BioWare's cutscenes are getting longer.  This isn't a surprise, and it's not  necessarily a bad thing.

However, there is often important information imparted during a cutscene (particularly from a roleplaying perspective - any little thing an NPC does might colour the PC's impression of him), so it's not really something we can afford to miss.

But life happens.  I can't wait until the end of a 90 second cutscene ti find out what that noise was my 2-year-old just made in the living room.  I can't wait until the end of a 90 second cutscene to answer the phone.  Or the door.  Or respond to a question from someone who just popped into the room to ask it because she needs the answer right now.

My point is, cutscenes can occur at inopportune times, and I might not even know it's an inopportune time until after the cutscene starts (and that assumes I can always tell when one is going to begin, which I can't).

So, I'd like the ability to pause them.  Just like every other pause in BioWare's non-ME titles, a simple pause toggle triggered by the spacebar would be brilliant.

If I could pause dialogue as well that would also be helpful.

Thanks for listening.

Yes! I agree entirely. At least with a dialogue scene you can simply leave the game on the dialogue. I believe with the 360 if you call up the Xbox menu it will freeze the game automatically which is appreciated, and I think the PC should have a similar feature.

I was about to say that I don't see the need for pausing dialogue, bu then I know you, so I could already hear you saying that missing even one sentence an NPC said would make it impossible for you to properly craft your PCs response.

Hear hear! I played NWN2 after playing Dragon Age, and I was pleasantly surprised I could shut Khelgar up if I needed to run to the loo.

A thing to sit and watch cut-scenes once you have completed the game like a DVD scene selection would also be nice. Very little games do this, youtube is ok but it's better watching in-engine as something to fart around with once you finish game.  Also might be more incentive to re-play, in order to unlock alternate versions due to players decision. This is a great idea, probably the best.

THIS. FOREVER.

The game could save the cutscenes with your particular save file so that character model always appears.

That would be nice as well... Guild Wars - Eye of the North does this. It's a good enough feature.

And I second the idea of a pause-option during cutscenes. Just think about the long section of the ME2-intro.... if something interrupts your gameplay right at this part you'll have to restart the whole game to watch it again, which maybe means to recreate a Shep you liked...

Playing devil's advocate here for a second, but wouldn't that ruin "immersion'?

I hear people complain all the time about loading screens, swapping disks, etc. Wouldn't this in effect be the exact same thing?

If it's an optional pause button, I can't see how. It'd be like complaining seeing the UI is immersion breaking. There's an option to turn that off.

This can't be!? The console version has a feature which causes pc jealousy?

I use the xbox blade to pause the cutsceens constatnly. I use the feature so not miss any current build/circumstance/choices that could be reflected in the scene, though there was often little change.

Actually quite a few console games do this.

Very few games on any platform have this.
Especially RPG's. Also, pc's are superior, for winners.

Yes excellent idea! Pretty much every Xbox 360 game lets you do this with the center button. Heh, what do you know, the console version finally one ups the PC!

Kinda a glass half empty/full argument. A few is a few is a few, though I can't recall any RPGs off hand, mainly shooters and a couple strategy games. While it would be a nice feature, I don't see it being to important, unless of course the cutscenes are incredible.

True enough, I just see so many odd "immersion" complaints, other than the ones I listed, which would lead me to think that even having the option would be immersion breaking to some people.

 pausable cutscenes wouldn't ruin immersion.

I suppose they could if you paused them for no reason, but I'm asking for them so they can used in situations where your immersion has already been ruined by a ringing phone or crying child.

Even if I have to Alt+Tab out of the game to get the cutscene to stop, that would be okay, but we need a way to pause them.

I support the pausing power of the spacebar and the skipping power of Esc.

Since English is my second language and slow reader, I'd like those "floating texts"/subtitles to be appearing a little longer on my screen than in DA:O.

Hear hear, wise Sylvius! Support the pausing power of the START button and the skipping power of the square on PS3 for DA2! (If I don't go PC for DA2)

IIRC, in the months before DA:O's release, there was a conclusion I remember seeing on the forum that immersion was essentially a meaningless complaint, as it is purely subjective without any consistent basis.  People can be immersed in whatever they allow themselves to be immersed in.  I still hold to that opinion.  I think pausable cutscenes are a great idea.

I also support pausing for cut scenes and dialogue scenes. Every time someone is telling me a story, my boyfriend asks me a question, wants to show me something on Youtube, or starts talking about something and then I have to go back and read it in the Script tracker.

A minor complaint I have about missing dialogue from Awakenings: please don't place a party banter trigger right next to another dialogue trigger. For example, in Amaranthine I triggered party banter, and then Anders after one sentence of the banter says "Why is there a pitchfork here?" and then no one else talked. It just cut into the banter and ended it. lol
