Hmm, I completely forgot about Banes. It was interesting how he was just suddenly dropped from ME1 with the dialog still in. He actually still could be a major candidate.

A lot of people think this is actually who The Illusive Man is with relation to the theory that Cerberus is still working for the Alliance but the Alliance wishes to pretend it doesn't in order to protect it's own image. Banes was working for the Alliance and if I am not mistaken was given a top secret assignment, one that also related to Cerberus in the Kohaku missions. It was the Marines themselves who "mysteriously" disappeared. Those who believe this theory think that what actually happened was the Alliance gave Banes a top secret assignment in being the head of their black ops organization, Cerberus. However, they needed him to disappear to do it properly. Thus they had a group of marines find his body and either be killed to keep the secret silenced or had them all given assignments in Cerberus to keep them silent.

That's perfect cover if you ask me. Nobody digs too deep if they think you are deceased. Obviously he wouldn't keep the same identity as Banes.

But the Shadow Broker could once have been Banes. That's all I'm getting at.

That or the Shadow Broker is really some kind of advanced Artificial Intelligence.

Because if that was the case it would render those two quests useless, and there would be no need for them to be in game. I'm fairly certain that you'll have to do those two quests before that pops up. You won't even know she's trying to take down the Shadow Broker without talking to her about her problems, thus triggering the quests.

Most sidequests in ME2 have no direct story consequences, and feel very inconsequential. Why would it be any different with regards to Liara's two hacking sidequests in ME2? In addition, Liara can briefly recap or explain the nature of her hunt against the Shadow Broker at the start of the DLC. I fail to see why it is absolutely mandatory that Liara's two ME2 sidequests are completed prior to initiating this DLC.

ME2 was very good about "telling" which ones were big, though. Much moreso than ME1.

That's why you think it is TIM? Because his eyes are weird?

Because it depends on the outcome and events of this DLC. If this DLC has us directly confronting the Shadow Broker, as in finding out the identity of the Shadow Broker, then they would have to re-write Liara's dialogue for her ME2 missions or scrap them entirely, as they all imply or directly speek of the Shadow Broker and the hunting of him/her/it. After all, the Observer hunting mission is due to Liara wishing to weaken the Shadow Broker by taking out a top agent. If the Shadow Broker happens to die in her DLC, then she really doesn't need to do this.

I dont see it as a big deal anyway. Liara's ME2 missions can be completed one after the other rapidly without ever leaving Illium, so I doubt it would stand in anybody's way.

Because it would (probably) be pointless to leave them in the game after the dlc started. Why help track the shadow broker after you have raided his lair?

Make much more sense if the info you help collect leads into the dlc. It makes no sense doing it the other way round. The only option for doing this before those missions for liara is to disable the encounter, which would mean rebuilding a chunk of illium.

Well unless doing the DLC first stopped you from acquiring Liara's ME2 missions, you'd end up helping her get closer to the Shadow Broker - AFTER you've already taken him down.

That's why I reckon this DLC may have to be done after the storyline - if they're going to set it to only be available after a certain point during ME2, why not go the whole wa and set it to only trigger after the whole game.

Because at the moment, Shepard seems to be getting far too many distractions from the Collector issue.

Even simpler idea: this is the start of the pre-ME3 DLC.

Oh, well, I dont see that happening. Maybe, but I dont really see any point to re-writing and re-programming the rest of her dialogue and mission structure just to make the DLC mission available the moment you're on Illium, when it's likely much easier and cohesive to have it follow.

That's my take on it as well. This will be the first DLC that will serve as a bridge between ME2 and ME3. Besides, this way they can make Liara a crewmember after the DLC if they so wish.

Huh? All that is necessary is that a different scene triggers upon talking to Liara and intiating the DLC content, most likely post-suicide mission as most have speculated. It does not require large-scale changes to the game's encoding and programming to trigger a differing scene with Liara, and is no more complex than activating a new planet for mission use in a DLC, or even implemented dialogue for Kelly and Joker that refers to Kasumi.

Furthermore, there are two differing, legitimate outcomes for the Observer quest, with Nyxeris either dead or alive. How would that be explained with a uniform, single scene?

What? You're missing the point, and that is that simply having the DLC quest active after completing Liara's two ME2 is the easiest option. It requires no alteration to current dialogue or programming, not alteration to mission structure, and allows the quests to remain untouched on future playthroughs.

And I have no idea what your point about Nyxeris is. The objective of the Observer quest was to strike a blow against the Shadow Broker. It doesnt matter of Nyxeris is ratted out or not, what does matter is Liara's reasoning. She really doesn't need to hunt down Shadow Broker agents if the guy/gal/thing is dead.

They could do it either way, and it entirely depends on the nature of the DLC and how it ends, and that we do not know.

No, you're missing the point and misunderstanding what I am saying. What I am suggesting is that if Liara's DLC content is post-suicide mission, as most believe, then a different scene would be programmed in that would trigger if the player did not finish Liara's ME2 quests, or flubbed up the Observer sidequest which results in Nyxeris remaining alive. Liara's regular ME2 dialogue would trigger upon reuniting with her pre-suicide mission, and then it is up to the player's discretion as to whether they then complete her quests, successfully or not. If they choose to ignore them, then differing dialogue will have to be triggered upon starting the DLC. However, I happen to agree with you if it is not mandatory to complete the suicide mission before starting Liara's DLC, and it can be activated at any time.

My point about Nyxeris is that there are two differing outcomes to the Observer quest, that she is either dead or alive. This will have to be acknowledged and dealt with upon starting the Liara DLC, especially if she is alive as it would be likely that she would attempt to stop Liara if she became aware of the fact that she is close to finding her boss, which is extremely likely. Considering all of this, multiple scenes will have to be implemented into the start of the DLC to address the status of Nyxeris, and whether she has been killed or not. Again, this leaves the door open for the Liara DLC to be triggered regardless of whether the player has completed Liara's ME2 quests or not. Especially if the DLC is post suicide mission, as most believe.

They could do it either way, and it entirely depends on the nature of the DLC and how it ends, and that we do not know.

But we are discussing the start of the DLC...

Ah, now I understand your perspective. Well, I dont believe it will be a post-Suicide Mission quest, so that was where I was coming from, and that makes both our stances valid. If its post-Suicide Mission DLC then yeah, it will probably go your way. But I dont think it will be, hence my arguing that you will need to complete Liara's missions prior to Shadow Broker related DLC.
