Ah yes, threats...

Threats should be guarded against and when possible, eliminated.

The Turians: They took over Shanxi and they might attack us again.. attack!

An open attack would just invite interstellar war on a massive scale. Instead of that we can cope by maintaining a strong military that will deter them from trying to push us around.

The Salarians: They could make bio-weapons and use them against us... attack!

Once again, an open attack would merely invite a massive interstellar war. Instead the solution is to maintain an effective intelligence service that can sniff out any salarian plots against us. If the salarians can't act in secret to pre-empt us then we've drastically reduced the threat from them.

The Batarians: They're slavers and North Korea in space.... attack!

Once again, maintain a strong presence in the Skyillian Verge and Attican Traverse to deter them from taking any significant hostile action. Of-course with Udina running the Council we are more than capable, and willing, to pre-empt them whenever we see fit and they are hard-pressed to retaliate.

The Elcor: They can carry cannons on their backs... attack!

Maintain an update data network on the elcor so that should hostilites ever arise you know how to respond. An open attack is not necessary.

The Krogan: They are all violent! attack!

No, just destroy the genophage cure and ensure they spend the rest of their brutish existence killing each other.

The Volus: They're allied with the turians... attack!

Better yet, win them over to our side by showing that we are bigger, stronger, and more influential. This is what we're doing in ME2 if you followed the renegade path in ME1.

The Vorcha: enough said... attack!

Just wipe them out, I agree. Scum of the galaxy.

The Asari: they are seducing humans... attack!

Don't attack them in a shooting war, attack their economy and culture. We should encourage human and then galactic media to portray asari values and beliefs in a negative light. Show the galaxy how insidious their intrusive culture is and the negative effects it has on other species. Bring to light their method of dominating the galaxy and imply that everyone else is better off casting away asari influence.

Alien Sympathizers: They undermine Cerberus Human strength... attack!

Use the media to portray them as the seditious anti-humans that they are. They're dangerous and subversive elements. Destroy their credibility.

Shand, I may be wrong, but I don't think Sajuro was being... well... serious.

I think Sajuro was just saying that if you're paranoid enough, everything is a threat worthy of a hostile freakout attack.

Of-course not, he's freaking out at the prospect that it might not be wise to blindly trust everybody. He doesn't grasp how international relations really works. You want to maintain good relations when you can, but you must always be prepared incase diplomacy fails.

Of-course the turians and salarians and everyone else is a threat or obstacle in some fashion, but that doesn't mean we attack everybody outright. It means that we're always read in case we need to. We're always ready to defend ourselves.

Im Anti-Cerberus. Mainly because my latest character was heavily involved with the group and tried to cut it down at every chance he had. He sent the information to Alliance from the Cerberus Operative. And freed Micheal (Was that the guy in the geth communicator? or was that his brother?) He thoroughly hates TIM. But, while the reaper threat is imminent, I'm stuck with their crew, so Ill have to deal.

And what TIM means by the reapers and beyond is that it would be foolish to think that the reapers are the last or only threat to humanity out there.

Strike two Shand, I know you can't blindly trust people but with TIM could come up with reasons for all of the aliens to be wiped out since all you need to do is be a 'threat'. Simply put, you give Timmy an inch, he'll use that inch to subjugate aliens to 'defend humanity' and then the anti cerberus humans to 'defend humanity'.

Actually Shand is correct here in IR, every country smiles nicely, but has a fist behind their back waiting to slug the first person to step on there toes. No nation trusts any other nation, leading to the messes the world is in all over the place today.

Fear, and Security was an actual unit in Global Politics I took.

Not against hiding a knife in your coat pocket while you smile and shake peoples hands. Just against the vague term of 'threats' and Timmy using that term at all. Saying something is a threat to security is a fast and easy way to get the masses to shut up.

Sadly its because people fear the unknown and will do anything to be safe, thats just human nature.

TIM is either controlled and paranoid with fear about others, or is using to control Cereberus and others.

it's ridiculous to think that the universe will unite under a shining rainbow in a field of bunnies and unicorns

Why not?

For example, after 300 years of...

we have rainbows and bunnies now (...or the european union^_^)

Not saying you couldn't have rainbows and bunnies, just that it's ridiculous to think you'll have it just because the Reapers are gone.

Analogy.  If you have a room with 10 people and one of them is a lunatic with a gun the other 9 will gang up to kill the lunatic.  Afterwards the 9, rather than achieving rainbow status, will turn on one another fighting over the gun.  The best you can hope for is a few of the 9 banding together to keep the gun from the others using the threat of the gun to order them about.  Such is life, an endless cycle of lunatics being brought down so that they may be a stepping stone for the next lunatic.

Your fear of TIM, Cerberus, and maybe is making up your mind Sajuro.

People may not realize it but many people are controlled by fear in many choices.

My fear of TIM: yes, I am afraid of him but that's because he is power hungry. To TIM, Cerberus is Humanity, and TIM is Cerberus.

My fear of Cerberus: not so much, I just don't like them because they are a bunch of human dominance nutters.

My fear of Maybe: Maybe is good at the appropriate times. At other times, it is very troubling.
Good: Maybe I will come tonight, Maybe we'll get pizza
Bad: This elevator is perfectly safe... maybe, I won't use the collector's base to subjugate anyone who disagrees with me or isn't human... maybe.

This seems appropiate as to what it does in ME.

But anyway, I'm all for humanity's needs coming first, but Cerberus needs to calm down a bit.

Cerberus are foolish. I'm heavily renegade and as such don't mind their methods. I just don't like their agenda. I don't want a galactic human empire.

I like how they want to help with the Reapers. The freaky experiments? Not so much. But people who think they're significantly different from any government in the ME universe or our own world is kidding themselves.

Well stated, my friend.
