You play as Liara for a portion of the mission.

Just a wild, wacky guess as to what the surprise may be:

Or maybe there will be a point where you need to split into two teams. So, you will send your two squadmates one way, while you team up with Liara and go the other. It would be somewhat like the Kasumi mission, where you have just one squaddie by your side.
God, that would be so kickass.

Bioware has said they don't plan on doing any more DLC that adds new squad mates. Nothing is set in stone and plans do change; but unfortunately I'd say the chances of Liara joing the ME2 crew are pretty slim.

I just want to say, thank god. If she had become a squaddie, she then could be killed off in the suicide mission and then would be unable to return/less likely to return in ME3.

Remember when they said that Legion wasn't a squadmate, either?
We know that they don't always tell us the things that are going to happen, either because they want to surprise us (and what a bigger surprise than something you've denied for months) or because things change.
If this actually takes place after the suicide mission (the trigger fires off only afterwards), then Liara could well be a new squadmate. ("when we said that there won't be new squadmates, we meant for the suicide mission, not for the ME 2.5 DLC that leads into ME3"...)
Of course, I personally think this is unlikely, but not impossible.

I know that Bioware has probably given up with Cerberus Network DLC, but I think that it would be really nice to all the fans if you made small weapon and equipment packs free.

Unless there is some huge time gap between the end of ME2 and beginning of ME3, it would make sense, if everyone used the same weapons. I can not imagine BioWare/EA trying to sell the same items for the second time and unless they want to make the DLC cross-game (which would be actually pretty cool), they should just put all those weapons into the main ME3 game (or better yet, free day zero ME3 DLC).Viper 029 wrote...
It also looks like Shepard has a new sniper rifle on his back. Bioware, I am willing to buy these DLCs for the extra guns, but please put some extra weapons in Mass Effect 3, and all my favorite gear in Mass Effect 2 is from DLC. (Arc Projector, Eviscerator Shotgun, Locust SMG, Incisor sniper rifle).
If they reintroduce weapon upgrade slots, they could easily sell those upgrades as DLCs, hmm.

This would allow for potential romantic plot continuence a la Yeoman Kelly...

Wouldn't it be entirely plausible that once her business is dealt with, Liara is injured and remains on the Normandy recuperating in the relatively empty medical bay while not actually being a playable character?

So............She's just going to lie down in the med bay the whole game?

This isn't bridging DLC. Bioware stated in that they're going to work on story bridging DLC as we get closer to the release of Mass 3. Mass 2 was just released 7 months ago. And no, Bioware never said Legion wasn't a squad mate. They didn't reveal much about him, but they never flat out said that "hey this guy isn't recruitable". They avoided questions to give people sort of a surprise when they played the game instead of being spoiled. I was quite shocked when he actually joined. For them to tell me that he's recruitable would have been a much boring experience. No surprises with spoilers.

I recall enigmatic statements meant to lead one to believe that Legion would not be a squadmate; but which never went to the point of full denial. Then they released some screenshots that made it look like Legion was hunting Shepard.
