexualization of vampires I think we can blame on Anne Rice, whose characters all seemed to be depraved orgy-goers, regardless of whether vampire or human.
Agreed about the rest. Modern vampires are altogether not monstrous enough anymore. Just people with fangs with amazing physical powers and who want to seduce people all the time. No green mist, no wolf shapes, no ancient evil.

Take an example from Brian Lumley, or Stoker himself, but please no supermodel, hot topic, tight leather, hair gel vampires.

Let's totally ignore the series that starts with "T" and ends with "iwlight" and let's focus on other series where vampires are hard core mother****ers.

David, Can Vampires happen (not in this game obviosuly, but in the future)? And if so, can you turn Loghain into one to partially bring me nostalgia from a dead series.

If there were vampires that were affected by the sunlight then the Deep Roads would be swarming of those.

yes, so if someone made a vampire virus, had them spread them to make uber troops, immune to the taint, with the unfortunate side effect of wanting blood, they are cast away, they hide in the darkroads in order to hide from the sun.....ever since they have been hiding in the shadows, and picking off a darkspawn should it draw near.

also, new type of darkspawn if this happens (female gets captures, turns into broodmothers, births blood feasting darkspawn)

Vampires are sexy, as long as they look like Desire Demon.

I'm vampired out. I'm a fan of classic vampires, LOVE Underworld, LOVE True Blood. I'm vampired out.

We do have werewolves and misc undead and demons so I guess if you put the right kind of demon into a zombie you'll get a vampire abomination? :)

I laughed so hard when I read that "misc undead," that's an epic phrase, I love it xD

I remember them saying there were no vampires in Thedas, but that was several years ago so things may changed since then.

I'm game, as long as any/all of these three examples are considered.

Vampires... living beings possessed by hunger demons. That could work in a twisted -- I don't just suck blood -- kind of way.

I think the Codex actually states this, that "vampire" legends are the result of rampages by Hunger Abominations.

If vampires crop up, I hope that's the way they are presented. No Twil--, sorry, I mean Anne Rice type brooding "woe is me" type emo bloodsuckers needed in DA! Posted Image

IIRC, it says that vampires are living beings possessed by demons of Hunger. Not that "vampires" are a myth inspired by such things. As far as I'm aware, you'd only get a Hunger Abomination if the demon possessed a mage.

I'm quietly confident that we'll be seeing the DA version of vampires in the second game, anyway. When Gaider posted that thread months ago about what kind of new enemies we'd like to face, vampires came up again and again and again.

Vampires are in, but they're not the slick, seductive and sexy variety so popular in movies and novels these days. Their behavior is much more reminiscent of a D&D ghast than anything Anne Rice ever wrote.

Right. We're talking about possession by a Hunger Demon, in that particular case.

An abomination of a hunger demon would be the Thedas version of vampire.
