is it possible to make a race give penalties instead of bonuses to stats? like the old goodie -2 to CON from NWN

I've not tried what you're suggesting myself, but race attribute adjustments are located in RACE_base. You could try overriding that with your own version.

I'll check that out. maybe a bit useless if the game rules do not handle penalties but oh well.

You could always add the penalty using a race trait similar to the dwarf magic resistance.

true, but I'd rather alter the race itself. don't want to add several passive abilities to a character.
